Hi Everyone!

I'm a Newbie Here trying to make a decision on speakers. I'm leaning toward etiher Peavey or JBL's but found "What appears to be" a good deal on Madision and Eminence speakers. I wondered if they are worth looking into?

I also found a neat site for rating speakers and amps... do you think this site is right on? If so, the Madison's are rated quite high.... the site is:
http://quadrasub.netfirms.com/compare.htm

Here are the sets I'm considering....(found them on ebay)
Eminence (item number 3714318529)
Madision (item number 3713765609)

If they are not worth pursuing I go w/the known names for quality.

Thanks for your help..
Heather

I remember reading some comments regarding the Madison speaker line sometime ago. If I remember correctly, they did not compare favorably with the more established name brands. I have never heard them, but firnd it difficult to believe that they sound and perform better than the Mackie SRM450s. On paper the specs look impressive, but the bottom line is how they sound. You cannot audition them via the internet.

Also, the reviews or recommendations site in your post is directly linked to the sellers site. Hence, I would factor that into lending credence to the validity of the ratings. They are not customer ratings or objective unbiased ratings from a recognized expert, etc.

Read through the various posts in these forums. There are many pros here that give good advice. Everyone has personal preferences, but you will notice a trend advising to stick with quality tried and true equipment. Also note that the Madison speaker listed above is constructed of MDF. That extra weight is significant when you start setting up, breaking down and moving your gear.

Maybe someone on this forum has experience with these speakers and can give you an objective review. They actually may be a good buy, but you usually get what you pay for in pro audio.

Good Luck

Eminence are great speakers although they do have their cheap line as well (as any manufacturer does) - which the drivers loaded in that auction are in the cheaper design line - mainly power handling & bass response will be the main sacrifice.
They are generally sold as raw drivers - meaning no cabinets. Their website has a cabinet design program that will help you build your own custom cabinets & help recommend what speakers will work best together for certain applications if you want to build custom speakers. You can find them at several different music stores throughout the country.

A handful of speaker manufacturers do use some Eminence drivers in some of their own lines - Ampeg, Carvin, Fender, Hartke, Peavey, Marshall, Roland, Yamaha and Yorkville.

Madison speakers aren't that great. They are mostly sold through E-bay and a handful of dealers - most of them being in Colorado. Even on E-bay they aren't too sought after if you look at the bids - there aren't too many bids if any at all.

Heather...

In very few words... "I would take an Eminence Speaker over an Madison Any day of the week" I was quoted last year in a music store in Nashville, TN, after Distorting one in a demo. There it is. :D

I bought a Madison speaker once and it sucked. I had to return it. I have 2 yamaha club IV 15inch speakers. I got them for $220 each (new at local store). They are great for the money and to me sound better than my jbl 15P eon. I also bought a pair of speakers for someone else on ebay. They were called - bullfrogs, (use eminence) We got 12 inch models and paid a little over $100 each. They sound very good also.
