HEY!

You're hanging with the wrong crowd, then! Sheesh!

I'm speaking in generalities here Matt.

Ya can't tell me men don't constantly look a gal up and down or do the double-take when confronting a gal they're meeting for the first time. And 90% of the time if you walk past a guy, and quickly look back over your shoulder, his eyes are watching your backside as you leave. And they make comments that would make my momma smack their faces;) I have 4 brothers, not to mention as I told ya before- my hubby was a diesel mechanic for years and I hung out with truck drivers every weekend- I was privy to all sorts of guy talk. And I'm not running men down, just stating that it's the way of men. (and I did say most men, not all men)  :D

You, for instance, would never do a thing like that.  :brows:

(please note the teasing tone of my voice, I didn't mean to spark any comments with that statement... no offence intended to you or anyone else, really)

As to Charmin and her MEN SlAMMING----------------well, we are ALL ALWAYS on our BEST BEHAVIOR---ALL GENTLEMEN,  NICE AND WELL MANNERED!!!

ESPECIALLY ME!!! :) :)    LMAO

Now TO GET BACK ON TOPIC!!:

As to voting with thier feet..............well it would appear that this has already begun to happen at that venue---the LONG-TIME Bartender who quit, Charm who now goes up the street to the competitor bar---along with her ENTOURAGE(which is usually a table of about 8-10 pals and family members who hang  out with her at Karaoke). Odie who sounds like hes ready to go too(he's been going there since the place opened) and most likely a good number of thier long-time regulars who have gotten fed up with it. That's sales and revenue lost along with the damage done by word of mouth. Their town  is not THAT SMALL THAT THERE ARENT OTHER OPTIONS!

You know Charm's town is a small tight-knit community and they do have a local
newspaper there---seems to me this whole saga would be something that the local paper would LOVE TO GET A HOLD OF AND RUN A STORY ON.

As to the intent of all this---what I gather is they simply want the owner of the bar and the KJ owner to get this knucklehead to tone it down and behave a bit more PROFESSIONALLY. The lewd crude obscene act becomes offensive and boorish. The longtime locals get tired of it and dont WANT to LEAVE thier regular hang-out, but they will if the guy doenst tone his nonsense down. No one wants someone fired. But if the guy cant or wont control himself then he will have to leave. Everyone wants to give him a chance to knock it off and improve himself. But if he wont--then give him the hook.  Give 'em enough rope...............

I've met more lecherous young women (and some older too), than I have blatantly lecherous men... granted, we're more well known for that regard, but in the last generation I've seen the pendulum swing the other way, and with the Edgar Allan Poe type of twist to it, one with a blade on it that cuts deeply!

Not to say guys can't be that way, and I realized that you're speaking in generalities. I will ALSO note that a company I started with has some very serious rules for males meeting women in public places, and vice versa... because they're more aware of the potential sexual considerations than most other companies. It bothers me a great deal as I was honestly niave about it and kept asking WHY the need for such blatant PC type of attitudes... seems gossip does MOST of it's dirty work. I think many people LOOK for more problems than are generally there.

As my fiance' mentioned to me after our PC conversation, I'm not like most guys. I tried to tell her I AM, it's just I don't blindly ACT on those impulses. And she replied THAT is what made me different. But many of the guy friends I've had are the same way! Of course, many WEREN'T!

So I wasn't offended per se, it's just I could make the same kind of comments back about women, Charmin, but choose not to.

What are some of the things this guy does and says that is offensive?

I'd love to hear some examples of what this guys done. I have a feeling that they are way above normal just having fun and joking around.

Since most of us haven't been to the show we are speculating what he's like.

I'm picturing a KJ that would make comments about a womens body parts while they sang and maybe even be a little touchy touchy. If that happened to me while singing my fiancee would surely deck the guy.

Last night's show was a weird one.  Bitchy, bitchy.

Pool players started doing 9-Ball on Wednesdays about a month ago.  This, as a favor.  Two weeks in a row now I've had a player come up as I was setting up my show and asked if I could turn my lights off because (they're bouncing off the tables).  Uh, no.  What's the difference if I annoy you now with my lights, or in 20 minutes.  Everybody has the same disadvantage.  Pool players and karaoke enthusiasts have to co-exist.  Besides, they've got a stranglehold on Saturday nights.  I do Fridays, I want Saturdays too.  I can't have it because it's pool night.  I don't mess with them on Saturdays because - that's their night to shine.  Karaoke nights are mine and strictly for partying!!!

Then some older transient type who doesn't like music above elevator decible, asked me if I was crazy.  When I asked back ... "I don't know, am I?".  He said, 'turn the volume down.'  He was a little agitated.  Might have been short-circuiting his hearing aid  (He tells me the same thing each time he comes in).  I kindly told him it was karaoke night and it was going to be even louder once the show started.  I suggested he go somewhere quieter.  He then said, 'I won't be here if that's the case.'  I got stuck for a rebuttal because I wasn't sure if I cared.

If you've read some of my old posts where I talk about this couple who comes in and complains about there not being enough country music ... they were in last night.  I started the show off with eight country songs, mainly because the crowd at the time was country - including them.  (I start my shows a little early, play some music and encourage people to bring up slips).  I even sang all country songs myself last night.  Well, at the end of the show, as I was playing my hip hop/rock set to close, both of them started getting lippy with me.  Some history:

1)  They are long-time regulars
2)  They've complained to the owner on several occasions because they don't like my style (but none for a few months until last night).
3)  I just started dating her son's ex (they have children together).  This woman is my girlfriends' kids' grandmother.
4)  I broke up a fight last Friday (where he was on the ground getting pummeled).  Essentially I saved his (@$%&#!).

