Its all fun and such, but I like messing with the song to trot out something different for people. I have the worst voice and don't know squat about which key or being in tune, but I put me heart into it and people love it.
People who sing a song letter perfect are a dime a dozen, and bad singers are a penny a dozen. I'm bad in a rough hewn way that adds some grit to the songs and people like that. Its fun seeing people react to songs they don't know or aren't used to hearing the way I do them.
And its just fun to sing along to music, regardless of being in a bar or at home.

So... for those of you who sing solely for your own pleasure, unconcerned with any ego gratification derived from an audience responding to your efforts...
How many of you break out your rig once, twice or more times a week to sing by and to yourself at home?

One need not be a great singer to sing Karaoke, but what you do is just not right.
It amazes me that someone is proud of the fact that they sing horribly. You are the kind of singer that ruins Karaoke. Your type of singer is torture to many people. Stop singing in public!
You probably fart in elevators too.

When myself and my wife were first dating, we used to sing bar Karaoke 3-4 times a week, and always had an amazing time.
Whilst I'm a 'so-so' singer, my wife has always struggled, but really appreciated the encouragement she got from all of the friendly punters.
Sadly, four years ago, she began to suffer from a Neurological condition, and is now a wheelchair user. Naturally, due to our concern about her condition deteriorating, we didn't continue to go out on evenings, as we had...and once she became unable to walk, we found that actually finding a bar with both Karaoke and disabled access nigh-on impossible :(
We were reminiscing, a few months back, about how much we missed those days - not the bar and the booze, as much as the Karaoke!
So, I rolled up my sleeves and sorted out a decent amp, mixer and player, and brought the bar to our living room (god only knows what the neighbours must think though - the speakers on only 150 Watt, but they seem much louder :drunk: !)
We both now sing at home 4-5 nights a week, and have a blast :hi5:
Cheers for now!
Rob

A buddy of mine is like what you were talking about... he sings horribly on purpose just to get a reaction from the crowd. That's why I told him I'd NEVER invite him to any show I hosted once I relocated back here. He thinks it's funny. I have more RESPECT for karaoke in general.
I told him... "Dude, that's like me coming to your job and disrespecting what you do there. I get PAID to put on the best show I can, and here you are ruining it for most everyone. YES some people think it's funny. But most of them are laughing at what a moron you are, and can't WAIT for you to get off the microphone. And worse yet, when you get up to sing next, they'll be the FIRST ones out the door to get a cigarette break, even if they don't smoke. And worse YET... they'll find another venue to go to so they don't have to be subjected to that crap!"
Dude, just relax. It's only karaoke!
I said, "Jeff, that's the opinon of someone that doesn't have $40K invested in their 'hobby'! I do."

Thanks Vikki - very kind of you to say :D
Of course, we don't get quite the same atmosphere at home, but when we have friends over, it's pretty darn close; and as a positive upshot, Fiona's singing is improving in leaps and bounds since we got the home setup (sometimes, she used to make me wince a little (but it never stopped her from getting up in front of strangers and giving it her best shot)!

I sing at home when I am not able to get out to the karaoke bar. Singing is my way to relax and unwind. I sometimes break out the karaoke machine after coming home from the bar when the rotation has been so big I've only been able to sing a couple of songs and feel like I still want to sing some more. Of course this usually means I break open a bottle of wine...like I haven't had enough already:)))))
