It has been 1 year for me doing karaoke now. If I counted correctly it has been 60 shows in 7 different venues (only 2 venues are regular shows, others were special events)

Stats may be off a bit due to restarts of songs that may have gotten recounted (about 1 a show average)

 Total songs sung:3565
Average songs per show 59 (shows were between 3 and 8 hours, most about 3)

 Total unique songs:1305
 Different performers :810
(estimate as some performers have changed their name that they sign up under on different nights and some common names are different people, and duets are included in the list)

Seven venues and David Bowie being the most sung artist is a very unusual stat. No B52s in Athens (their home town), not even "Love Shack," is also a very unusual stat.

I'm not familiar with "Common People" either. Love this forum... getting an education here.

B52s got sung just not enough to make the list...

 4 times for Rock lobster,
 3 times Love shack
 2 times for private idaho...

The B52s (Fred and Cindy) did sing karaoke at the main bar where I do karaoke now 3 weeks in a row a couple months before I started, but they mainly live in NY now.

REM may get less play than otherwise because a lot of people don't sing their songs when members are at the show (but they don't sing).....

Wow, about 15 of your top songs get sung on occasion to regular in my club. NEVER or very rare is to hear any Dean Martin or the standards like that, unless it's an old school karaoke singer.

nearly all of my singers are in their 20s-30s (and a few gezers in their low 40s like me)

Most of the old stuff is actually sung by a few people far to young to have heard it when it came out.

So your most sung song of all, "You're Nobody 'Till Somebody Loves You, " sung by singers under 40? Wow. That would be really extraordinary.

The only Dean Martin song I've ever had sung by this age group is "That's Amore" which I believe was in a comedy. That's how they knew the song at all.

Must be a coastal thing, huh Bill? I wondered how these kids knew That's Amore. Fascinating to me the titles on the above list and how different our most commonly sung songs are.

Yeah Karen I think it was "Mystic Pizza" (the "big pizza pie" connection) but that's off the top of my head without googling it. Anyone?

And I can only recall one Bowie song done in my room at all this year. "China Girl" I believe. I remember it because it stuck out. And my group is mostly young like Dr. Fred's. But Bowie (one would think) would also be sung mostly by people over 40.

 And Dean Martin by seniors!

Interesting list. It is neat to see the differences from what I'm used to.

Hmmm...the only song on that list I have actually sung is "These Boots Were Made for Walkin'", including once for live band karaoke. Some of the others, I've heard people sing but haven't done 'em myself.

I've sung the B-52's song "Roam", and one kj said I was the first person she had heard sing it for karaoke. (I love when that happens!)

By coincidence Laura I had a gal sing "Roam" last Saturday. And yeah it practically never gets done.

A refreshing break from "Love Shack." For the room and for me. Put a smile on my face too.

As for Dr. Fred's list, if you take out all the Bowie, Dean Martin, Harry Belafonte, Pulp, Smiths, and REM it looks somewhat like things that get sung at least a little in my place.

Edit: But since we have the same age group, the most surprising thing to me about this list is what's missing.... RHCP, Sublime, Morrisette, Etheridge, No Doubt, Godsmack, Pink... none of the the staples of my room are in the list at all. And that's not even getting into the country stuff... Big&Rich, Miranda Lambert, Gretchen Wilson, etc. A big difference between an East Coast college town and a blue-collar Pacific Northwest one I suppose.

Just be cautious that I am pretty sure that only 10 or less of my top 50 songs are popular at another karaoke gig that I used to regularly frequent as a singer, and half may never have been sung there.
