I don't think the "no golden handshakes to CEOs" policy goes far enough. Let's see.... in effect it is the taxpayer who is having to bail out these companies because of the CEOs' greed.

Wouldn't it only be fair that the CEOs' salaries should be reduced to the average income of US citizens until all of the bail-out money, plus interest has been paid back?

Actually I wouldn't have a real problem with those CEO's golden parachutes if they worked in reverse as well. Their compensation should go back to the way it used to be - their compensation would be tied directly to their actual performance and the long term viability and profitability of their companies. If they make their shareholders a ton of money honestly then their pay would be dispensed in cash and stock over a period of time to ensure that the companies profits are indeed real and can be sustained over a set period of time.

If the company loses money then the CEO doesn't get paid more than their typical managers get paid and they get fired. Executives level of compensation needs to be put back in stockholders hands and taken away from the select few on the Bod who are more interested in lining their own pockets over their stockholders.

I was wondering if this would come up here?

I was reading how we are supposed to make sure the banks we're using are covered by FDIC. I thought all banks by law had to have it. This is news to me.

Then it said we should have all (all?) our money in investments with the goverment to be safe. Treasury bonds etc...

This is a scary thought. Are we really in that bad of shape? Do we have to worry about our savings in our neighborhood banks? What a mess we're in !

The mess has always been there Babs, it's just been brought to the forefront with all this latest hubbub about government bailing out companies in the private sector. Why now? Because the "powers that be" have decided if our government doesn't bail out AIG it will cause a downfall in the WORLD economy. Huh????

Oh yeah, I dunno if you guys have noticed in your parts of the world but all those wunnerful lil AIG commercials are still playing allllllll over the airwaves in prime time slots in markets all across the country. Nice huh :headscratch:

I'm taking a chunk of my cash out of my savings at the bank and storing it in "my mattress" so to speak. Well, not actually in or under my mattress but in a secure place that's NOT in the bank. With at least 120 banks in danger of folding and thus creating an environment that could start a nation wide run on banks I don't want to be left stuck out like Chuck. Our national economy is in danger and I want to try and be prepared as well as I can. Everyone else will do what they think is best for themselves as well.

This is even more interesting:

Are your bank accounts insured by FDIC

I'm already ahead in that category. I have 2 1/2 acres in east Texas and have had my garden in the past, last one was 110' x 80'. I'll have it again, bigger this next time though, in the coming spring and I'm going to get myself some livestock to raise for the eggs and for the dinner table as well before it's too late. Oh, and I'm increasing the size of my ammuntion supply to help maintain order on my food supply if and when the crap finally hits the fan. I saw hard times coming Americas way about 6-7 years ago and sold my place in the city and moved to the country just for this purpose. If others are smart they would do likewise.

You're not related to that Charmin woman are ya?

Heyyy......... What's that mean? Are you purposely trying to earn a spank?

You know what's too funny? I was reading this thread and when I read the post by NewSinger I was already prepared to comment back that I thought he was on the right track. I thought, there's a guy who will end up being ok when living in the US turns ugly. (also thinking to myself... hmm, wonder if he needs a wife who can help till those acres and is a pretty good shot with a 20 gauge? whom also is a good fry cook and can keep him snugly warm under those bear blankets all winter) Now.... I can't say anything of the sort, cause you've went and embarassed me.

Seriously tho, yeah.... people need to start preparing to fend for themselves, and defend themselves if need be. Our government are a bunch of freakin' idgets, if you don't mind my saying so.

And the Rednecks will inherit the earth!!!

lol .... You may just be right, if things keep going the way they are and it turns into a "survival of the fittest" scenario.

Too bad the FDIC won't release that other list, the one that has those 120 banks on it and they are watching closely and fear are on the brink of collapse.

Oh geez BlueStainedShoes, look at what you went and done. You're making me blush all over and turn a shade of red. I ain't had a nice looking female make such a fuss over me since my sister-n-laws dog took a liking to me way back when.

That's okay, go right ahead where you left off. That doesn't happen that often much anymore to this old cuss except for a couple of my Karaoke singing lady friends  who have designs on me at times I believe. I can't convince them that I've been fairly content to play the field since I was paroled from my first or last marriage, which ever way a person wants to look at it, some 17 or 18 years ago.

If you have funds in an FDIC insured bank that fails, your funds are transferred to another bank. You still have normal access to your funds.

I can process any animal with a pocket knife. Clean a pheasant, rabbit or duck with my bare hands. Although I do like band saws for beef or pork I could do it with a chain saw too.

Well ... in that case, might as well give my $425 to Babs & CatsEyeView to split. They were kind enough to donate some points for my bling... so it's the least I can do.

Charm, you're so cool, but you really need some younger guys to flirt with! :) No offense to you great older guys, but Charm, at 40 you're way cute! Jeremy thinks so too. You deserve a boy toy or two! LOL

If us old geezers can't flirt we might as well roll over and die..

And I wouldn't want to compete with one of Char's boy toys that she keeps under her bed. I'd prefer to be thought of as a bottle of fine wine, thats brought out for a special occasion when only the best will do !
