Okay, I do have a bunch of the mediacloq Sound Choice discs - anyone know from experience (I think Lonman, you may have mentioned this in a previous thread) - do I have to return these to Sound Choice and get replacements without the 'computer block' on them? I have five that won't record - one is the George Strait comp (8703) and of the 5, it's the one that gets used - I may not even have EVER played the other 4 at all...in any case, since they're in my book, I should have the songs available (SC 8703, 8711, 8745, 8751, and 8764) - interestingly, they're all the yellow and black as opposed to blue and red in color - must be the blocked ones.

Such a pain!  BTW, over 11,000 songs back in the MTU library, as I was able to recover over 10,000 of the songs.  Had to re-record all the Pioneers and now All Hits (have all of those)... Strange what disappeared and what didn't.

Well it isn't just Hoster, but most programs won't read the medicloq cdg even some dvd players had problems with them - which is why it was done in so limited numbers.  
The ONLY way I was able to get them to even enter is using Tricerasoft CDG Ripper and a FULLY CDG compatible Plextor drive.  It would not work with any of my other drives that work with Hoster/Microstudio or anything else I tried.  It also took almost 1 hour PER track to input to a bin file.  But once it did, the tracks were then converted to Hoster & played beautifully.
You CAN send them (the discs) back to Sound Choice - provided they still have the discs available, I believe it's going to cost you the shipping per disc.

Thanks. I do have a brand new fully CDG compatible external drive...>Will download Tricerasoft s/w and see if I can get them to convert with that. It's a lot of songs to lose if I can't figure it out.

So you were able to retrieve almost all of your disks? Bravo. Me on the other hand got back 50 0f 5000!!!! Yeah for me!!!! I've spent the whole week playing and singing my 50 songs and wondering if I should do a show with my hoster and 50 songs. ...

BUMMER! Sorry that you weren't able to get back more of them. I'm actually working on the big check now to see what is and isn't there....Ironically "sets" disappeared - i.e., All Hits and Monster Hits required reloading. All Pioneers had to be reloaded too. But almost all the Star Discs were there, as all the custom ones I had put in (about 35 or 40 CDGs) ... so I'm probably up to almost 13,000 in of the 14,980 songs.

A show with 50 songs? I guess it depends what the songs are!

I successfully ripped 8700, 8739, 8743, and 8746 with Power CD+G just last week. And it went at the same speed as the others. But I purchased these discs all last year. Did Soundchoice take mediacloq off them recently? Or is it the program?

Just joking sweetie I still have my Vocopro jukebox with 20,000 Sound Choice selections. BUT STILL I am very upset with what went down. I know ,I know first time in 40 years anything like this has happened and we have it all fixed. It still doesnt ease the pain and hurt.......

It has to be cdg compatible with other programs as well like CDRwin & Tricerasoft CDG ripper - if not it won't work at all.  I have several drives that are compatible with Hoster & Microstudio that are not compatible with anything else.  Make sure before buying anything else.

You should get some play on "Amie" off the SC8751 disk, but you probably have another version you use (it is on Pioneer/Supercore, I know).

The 8711, 8745. and 8764 disks wouldn't be worth it to buy today, at all. I think out of all those songs I have only ever seen "Where I Come From", "Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde"  and "Mendocino County Line" done, all about once. Of course it may be because the places I go don't have those, but I doubt it.

8703 is one of the 25 or so SC disks I have, and for me it gets lots of play.

Precisely - I went through all the discs that wouldn't upload - may just drop them because other than the G. Strait one, the rest are duds anyway. I'm not sure why I even BOUGHT THEM! Will make up the difference with customs instead of messing with these. Will keep them in my case, if someone HAS to sing off them I can play it with the player. As I am continuing to rip the ones I couldn't salvage, I am seeing SOOOOO many songs that have NEVER been sung...argggg....

Here is the solution I came up for Sound Choice's mediacloq protection on their discs (including their custom discs)

You need a Plextor CD or DVD drive that's CDG compatible and a copy of Plextools, the software that normally comes with a Plextor drive.

Before running any karaoke programs, start Plextools and check the setting for "Single Session" mode.

Now when you run your karaoke programs/rippers/etc, you should have no problems accessing the karaoke tracks on the CDG disc.

The MC copy protection was taken out of their lines for some time now, probably about 4-5 years now.  Any of those discs bought today wouldn't have it.  Plus it only went up to 8735 & a handful of 8200 series before they stopped.

I think if you look up MediaCloq you'll find that it's nothing more than a multi session disc with a malformed TOC.
That's why these discs play in stand alone CDG players but not CD-ROM drives.  
CDG players only recognize the first session, but CD-ROM drives get confused when they try to intepret the malformed TOC.
By using Plextools to force the drive to only see the first session, it gets around the MediaCloq.

I don't know if anybody has told you this, and you probably already know this, but buying an external hard drive for 60 bucks and backing up your music is well worth it and really easy!  I have mine backed up TWICE.  sweet.

I learned this from the previous KJ who had his hard drive stolen. The cost of a extra hard drive is tiny compared to the time it takes to rip a few hundred CDs. He had to stop doing his show for about a month before he had them all re-ripped, and he almost quit being a Kj until we begged him.

Now I have nearly everything backed up. Thanks for reminding me I have to backup recent purchases. Sure it takes a bigger than a $60 drive for me but not too much more. And that drive never leaves home.

Remember also hard drives do fail. I had my work hard drive fail a couple of years ago and it ended up costing the work a couple thousand dollars to recover 99% of the files. Considering the karaoke hard-drive actually sees a lot of activity, (near constant use 3-4 hours during the show) and that is more than a lot of normal computer use where it is mainly inactive for a lot of the time.

When my back up drive fails USB I get panic attacks I recently got a hard drive for the laptop large enough to hold all. The laptop is my backup computer for shows. Not having to use a usb hard drive is convenient and a relief of sorts. Depending upon the age and use of a hard drive esp USB back up a third time. I have spent thousands for my library and if I had to rip again I would quit.
