We did the last song drawing before. It ONLY will work IF you are completed with a rotation & someone that hasn't sang for a while waiting for their turn isn't aced out because you came to the end of the night drawing to see who closes - you want to talk about complaints! It didn't go over well at our show - even after fixing that little problem. It really didn't keep anyone there any longer, most people left anyway simply because they didn't want to wait around to 'see' if they were going to get another turn.

We will continue to apply successful and professional business practices to this business as I have applied to many before. We will go that extra mile in every way shape or form in public relations, service or doing our job to make crowds.
I only do this to supplement SS but I gaurantee you we could come to your town and take over the karaoke business.. While you are sitting here worrying about petty rules and petty cash (extra time) we will be doing professional karaoke and bringing in crowds.
That is the main reason why our bars give us full rein including hours or format. If the crowds continue like Sat night then soon I will be making a hell of a lot more than you are. I have made as much as $500 a night for karaoke in it's heyday.

Would love to see that. Maybe you can get the cash price back up around here. ![oh yeah :oh yeah:](./images/smilies/emot-woot.gif) I know several companies - good ones too - that haven't seen a bar pay over $150 max in a long time.

lately it's been
"Lullaby" by shawn mullins, but i use to close with "red and rio grande" by doug supernaw. on occasion we use "don't the girls all get prettier". after the last karaoke song i play a montage of clips from different movies/tv shows. i use cartman from south park saying "screw you guys, i'm going home!" and ferris bueller saying "you're still here?! it's over! go home! go!". one of my favorites is eddie murphy saying "Everybody, party's over! max F-ed it up for everybody so let's just go home!", although i don't know what movie it's from. some other fun ones are pinky and the brain,
BRAIN-"come pinky. we must prepare for tomorrow night!"
PINKY-"why brain? what are we gonna do tomorrow night?"
BRAIN-"same thing we do every night pinky, try to take over the world!"
of course if it's a the first night of a two night deal there's bill lumberg in office space..."ummm, i'm gonna need you to go a head and come in tomorrow, so if you could be here around 9 that'd be great. M'kay?"
followed by Bill Murry in Groundhog day when he says "well what if there is not tomorrow? there wasn't one today!"
of course no night would be complete without michael keaton as "number four" in multiplicity....."Bye Steve! Great Party!"
yet another fun one is the guy from Aliens screaming "That's it man! Game over man, Game over!"
and of course there's the old standby from toy story. the little squeaky alien toy guy saying "farewell my friends! i go on to a better place!"
did i give ya some ideas?
but my all time favotire is bob euker in major league...
"post game show, brough to you by....ahhh i can't find it. to HELL with it!"

Per Lonman...took everything i had not to get defensive about that comment...and I am surprised to see that sort of attitude on this board. Figured we were all here to support each other and make suggestions to improve karaoke everywhere.
[font=Fantasy][/font] Now how 'bout a nice group hug.... ![LOL LOL](./images/smilies/emot-LOL.gif)

Lonnie dont why but it seems we are a year ahead of everybody else. At one time karaoke here was all but dead but it is growing stronger by the day. The owner told me that the big pizza area is now availilible for parties and banquets. Next year we will be moving the bar over there ( i have already suggested pay raise currently $150). I too was negative about karaoke for awhile but my old experiences and habits took over again... Stay away from the negative bar owners Get with a positive businessman.
The owner here cooks and waits tables just like the help.. He is very good and we have a very strong personal and business relationship. He restored my enthusiasm in my own business.

haah I thought the ss thing was a joke!! almost every place i go into tells me how nice it is having YOUNGER hosts who are in the same age group as the patrons. I dont know many bar patrons who want to party with there grampa! most older KJs ive seen have zero clue how to make things sound good or how to keep people involved in the show. however once grampa gets established (grampa is a good salesmen) nobody has the heart to tell him he sucks and drives patrons away till the bar says "ooh we cant afford karaoke anymore" making it impossible for anyone to get shows in a town is not "taking it over" sure he does a "profeshonal job" meaning he is religious with rotation, and has a decent selection. but thats about all.
If your on ss and looking for a new town come on over ![hug ](./images/smilies/emot-hug.gif) the shows you "take" will not be mine
wasnt there a topic here once??