My girlfriend was telling me this week that this woman doesn't like me (because I'm a city boy in the country).  No big deal - I get that all the time.  Then they both come in and starts booing and heckling me.  I played one song that totally offending this woman (Fxck the Police, by NWA), even though most everyone else was getting off on it.  She was serious too.     I know it's offensive, it was written to be.

Mind you it was closing time and the Ozzy, Metallica and Accept went over ever better than the NWA (the country crowd normally gives way to the rock/hip hop later in the evenings).  I was playing requests.  I had two guys (first timers) who said they'd be back because they had so much fun.

So as these two (the bitchers) were mouthing off, I got on the mic and said, "Okay, you two, that's enough.  This place comes equipped with a door, if you don't like what you're hearing, leave."  You should have seen the surprised look on their faces.  He asked me, 'Did you just ask us to leave."  I said, 'Yep, I get paid to do a job I don't need the hassles or your disrespect."  He followed with, "Fine, I'll tell Lisa (owner) you asked us to leave."  I said, "What?  You're still here?"  She (the woman) ended up writing a note, lecturing my girlfriend, and storming out of the place.  They left skid marks tearing out of the parking lot.

Some notes:

1)  My girlfriend supports me and my show 100%.  She didn't see a problem with it.
2) Nor did the bartender (from the place next door) and her friends, who actually gave me props for sticking up for myself.
3)  The bartender, who is all too familiar with these two, said don't worry about the note, 'I ammended it by stated they were both drunk, and asked Lisa to talk with me (her) about it' - she didn't see anything wrong with the show or my 'get the fxck out' suggestion either.
4)  I don't like those two any way.  I don't care who they are to my girlfriend (actually she doesn't like them much either - too much drama).
5)  Did I mention I played an eight song country set to start with - for them, so they wouldn't have room to (@$%&#!) later - my bad, eh?
6)  After saving this dude's (@$%&#!) on Friday night (or at least the remainder of his face), he didn't even say 'Thanks' or anything.  He totally dismissed it.  This was a 4 person knock down drag out fight - two faces bashed in, two people ended up in jail, and 1 86'd for life (all over a girl).  I don't normally get involved, but I was showing off to my new girl.

Anyway, we were the only place left open (of the eight bars in town) after midnight last night, so everybody that wanted to be out drinking had one option.  My show.  It brought people together that may normally have been scattered about the town.  Lot's of annoying people too (the kind that follow you around like puppy dogs, talk your ear off regardless if you're in the middle of a song, setting up, tearing down, q-tipping, and one that keeps hitting me (hard) and thanking me for being such a good friend, even though I do my best to avoid him).

It was a weird night, but it made me think of this discussion.  I will never cater to someone or a group of people that treat me with the same disrespect (disdain) as this couple did last night (and has in the past).  In fact, I'm seriously thinking about 86'ing them from my shows for a couple of weeks to make a point.  I've done it with another girl for similar BS behavior and it proved to work.  Everybody wanted it their way last night.  I couldn't win any which way I turned.

Shows are like a box of chocolates.

I'm glad you stood up for yourself. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to do the same thing. It's so much harder to do your job when you have people like that making you miserable. Hopefully they won't come back and if they do they should appologize !

I have a snobby singer that for the most part just irritates people with her uppety ego filled ways. She starts verbal fights with the guys in the bar complaining they're staring at her - ya right. Well Saturday night she was complaining and making faces because people were having fun. They had started a conga line at one point and Johnny was cracking them up on the microphone making fart noises. She was to sing right after Johnny. She came on stage holding the mic by her finger tips saying she didn't want to sing in it now. I had had it with her complaining and with out even thinking I said over the mic I'd clean it for her. I grabbed it and rubbed it in my arm pit and handed it back. Oh geez what did I just do.  LMAO

The funny thing is she sang her song and didn't complain the rest of the night.  :D

Nice ... I keep a can of Lysol handy.  I never tried the pit wipe, I may need to give it a shot.  I had one guy leave a stench beyond belief on a mic one night, vowed never to put another singer through that.  Made the next singer gag, literally.  I rarely share my mic so I don't have to chance it.  I'll lend it to the cuties though.   :hi5:

I don't generally pop off at people like I did last night, but the place was starting to thin, and these two were just being a real pain - the vibe was constant from them all night.  I was already having a strange night, I didn't need any more.  I haven't heard the last of it, I'm sure.  These two are acquaintances of the owner.  They were out of line and the bartender (who is the head one - and sober) made that clear.  Depending on what she (owner) says about it all, I'll follow up with a two week ban for both of them.  They'll be back, it's where all their friends hang.  It'll suck for them if they can't sing their country songs and have to listen to others singing Godsmack and stuff.   :)

LMAO babs. honestly your pit is probably cleaner than most karaoke mics. my buddys wife used to clean em with alcahol every couple of singers. turns out its really rough on the foam in the mic.

I agree , don't let people push ya around too much, its you're show!

My final word on if the kj is going too far,   If you question it, it might be too far. if others also question it  it is probably too far. if management questions it, its too far.

one gal I used to go see had four to six wireless mics going... and she would disinfect them after EVERY use. Wasn't the same one being handed back and forth. This allowed the mics time to dry between uses, and no bad smells or germs lingered!

I just let them freeze for a while between shows. from night to night  theyre probably only frozen for about 15 hours, but they freeze. I try not to share my mic with singers, however there are always a couple who want to sing on the cordless. I keep all but my mic corded as the sound is a bit better (sm58s and monster cables) and im just not giving drunks a $500 mic. it also keeps em on a leash something that is usually nice lol.
