So we were doing a birthday party Sat night & loaded everything up in the back of the Explorer that am to be ready. Well my daughter had to be picked up from a friends house & my hubby went to get her, had to stop suddenly when a dog came out in front of the truck & long story short when we get to the show our mixer doesnt work in gets an input signal but nothing comes out. Thank God we had an older mixer for back up & the show was 15 min from home I mean we did a wedding like 100 miles from home last month at least it wasnt that show ! We bought the warrenty thank goodness & so we have to rent a mixer for our weekly shows till we get it fixed. What a bummer.

just curious , what kind of mixer?Ive always worried that most powered mixers do not have any kind of cover to protect the face from a hit.(another reason im tempted by the soundcraft gig rac) I have mounted my mackie in a rack case turned on its side to protect it from these things. Ive still got an issue with one of the input chanels eergh. ill be having to rent one soon also while this one is out..mabey the wife wouldnt notice if i bought a third one as a spare? some times you can find a plastic case that closley fits your mixer in the tool dept of your Megalowmart or home cheepo type store. a bit of egg crate foam (bed padding) and you can make a case that protects your investment. also nice cases look more professional when you walk in. it also helps with your "tune" time as none of your knobs and buttons get screwed up.

I have bought cases for mine. "Worldtour" makes generic cases that fit most powered mixers. They are soft-sided but padded, and will protect the mixer against most abuse.

i like a hard case due to the fact that this stuff gets bounced around and stacked 3 to 4 times a week. Its ALWAYS in the back of my van.

This is why I recommend that everyone in this business take at LEAST a basic electronics course. Chances are it's a single torn wire due to the ![lol lol](./images/smilies/emot-LOL.gif) t or a similar 5 minute fix, for which you have to wait and overpay....Even a Heathkit type home course would cover it.......This course will also educate you for the buying of equipment- freeing you from loverpaying for a label that may or may not be worth it.

If I did that, I would like a hard case. I don't keep mine in a van, so I don't need that.
But there is no doubt that a soft case is better than none, and that it is 1/4 the cost of a hard case. At $35, there is no excuse for not having at least that much.

So we called the warrenty Company & they sent us to a man about 30 miles from us that does business in a little room in his house...weird ! Not really what I would have pictured as a place to get warrenty work done, I mean this house is in the middle of a chicken farm. It stunk soo bad ! Im a country gal but chicken pooh ?! Ugh ! Anyways he seemed like a real nice man was about 65 or so. Hopefully it'll be done right. We dont usually buy warrentys but I guess if he fixes it & we dont owe anything its worth it,huh?!

You might be surprised at the quality of work the guy does. I took my fender amp to a repairman some time ago. This guy had a small shop in a really dumpy part of town. His shop was nasty, more like a junk dealer than anything. He was really old and pretty crippled up. He took a look at my amp and told me I could pick it up in a couple of days. This old guy did not just replace a speaker in the amp, he re-coned the speaker. It sounds as good as new. I found out that this guy has an incredible reputation as a repairman. I can tell you if I need anything repaired from now on, I am taking my business to his small, dumpy, dirty little shop in the bad part of town! This guy really knows his business! Maybe you will have the same luck I have had with your repairman. --Mike

You folks are talking about me 'cept I dont live in the country anymore but a high rise. I have been in electronics since '55.
As a kid we took an old TRF short wave radio to an old man who lived in a cabin with dirt floors. I dont remember his skills as much as the hospitality from his wife and the warmth and love that little home had.

The old repairman I took my amp to looked at it and said the speaker was blown in it. I asked him how much it would cost to put an new one in it. He laughed and told me he would just re-build the speaker that was in it. He has the talent, and technical know how to rebuild speakers among many other talents involved in instrument repair. I have learned quite a bit about this old guy since the first time I met him. Come to find out, my dad had bought the amp I use from him when I was 13. I have taken really good care of it. Returning it to him for repair was a unique opportunity. Until someone told me about him, I did not know he was even still alive to do the repairs. According to most of the music stores in town, they want him to repair most of their electronic equipment that comes in for repairs. He seems to have a knowledge and skill that many people do not have anymore. Most people would have just put a new speaker in.--Mike

I find that when something breaks even if it was a costly item It's time to buy a new one.
In stead of renting a mixer save the $$ and buy a new one. When the onld one comes back from repair it can be you back up or sell it on ebay.

I have to agree...
I took my 16 channel mixer, that had a bad left channel to the music store to be fixed. It was supposed to go back to PV to be repaired. That was about 2 years ago... Nobody has a clue as to where the mixer is. So i had to buy a new one anyway.....
Most of these things today are not even made to be fixed. They will tell you that almost everything is a "Throw Away Item." It will cost so much money to diagnose and repair...you could have bought a new one. And saved yourself a whole lot of time and money.

Update: STILL dont have my mixer back ! The guy hasnt even looked at it ! PLUS asked hubby if he could bring our speakers to test it ??? Like this guy does this for a living & doesnt even have speakers to test a mixer ? Im po'd so hubby calls warrenty company & they tell hubby b/c the claim is already in the sysem that the guy has to call & say he cant fix it to get my mixer back from him to take it to someone else. Hubby is waitin till beginning of next week to give the guy one last chance before asking him to call & say he cant or wont fix it. I could have bought a pretty decent mixer with what Ive been renting one for. GRRR !

Buy a new one and write that old one off as M.I.A. Then write off the new one on your income tax.

Im soo po'd right now ! Sooo we FINALLY get a call from this quack of a repairman that our warrenty company sent us to & he says "Im finding it hard to fix this mixer" " I dont seem to have the repair manual to it" ....A friggin month later he tells us this ???? GRRRRR !! We got on the phone with the warrenty co right away & long story short the guy had to call the warrenty company & tell the warrenty co. that he couldnt fix it & the warrenty co. sent us to pick it up & gave us a shipping label to send it to yet another place. Im STILL renting one but thank God the people at the rental place are giving us a deal b/c of how long we've had to rent. But really we are thinking seriously about using our tax $ & buying a back up system for times like this, and the fact that I will have the system in the house not locked in a trailor all the time ![LOL LOL](./images/smilies/emot-LOL.gif) ! I miss singing during the daytime while everyones at work & school. That used to be "my time" so if I can convince hubby I will soon have a new system ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

I'd have a backup mixer, even if it's inadequate. You're giving your money away on a rental!
