Most of my regs know that I will always give them the best version of the song so this isn't really an issue. I do have the manu codes in my book for those who know the difference and they appreciate it.

Someone else's opinion of the best isn't always mine.
I don't have a problem with not putting the manufacturer in if you only list the song once in your book. But listing the song twice *without* the manufacturer is kind of ridiculous. Do you expect someone to guess the number which is best? Is the first one listed always the best in your opinion?
It is kind of like the cruise ship I went on once -- they produced three different songbooks. Sorted by artist, by title, and by number. Their arbitrary sequential number.
The songbook programs which produce arbitrary code numbers without manufacturer codes are just examples of stupid software. Being a programmer, I have occasionally written some stupid software -- and I have seen a lot of it.

If someone is listing a song multiple times in their books without including manu notes, they have book maintenance issues and should probably seek advice.

Quote: Yep, been at this since 92, know all the different companies, but funny thing is many still do know (even some of the young kids as they have been singing at home on their personal machines since before they were 21 as the home market has exploded in the past few years) & ask for & know different versions.
Yea you are right on there Lonnie In fact my new song lists I am getting they tell what cd's they are available on.. Y'all are sort of changing my mind but I'm not going to rename over 13k files for the song book.
When I am hosting I really prefer oral requests unless we are super busy or we are jamming loud and I cant hear them ... ![LOL LOL](./images/smilies/emot-LOL.gif)

Karyoker: All your songs are mp3+g?
Are the MANU and DISC ID in the files ?????
There is a great program out there that will read your files and create lists and books using your file names -- List MANUF and complete disc id if you want

Jam it's one of those type deals where now it takes me all night long to do what I used to do all night long. I have spent so much time rippin and 2 finger typing I actually dread getting new songs and doing books.
For those just starting I would recommend this In the zip file have both cdg and mp3
Cb60399 - sugarland - Stay.cdg (mp3)
bUt the zip file name format - Sugarland(CB) - Stay.zip
The best renamer I have found is this

If/When I redo my books which pry won't be for awhile, I am going to take out 'man codes' and 'dups' from the main books. The master book/mine will still have all versions and man codes for the instances when you want a different or better version. I do get real tired of trying to explain why I have 2,3,4,8 different versions of a songs in my books. What's obvious to some, is not so obvious to everyone. MrD

Some of us don't have that big a library and we want to make it look bigger! My 5200 unique and 7100 total look bigger that way. ![Cool 8-)](./images/smilies/icon_cool.gif)

Then you make bigger readable fonts, this will push the cells wider thus creating more pages plus will give some with poorer eyesight better reading option.
Listing dups to give the illusion of a large book is an old trick, many 'saavy' singers can see through this. Large books don't necessarily mean good selection. SOngs people want to sing is a good selection.

I use Music Book Deluxe and switched to two columns but then had to increase the size of the font significantly as it was just too difficult to read ( think it defaults at 9 - I use at least 10.5). I empathize - nothing is worse than font that is too small in dim light!

Karen I did the exact same thing.
I find no matter how big I make the font people still have trouble reading though. I put out little magnifying glasses for people. I think the problem is mainly that people don't bring their reading glasses to a bar. I don't blaim them, but I don't always have the time to help them read the numbers.
