I also use a Plexor drive.  After playing around with a bunch I just ordered it and it worked.  But I dont use it live while performing.  The music is loaded up on the computer and I have a backup just in case.  As far as the software.... I have a few that I have been trying.  I have to say that the best HANDS DOWN so far has been pretty much free.  WinAmp.  Now I'm not a KJ mind you.  I'm a singer who is using karaoke as a background.  Bearing that in mind, Winamp is incredible and very easy compared to some of the other programs out there.  Get the free WinAmp then you I think have to pay a few bucks for the karaoke plugin.  There are a few plugins I use.  Pacer is one thats good (slows down or speeds up songs).... there are a bunch of real good plugins for Karaoke.

Just rip the cdg while a different singer is singing and wa-la it's in your hardrive then you can import it into your Karaoke Hosting software and have the song for the singer with the disc!!  Make em' happy...!!!!
