I would definitely check and respond. Sometimes I'll just do a search for a certain song (have done that with songs my kids like as a matter of fact a few times) and will sometimes leave a comment even if it's an older submission. It's nice to know when I leave the comment that the person who I left if for saw it.

Odie and Babs brought up a good point- I do cut slack to newbies- the people I get upset with are the ones that have been here longer than me- and who sub frequently--I don't care if you don't respond to each and every comment I make- but when I make thoughtful comment on 5 or 6 of your subs and you don't respond- THOSE are the ones I am referring to.
Also Babs- there is nothing mor complimentary (in my book at least) than to know that someone cared enough about hearing "me" that they went and took backlistens. When you're on the front page- you're out there are people are cruising for the latest subs- many of those are doing so because they also subbed and want you to listen to them in return. When someone takes back listen- there is no such motivation- they either really like "you" or really like the song you did. Either way- the chance the interest is genuine goes up by about 1000% So yeah- if I were you I'd check to see if people left comments for you..those are the ones to treasure.

not trying to hijack a thread, but i have a comment.....the "moved" topic logo looks like the view from above of a beer can.
as for the on topic reply. i quit subbing to singer's showcase for just that reason. i simply didn't have time (i know it only takes a couple of inutes to type something out) to respond to every comment. you see i'm one of those people who feels that every response to a comment should be unique and different so it literaly would take me 5 minutes to think of a clever, heartfelt, well-put response. i feel that if someone took the time to lisen to your sub and make a comment or critique, you have the obligation to at the very least acknowledge the comment.

I personally try to acknowledge anyone who comments; but realistically, I fall way short simply because of time constraints brought on by day-to-day life, and for those that I don't get around to, I can only offer my humblest appologies. I do read all the comments; and personally, I feel bad when I can't respond to a comment in a timely manner.

Quote: I never understood the "It's just Karaoke" attitude..It's SINGERS showcase.. People rank the SINGER, they don't go into the showcase to "hear Karaoke", they go to listen to how the SINGER is performing with the backing..
Well I can understand that POV...but that description is not in any rules on the Showcase forum. And If I couldn't sub in the Showcase I wouldn't even be here at all and neither would anyone else, this is how the site pays for their bandwidth usage.
This is not a professional singers Forum. This site is a Karaoke site...hence the name "Karaoke Scene"... If ever Karaoke bar in the country only had professionals sing it would no longer be Karaoke....
And I disagree about why people go to the SS...if it were just for Ranking purposes only, there would be no need for a JFF or L category. All this discussion comes around the merger of all kinds of people coming together for all kinds of reasons. And the ranking system will never work the way as it is intended to.. But it keeps new people coming in and so it is necessary to keep it in place no matter how flawed.
If I want to hear professionals sing my favorite songs, I will just go buy a CD...
So I guess it all boils down to you can't please all the people all the time..

No offense Murl but I don't understand that attitude at all! There are several professionals on SS who, for one reason or another, aren't signed to major labels yet still like to put their music out for others to hear. "Karaoke Scene" is the name of the publication and organization that sponsors Singers Showcase but that doesn't mean it's simply a karaoke site. Talk like that can get my dander up at times.
Just a karaoke site? Maybe to you but not to others, including myself. My :2cents:

One more thing, many of those "professionals" who have cds out can't sing worth a lick.

Agree. I do not subscribe to the idea that Karaoke is 'singing not to be taken seriously.

Well I didn't mean to offend..
You guys need to lighten up...life is too short and remember no one gets out alive
Cat, the Karaoke industry makes money off the people who can't sing. If only pros went to Karaoke shows, every KJ in the world would be outa work..
If SS were to only take money from the ones like yourself, and the handful of others who are of professional quality, it could not operate and pay for its servers, bandwidth, and all the other expenses. If SS did not intend to make money it would be a free site...and it is not. So in essence..the SS entity makes 90% of its profits from "just karaoke"...now that is not meant to offend, it is just my opinion...
But I am constantly hearing complaints about SS...I got no problem with it at all..and I get kinda tired of all the belly aching..
For me, I am getting just what I want out of it...it's fun and I am paying for it.
I am sorry if that makes people angry....

