A number of years ago where I had been KJ'd we had Billy Idol pop in and the owner lady sang White Wedding for him. Another time Cuba Gooding Jr. was filiming a movie in Portland and made the place his karaoke hang-out for a few nights. Mel Counts(ex LA Laker/Boston Celtic forward from the Jerry West/Wilt Chamberlain teams) came in with his son one evening. Bill Walton has visited before. We've had Tanya Harding and local musicians pop in from time to time. And a number of local TV and Radio personalitys have hung out occaisionally.

Nah it was no big deal, really.  He came to a show we were playing while in the band, & got to talking jokingly about karaoke & said he needed to come out to my show one night & suprisingly he did.  That was it.  Sang a couple & left.

Swingcat worked in at the Grand Cafe for quite a while and it is located at the foot of one of the main bridges that goes into downtown.

There have been alot of movies made here in Portland in the past 5 years and most of the big stars stay downtown. It would make sense that they would end up at the "Grand" as it is the first bar you come to on the other side of the bridge.  Prior to Karaoke the Grand was a famous Piano Bar and has a rich history of big stars stopping in to sing a piano toon or two.

Oh Yeah! I almost totally forgot about Tanya Harding LOL she does love to sing karaoke! She normally hangs out in Oregon City, or Gladstone Area for her singing though.

LMAO  The KJ is pretty safe Kappy

When you see her in person she is definitely the rowdy 4 wheel Drive driving, lives in the trailer park sort of gal. But she is quite harmless in public.

Now if she has a Big Guy with a closely shaved head and no brains with her I would probably pay for my drinks and head for another bar.  Either that or wear Shin Guards  LMAO

I dont do karaoke shows, but I do have a band and my fiddle player, "Bill Morris" started his career going on tour with Elvis.  He was the first person to ever tour with Elvis as his drummer.  He toured with Elvis for 2 years then quit to play fiddle (his first love) with Ray Price for 17 years.   Bill may be in his 80's, but is one of the best fiddle players I have heard in a long time.  There is a man who I noticed that showed up at all my shows.  One night, a friend asked me if I knew the guy and I said I only knew his first name.  Come to find out, he had played guitar for Waylon Jennings for many years.  He is back living in West Texas and said he really enjoys my shows. I do his kind of music.--Mike

when I was a kid my dad was the bass player in a couple of really popular area bands. they got to do a couple of regional shows where I met a couple big celebs backstage..too bad I cant remember who cuz i was only 9. I think either Petty or Springsteen was one of em but cant say for sure. it was early 80s and both were popular at the time. whoever it was it was a big deal that this guy showed up to do like 4 songs

I was off duty this night but at the place I worked at had Direks Bentley stop by with a couple of band mates and his wife after their concert.  They played just up the street and saw our KARAOKE sign.

I walked out and he was sitting in the rear of the place in a booth.  The bartender saw him and asked him to sing. Sing he did! He sang a lot and also took pictures with a lot of people in the place.  Great guy from what I hear.  I was upset to come in the next day to hear all the stories and see the pics.

He even stated many times he would come back next time he was in the area. True or not he is a great guy and made a lot of people happy that night.

Hmmm...famous people who've been to our shows...okay, Dick Clark, he didn't sing, but he bought us dinner. Jerry Springer, sang Love Me Tender. Stereo Fuse came in and paid my KJ $80 to let them sing their own song, Everything. Insane Clown Posse...that was interesting and a bit frightening. One of the girls from the Gilmore Girls. I've never watched the show, so I have no idea who she was...but some of my customers were nutty about her. Josh Gracin...refused to sing. He felt karaoke was beneath him. But he had no problem giving out autographs. The Arctic Monkeys came out. All of them sang except the lead singer. Some of the guys from McGuffy Lane stop by on occassion. And some guys from the group Next were at a show. We have some of their songs, but I'd never heard of them. Some of our customers recognized them. I think that's about it.

Famous people I WANT at a show: The ULTIMATE thrill for me would be Bette Midler or Barry Manilow. I would go happily insane if either of them ever came to a show.

I had Johnny Echo at my show last night. He does a mean rendition of "Cotton Eye Joe" and "Who put the Dick on the Snowman". He even brought his very own harmonica player.

I'd pay to hear Geoff Tate do karaoke... the Operation Mindcrime tour was one of the greatest concerts I've ever been to!

Gina Glocksen (American Idol) was at a show here in Wisconsin in late summer 2006 at a place called "The Log Cabin" near Montello with her family.

I was there that night and shared the stage with her.

Geoff IS great... but I tell ya, as a major fan of classic Queensryche, their sound and energy is nothing now as it was when Chris DeGarmo was in the band.

I haven't seen them since the newest lead guitar guy was used, but I wasn't impressed with Operation Mindcrime 2. Chris DeGarmo really filled in vocally a lot of stuff that nobody knew, until he was gone!! LOL!  Kelly Grey just SUCKED! Sheesh!
