I have actually sang this song at karaoke a few times. This post is by no means to detract from the original meaning just a little humor. When this song was written we didnt have the problems we have today. It is Streets Of Laredo and here are the first segment of lyrics.

Quote:
As I walked out on the streets of Laredo.
As I walked out on Laredo one day,
I spied a poor cowboy wrapped in white linen,
Wrapped in white linen as cold as the clay.

"I can see by your outfit that you are a cowboy."
These words he did say as I boldly walked by.
" Come an' sit down beside me an' hear my sad story.
" I'm shot in the breast an' I know I must die."

"It was once in the saddle, I used to go dashing.
" Once in the saddle, I used to go gay.
" First to the card-house and then down to Rose's.
" But I'm shot in the breast and I'm dying today."

A problem is an obstacle which makes it difficult to achieve a desired goal, objective or purpose. It refers to a situation, condition, or issue that is yet unresolved. In a broad sense, a problem exists when an individual becomes aware of a significant difference between what actually is and what is desired.

What I meant was, what problems and how do they relate to the song in question?

They don't relate. The song represents a time when this nation and it's citizens were self-sufficient. A time when people governed, could err but the government had strict standards, now the government is in control, can err and bankrupt this country over and over and pass laws yearly to take away our rights. Now citizens must live to their standards or they will take their babies away. We have the biggest prison population ratio in the world. The sad part about it is the last few generations think it is normal and right.

[font=Verdana] I was singing “When Johnny Comes Marching Home to my grandkids one time, when I sang the part,
The men will cheer
The boys will shout
The ladies they will all turn out
And we’ll all be gay
When Johnny comes marching home.

You should have seen their little jaws drop, and heard the snickers.

I agree with you totally, Ollie. We need a president that will lead in the direction of restoring the morals and values of the society that used to be. When babies weren’t murdered in the womb. When the raising of a child was the parents responsibility, not the governments. When you failed at something, it wasn’t glossed over, ie sports, education, etc. The next time you buckled down and tried harder. When children used their imagination to create fun things to do, not sat and played video games or computer games all day.

I was amazed last Thursday when after a couple of hours of swimming I took my 3 grandchildren back to their house, their Mom was still at work and wouldn’t be home for a couple of hours. They were devastated because I wouldn’t let them sit in front of the computer for the rest of the afternoon. Especially the 8 yr old, she had one heck of a tantrum. Flat told me I was crazy and she didn’t have any imagination, Yes, I informed her that, that wasn’t the way you spoke to your Grandma.

The thought that we might get a liberal president to back up our liberal congress really worries me. I am so fed up with this anything goes mentality. Young people today have no respect for rules or anything else. Not to say there aren’t some good kids out there, but the majority of them need a come-uppance!! They haven’t been taught right from wrong, to respect other people, or any responsibility.

It seems like we think a lot alike, Ollie……….maybe we should meet in the middle? LOL

I'm not going to use this thread as a soapbox, but I will say that there is a different way of thinking these days, and it often flies completely in the face of everything from the post above. To discard it as "not respecting morals" and the like is a true disservice to those with a mindset not completely like your own. It strikes a very serious chord when people hear things like the above. Contrary to popular belief, not all liberals are pro-abortion, not all liberals are pro-government, and most decidedly, not all liberals are "anything goes." Maybe if some of the conservatives took a minute away from watching Hannity and Colmes to investigate, they might see there's a whole different side to this "liberal presidential candidate" they so despise...

But maybe that's a different thread.

My point above was thus: if this thread was meant as a diss against gays, then we have problems.

For the record, me = NOT gay.

My grandfather on Dad's side was born in Mexico Mo in 1864. As a tot I learned the true history of slavery and what the emancipation meant to many. History has been warped many times over for political or selfish purposes.

His childhood buddy was a boy whose parents were emancipated. His name was Jasper. He died in 1964 and his dying words were Jasper Jasper where are you.....

You think the last 50 years have changed? Try 150....

They did not have this mania with sex or wars between the sexes and each has some role to play..They sure as well wasnt concerned what others were doing in their bed room. And this nation and congress was so drastically split down the middle with radical ME ME ME and to hell with everybody else views. The private sector solved problems not millionaire lawyers.

If you did not see the humor in the original post without having to analyze whether you were insulted or not then you are a candidate for the funny farm. Loosen up for gods sake.

I didn't see the humor because the way it's written, I had no idea it was a joke. Now that I know, I guess I just don't get it. People tend to use "Brokeback" as a gay insult, so I was merely wondering what the intent of the post was. After the last post, I'm still not sure, so I suppose I'll chalk it up to miscommunication and let it ride.
