Hi, I'm a mobile DJ looking to get into Karaoke, I converted my second system into a Karaoke system and now I'm looking for a good software that I don't have to use more that 2 differant screens to select songs to play them. A friend of mine uses PCDJ KJ. I used it once and I liked it but, after reading some reviews there have been some issues with that program, getting it set up with registration and locking up. I like the concept of the program though. Also has anyone used a DJ/KJ Mixing software so I can do both without bouncing from one software to another? I use DJ Mix Meister Pro now for my DJing. I downloaded a demo of RoxBox, a little confusing, too many screens and then I tried to use MTU and I couldn't get it to play songs off my hard drive (maybe I was doing something wrong). This is fairly new to me but I'm willing to be educated any positive tips or suggestions would be grately appreciated. Thank you for your time and have a great day.

For KJ/DJ I have evolved from many to Roxbox.. It has 2 screens player1 & player2. Each can be tailored separately volume etc. All fade modes are availible auto or manual. Playlists can be generated for either player and switched on the fly. A song can be highlighted in 2 and auto fades to it.

Either player has SAYT search as you type Any song can be found and playing or qued with singer history or singer list in a few seconds.  I have tried all the others They are too slow and cumbersome.

Use PCDJ Red VRm / with the KJ PLuggin - I like it and have been using for awhile.

Trust me --no matter what program you use you will have a tough time at the start until you learn the ins and outs

Good luck

Compuhost is the best karaoke program out there, in my opinion. Expensive at $179.00 but worth it.

If you are one of the type whose shows I won't attend -- the ones who plays as many or more DJ songs as karaoke -- then I can't speak to whether it would be good. I do know it has a separate music player with two queues.

PCDJ Blue with the Karaoke plugin will do both the DJ function-it has two players and it has third player for Karaoke. The two music players are on top and you can fade from one song to the other with one click. It's easy to load a song and have it ready to go while a song is playing and you can have a Karaoke song/singer ready to go at the same time in the third player.

For sure PCDJ is a very busy looking and complicated program, but if you take some time to play around with it and use it, then you'll see it's pretty powerful. You can change the key and the tempo in the program with a simple slider and the key change/tempo are independent of each other. I ordered them both off Amazon and I payed around $80 for the pair including shipping from two different vendors.

PCDJ allows you to install on 2 different PCs so you can have a main system and a backup. If you DJ and KJ then this is a workable system for very little money IMO. You can probably get away with DJing using Winamp, Windows Media Player , Jet Audio or a bunch of other free media players out there. The media player that comes with the Creative labs X-Fi laptop sound card is pretty good too.

One more thing, you need to make the song titles as short as possible and split your music and Karaoke files into a bunch of different folders or PCDJ will have problems. It will lock up. If you get rid of all the music files over 8-10 mb, make the titles a reasonable length, split the number of files into a few hundred each folder or at least no more than a thousand, then it should work fine. I found this out by trial and error. PCDJ does have a very good lookup function and it will find music and Karaoke files with simple one word lookups. All you do is type in the artist first or last name or a word from the title and all listings will come up.

For what you want, Roxbox is a very good solution as it won't force you to eliminate songs based on the size of the file.  I can think of at least one or two songs you can't get away without having, Paradise By The Dashboard Lights is one of them that would be eliminated by that criteria.

Have you tried Debs Pro Karaoke Player...

Some of the features include:

Easy to use.
Creating a Database List is simple and does does not force you to format your file names.
Quick Search Feature that allows you to search for songs.
Sort button to reorder the results returned in your search.
Singer History that allows you to separate your singers for each venue.
Double-clicking a file in the Search or Singer History adds the song right into the Play List.

I switched from Hoster to Compuhost because it had the ability to store singer history & a couple other fun features.  Hoster was a great program, but seems to be lacking some of the competive edge anymore that several other programs seem to now offer including the history reports, special graphics that you can send to the singer monitor, the ability to type in a message on the fly & send it to the singer monitor, extra player for fill music.  If they would offer at the very minimum a history report, I would probably switch back.
I did have to convert my kma files over & their Songverter program stepped up & did it beautifully.

I want to thank everyone for there time and their efforts on your suggestions. I decided to go with PCDJ Red w/ KJ plug in. I had a minor clich with loading the data base. I called tech support and they were great!! I was educated that I can't have more than 5 thousand songs in one folder, after that, the program runs great!! It's up and running w/ 25 thousand songs in 30 sec. What I like about it also is that I don't have to switch screens at all to play Karaoke or a regular song (mp3) everything is right there. And the built in EQ is Great, you can make adjustments on the sound and sounds like a real band playing behind you. I do know also that good equipment creates that also. I have a Rane MP 2mixer with a VocoPro DA-1055 Pro running through it for effects on the Mics. As for the Mics I went with Sennheiser G2 165 (awesome mic), and my speakers are JBL G2 15inch. I have recieved a lot of compliments on the sound if that helps anyone.

Does anyone know of a program that I can use to run my DJ music that has a searchable database in/with it?  I use Sax & Dotty's show presenter for my Karaoke music and I like the searchable database feature on it, and would like to find a similar program to use for playing DJ music between singers.

**Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those KJ's that plays more DJ music than singers, but I can't stand it when there's dead air space between patrons songs.

Roxbox It has a karaoke list and mp table in the data base And uses 2 players.

This  gives some of the original features and gives an idea how it works. We have several playlists for the DJ (player2) and can switch on a dime. Click on player 2 tab then back to one.  Left click on each link for a brief description..

DJ Tuck,
check out clubDJ pro2 at www.clubdjpro.com . it will do your karaoke, dj music, videos etc and more...  it is not a hosting program but you seem to be capable of handling rocket science like rotations, remembering what your customers sing etc... it is a great mixing program that will fit your needs exactly... good luck...
