Cat.... that's the biggest thing with me. Maybe I'm just a bit too much of a chatter (ya think?) but I could never do the "TY" thing only in the reply box. I like to answer each person individually according to how they commented/who they are.  Lots of those people don't come in here, and long ago I quit doing the MSN and MySpace thing, I only associate with lots of SS people... in SS.

So, that's about all the conversation I ever have with most all people there. To just say "TY" would be rude, to me. If I were here each and every day, and chatted with everyone on MSN and on the phone & stuff, maybe it wouldn't be the same. But I like to recognize each person individually and not leave a general comment to each. And that.... does... take a bit of time.

(now don't go quoting me on that, my last & only sub... took me about a week to get back in SS... and most of my replies are rather short and to the point... made me feel a bit guilty too, but I figured a quick reply was better than none at all) ----> So don't anyone go reading around in there and call me a liar;)  LMAO

Murlin... We've all been known to lose our cool here from time to time, conversations get a bit heated when serious things like karaoke are discussed.

Heck, even me, an even-tempered gal if I do say so myself... have been known to take people to task a time or two:)

IMO, it's all good. Like Hollywood, something new will happen here shortly and this lil' argument will be forgotten about.

You're right Charmin and Cat.  A lot of times you want to come up with new and specific comments for each person.  And yes SS comments and replies is a way of just socializing and keeping in touch for many people.

I think if people know they are going to be busy and probably won't be able to reply to comments they should take advantage of the "L" Listen Only option more often.

You and I were apparently raised the same way and I completely agree, doin' the "TY" just don't cut it with me.  It seems extremely inadequate and yeah, rude.

Ya think bein' raised country is a bad thang in this case?  Nahhhhhhhh, any other way we wouldn't be who we are and personally I think yer purdy kewl

A 'thank you' being considered rude????  Isn't that a paradox???  Sometimes the more you say can be misunderstood as well as the less you say... :talk:

I reckon it would Joyce pmsl

How about rude form then?  Just to acknowledge a well thought out comment with the simple words "Thank you" just doesn't seem adequate IMO.  The times when I've replied with just a few more words than that didn't quite seem right; I'd like to think my momma raised me with a few more manners than that  :handshake:

Cathi,  I understand how what's construed as a "canned" quick response given to all might be taken as "rude" or at least very impersonal, hence somewhat demeoning.
Yet realistically those that sub at least several times a week, and feel they have a responsibility to reciprocate can end up taking hours in SS to listen, respond, and formulate responses.  It's very time consuming.. But assuming I sub'd,  and left everybody this same exact comment

Thanks for listening..

Wouldn't it seem so impersonally mechanical that it'd negate it's intent  ? Almost a copy and paste "Thank you" stamp.

Hey!! Okay, okay, so maybe I'm not always so mild mannered;) Yeah, blame it on those southern roots.  LOL

No, no, not saying "thank you" is rude. There are times, when someone has commented to me and I don't know them at all I have said little else besides "thank you for coming by, I appreciate the listen and comment" and I know that sounds a little too "general", but for lack of something more familiar to say- that's all I put. And at other times I've done that cause I'm hurrying to get everyone replied to. I have a problem with saying the esact same phrase to everyone... seems like you're not even thinking out your replies.

I mean... to acknowledge EVERY comment, the same way, as in "TY".... "TY".... "TY.... all down the page, seems very very impersonal to me.

(edit... wow, I really slurred the word "exact", didn't I?)  LOL

Maybe "generic" is a better word to use in this instance?  I just don't wanna seem completely thoughtless I reckon.

Yup, yup, "generic" would be a better term. I just usually babble too fast to make any sense out of my sentences;)

Absolut? Cuervo? Where?

Girl, you have NO idea how I could use one today. (or 2.. or 3.. or 4..)

If it weren't for the fact that I have to head to the big city here shortly (no Odie, not talking bout Canby... I mean PDX)  LOL ... well, if not for that, I'd maybe nurse a few.
