I just became a member and have submitted two songs. I like this site very much BUT... I am already discouraged from giving anyone a rating on their songs let alone an honest rating. I am a KJ by profession, have been singing since the third grade. I know it is very important to encourage all of my singers when doing a show. I figured that this forum allowed for a more honest revelation of how a singer performs being as it is not a live situation and this could actually help a singer to improve and keep on trying to improve their particualr style. Well after giving my first honest evaluation to a singer on this site ( which wasn't mean nor even "Simon Cowell" like- I even encouraged him at the end of my comment) This individual obviously didn't like the rating I gave so he automatically sabotaged my first submission in more than one way.... And after researching the site I find that this same individual will seek out the one that rated him (if it's a rating he does not care for) and give the same rating or lower no matter how good or bad the song is. I mean come on folks, we all have trained ears to some degree in this forum and one can tell when a song deserving of a higher rating gets slammed by someone out of spite simply because he got a rating he didn't like. This indvidual makes it obvious that it was spiteful by using the same phrases in his comments when rating your song. I hate to say it, but I am not surprised actually that this goes on here. After being a KJ for years I have encountered many individuals who have less than a high degree of maturity when "constructively" criticized in any fashion. This behavior is so "Karaokeish"!
Sorry if I sound like I'm ranting.... this was on my mind and had to get it off and frankly if it continues, I've got much better things to do with my time than put up with something as childish as this guy obviously is. I joined this forum with expectaions of having fun with people who enjoy singing and right off the bat I'm at odds with someone. If I had it to do all over again I wouldn't have rated this guy at all.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, BJ. Besides, comments and not ratings should be the important part of the critique. I really think there should be an option for allowing people to leave comments without ranking it.

Thanks for the response singingfool, I'm glad I didn't sound like a whining idiot to at least one person.

You don't sound like a whining idiot at all! I know exactly what you mean BJ, it's something that has been happening on another site for quite some time and it's just sad. But very common! That's why it's not a good idea to get too attached to the rating. I know that's hard! Like Singingfool mentioned, it would be nice to have the option NOT to be rated! Otherwise, if someone just plain wants to get you, they will! Most people are honest and they want to be fair, but some people get SO upset with a score they feel is not deserved ..... it's war! This then leads to a backlash of people being afraid to give a low score to another for fear of retaliation! It's a very common thing and I don't think we will solve it here. Unless there was an objective panel of judges that only rated submission and didn't submit songs themselves ... ratings would not only be more consistent, but more objective as well ... but that is a job somebody needs to get paid for ... and that's probably not gonna happen here ... so consider the source! Human nature can get ugly sometimes! But when we put ourselves out there, it's always a risk! It would be nice if the Webmaster could monitor that kind of thing, but his plate seems pretty full already! As it is, anybody can register under an alias and revenge~rate on the same day. It's not fair but it happens all the time!

I apprecitate the input. I think if you study the comments and the ratings it's easy to see just who we are talking about. I've decided that I just will pretend like they don't exist here and hope they'll do the same for me.

Hey All ~
I am working on trying to implement a few new features.
ADDED FEATURES:
1) A member has to have submitted a song prior to being able to rank or comment.
2) Create a cookie, so a member can remain logged in?
3) Allow members to leave a comment only without a rank? Also, allow the submitter to decide if they wish to have a submission ranked. (This will have to be configured so that comment only entries are not calculated into the average.)
ITEMS TO FIX:
----------------------------------
#1 - MEMBER - submits a song but the name is not displayed.
#2 - MEMBER names not displaying. I have to manually insert the name.
#3 - Submissions being overwritten. When someone submits a new song for some reason it causes the next submission to overwrite the previous entries.
#4 - Members should be able to modify (edit) their submissions. Sometimes they incorrectly spell something or wish to change the information.
#5 - Members should be able to modify the rank that they had given. On many occasions they incorrectly enter a 5 (the default) and have asked me to go in and change this for them.
----------------------------------
We are working on these if anyone can contribute additional ideas I am always interested in hearing them!
Thanx & Enjoy
Phill

I think it would be great to add a "Search" feature to look for songs. That way if someone wants to hear a particular song, they could find it . Or also if they want to search for a name of someone, they could find their songs quickly.