I always appreciate the time someone has taken to listen and comment to one of my subs and will always endeavour to reply to their comments asap. Yes, I would consider it bad manners on my part not to do so.
One of the main problems I can see leading to people not replying is the time it takes to reload pages on the site. That sure creates a lot of down-time and for anyone constrained by the time they have on-line, it could be a big disincentive to leaving any comments or replies.
I am one of those who often has very little time to be on-line and just can't comment on every song I listen to as well as reply to every comment left on my songs, even when I'm listening to other songs while replying, which is often the case. But one thing I always do as soon as logging on to SS is to click on my own name and check for new comments on all my songs so that I don't miss any.

gotta agree bout the time factor here...and it doesnt ever seem to improve. Basically you are wasting the equivalent time it would take to listen to a song every 2 or 3 songs listened to...becos that is the time it takes to comment and the pages to load. Phil darrrrlin there must be something that can be done on SS about that

yeah- that would be killer- I end up playing solitaire every time I'm listening to the latest subs because it takes so long for them to load between each page
perhaps it WOULD make a difference in people willingness to respond if it was less time restrictive. Phil is there anything we can do?
Oh an CAT... I couldn't feel what you said with any more fervor if you were sitting in the same room with me. you NAILED it with that comment GF!~

I don't usually add my 2 cents but this topic was well brought up and after skimming through some of the threads and being reactionary enough to crunch on a bag of apple cinnamon pretzels because I am a little agaitated at some of what I am reading but then they are opinions and like a@@&*()&, everyone has one.. Crunching on my last pretzel, I am calmer now and will add 50 cents ..
In response to the quote 'it's only karaoke'.....It is a fact that Christina Aguilera made her first demo from karaoke
There are many singers on here that were singing long before Karaoke and don't just use it to get up on stage drunk with their friends on a weekend. I am sure I am not the only one that started out in a band years ago, not to have made it famous but discovered this wonderful way to sing anything I want without having to depend on musicians.
I don't want to veer away from the original topic so that's all I'll say on that.
Yes, I do think it is very rude when people cannot respond with a simple thank you, when someone comments on their song. I know of one gifted, nice person that used to be a regular on SS and was very consistant about responding. Then that person got a job and even told me that they were too busy to respond but wanted to continue posting songs & asked what my opinion was on the matter. I said if you don't have time to say thank you, don't put up the song. Well, they've continued to put up their songs without responding and I personally wrote them that even though I was a fan of theirs ( and this person told me time & time again, how what I thought of them really mattered) I would no longer comment on the song. This person only subs now on occasion, still not responding.
In the past I have had 2 people tell me that they felt bad because ALL I said was 'thank you for your listen'.. goes to show you can't please everyone all the time...
I find it irksome when people put up songs and still haven't responded to the comments on their previous song.
I don't think that just by going to the person's song and commenting is the same as saying thank you. We have a response box on the site, that's what it's for . It's better than not ackowledging them at all but still...
Thanks!!

One thing I can say about you, Joyce, is you practice what you preach. You have always been great about responding to comments in a timely manner. I don't mind if it takes someone a few days to get to that, but it's nice to finally see they read your comment. If someone doesn't reply, how do we know if they ever read them in the first place? I'd hate to think I was commenting to the air.

Thank you Debbie.. I can understand a person being torn by wanting to share the song and not having the time to respond but this is a community and people do count. I think Perry has the perfect idea for putting his up under L too. I know that if I ever get back to work again, I won't have the time to put up the songs, cept on weekends and that goes hand in hand with responding...

yep its tough especially with a full time job...steve has been away for the last 10 days so its meant that I have been around a bit more often in the evenings. But he gets home tomorrow so I wont have quite so much time also it helps that I do a lot of my work from home...even so I find it difficult at times to do everything. I feel sometimes that its as important to listen and comment and I wont sub a song unless I have listened