Hmmm, I see more of the 'grandpas' of karaoke seem to know a little more about sound than the young-uns that come in that know nothing about sound or hosting skills. I know you you used to run sound for bands and know your stuff, but I did too (still do) as did several that chat here that are even older than me. As long as the host can interact with whomever may be at the club & make it profitable - be it young or old, there is no need to change a thing. I have been running a show 7 nights at the same club since 92 - started when I was 24, now 39 & still get young crowds (plus older followings since I don't discriminate & promote all ages - not saying you don't either, I don't know), maybe a difference I still know young music but still have to play by club rules - ie no swearing, certain genres limited, etc..

I don't see any negative if the KJ is older. I would hope most "youngins" would respect a KJ of any age. OF course the KJ would have to be professional and run a good show which would include the ABC's of hosting NO MATTER WHAT YOUR AGE.
a good kj needs to be able to interact and entertain ALL AGES !!!
Most KJ's will work 15-20 mins overtime which isn't a big deal --BUT thinking you can STEAL a show because you will work LATER than most is comparable to undercutting?????
OFFERING TO WORK LONGER FOR THE SAME RATE IS THE SAME AS OFFERING TO WORK THE SAME TIME FOR LESS MONEY

I agree that was harsh. I don't think age is a factor at all in being a good KJ. Having a good personality and knowing what you're doing will win over all.

im not saying nobody over 50 is going to do a good show or know there stuff. BUT with equal credentials and equipment the younger KJ will be more popular. anyone want a 65 year old fronting a rock band?? from a steriotypical point of view its more likely going to be an old country or polka band. LONMAN around here your in the "younger" Kj crowd. at 34 I only know of one other Kj my age within 25 or 30 miles. as i said before I have had 3 managers in the last 6 months tell me that they do not want "some guy in his 60s" runing a show

![LMAO LMAO](./images/smilies/emot-LMAO.gif) , the people you consider old, far out-number, and even farther out-spend, the people you call your age group. They are also much less trouble. Furhtermore, people in your age group that actually like and get along with their parents/grandparents will go to the karaoke that caters to a age mixed crowd. They enjoy some of the oldies, and we also enjoy some of their music. Yes, 999 times out of a thousand, someone who's been mixing for many years will blow a young punk outta the water...... ![LMAO LMAO](./images/smilies/emot-LMAO.gif) .....IMHO........drugs have definetly distorted what your eyes and ears have taken in, as well as a brain that should be served along side some bacon and toast.......... ![LMAO LMAO](./images/smilies/emot-LMAO.gif)

In my area the majority of people in MOST bars that have entertainment are late 40s and under. most of those trying to act younger. the strongest spending forces in bars around here are the 21 to 35.I DO get older people at my shows frequently, and I treat them with respect and normaly see them back frequently. they will still never spend or attend on the level of the younger crowds.I do have photos of mother/ doughter and mother / son singing at my shows on my website.
as for the drugs, ive never touched the stuff, and never will. not even tryed it. for that matter Ive never smoked and rarely ever drank till i was 30. the last time I was drunk was over 3 months ago so I think trying to say that alcahol has anything to do with my judgement would be a pretty big stretch too.

![LMAO LMAO](./images/smilies/emot-LMAO.gif) LOL
Thread Revisited I will say it again..
Quote: We will continue to apply successful and professional business practices to this business as I have applied to many before.
Nowhere do I say I am going to come in your bar and try to undercut you.. I said we (not a mouse I do not host I have the 2 best hosts in the state another childish assumption on your part) can to come into your town and compete as a business and apply successful proven PR and business practices. We would gradually take over the businerss as we have here. (not with reduced prices but more than you charge) People tire of fly by nighter prices and pay for the best services so dont give me that apology crap.
Yet most here want to regard karaoke as a religion or whatever and think petty rules and philosophies are going to promote karaoke or establish a good business. You would rather sit here and argue and demand apologies and try to apply your petty rules and practices to 400 billion bars in the world.
It is due to these facts that you make outlandish assumptions and total inexperience with business practices and dont recognize positive statements from a successful businessman that I will make the statement again. I will compete with you heavy and take over. If you cant compete without age bias or childish BS then %^^%$
