wow, the manager at my higher paying gig informed me that there is karaoke thursday evening.  i just assumed the bar would be closed.  of course it's a great reason to get away from the wife's family, "sorry y'all!  gotta work!", but man i didn't expect it.
question---
do you work thanksgiving night and do you have any singers?

All I can say is that last year there was a wild karaoke night probably the busiest thursday for a few months.

That said many of the other bars in town were closed and we may have gotten a bit more of a crowd for that reason. Also most of the clientelle are younger people so that might have some bearing.

we just started our thursday, the owner is a family and religious man so he says he will close for family and religious holidays (xmas thanksgiving ect.) so we will not work but I told him im not against it next year. my best friend has had a thanksgiving show the last 3 years and it is always a good night for the bar, but his bar is established as always being open and having karaoke every thursday.pretty much only people in retail or serivce end up working on the friday after so people don't have to get up in the am. if the family and wife tick me off i might have to go out..but I doubt it

Wow - I wouldn't want to work on Thanksgiving. If it landed on my karaoke work night, we'd cancel.  The bar does do a meal of sorts so people have some where to go if they have no family. I think that is nice.

Good luck to you and I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving show.

Our bar used to close early for T-Giving in the early 90's.  My family came in one night after a meal & asked if we could play (sing), we were spending money & they said sure, surprisingly several people came in asking if they could sing too, we only messed around for a couple of hours, however we still had a 25 person rotation & they closed 2 hours later than they were planning, hey bar was making money & bartender made GOOD tips.  Next year they were open reg hours & karaoke was on the menu.  One of the biggest karaoke nights all year & huge money make for the bar!!!!!  Most people are done with their turkey roll around 5 or 6, they want to go & play!  Either your bar or someone elses will make the cash!
Our club don't close early for any night through the year anymore with the exception being Christmas Eve & an anual employee in house Christmas party which is Dec 2nd this year for us.  Christmas night is also a regular night for us.

Yes, I was a little suprised at first....but I'm working Wed-Sat at the bar.  They're open for Thanksgiving, don't know how the crowd will be, but I think it will be pretty good.  Most of the other places around are closed, so advertising that we're open....should bring in the people.  Going to be a LONG weekend, best of luck to everyone!  MrD

I'm gigging tonight and expecting a huge night.  Tomorrow the bar is opening at 5 and encouraging people to bring leftovers to share with others that may not have had a good meal/Thanksgiving.  That's a cool idea.

I always enjoyed working the Holidays because i have no family to share it with. The Karaoke shows during those times were my family and I enjoyed each show I worked because I didnt have to be alone. It really helped me during those times.
Instead of Thankgiving dinner or a Xmas tree or presents, I had my Karaoke Family to help me celebrate. Those were the best times.......MV

I've also worked several shows on Turkey Day, great crowds at all of them.  Hope yours goes as well!

I have never karaoke'd on thanksgiving.

Besides, the outlet malls here open at 12 am friday. "Midnight madness" for the opening of black friday... and I gotta be there. Shopping a good sale at the Levi's outlet is one of the few things that can keep me away from a fun karaoke night.

And THEN.... I'm one of those who has to work friday. (half day, but still... gotta open the office on time)  :(

Now if you did Karaoke from say 9pm till 11:30 you could drive to the outlet malls afterwards and do your shopping. LMAO

I have always said that Thanksgiving would be a good night to Karaoke. Once the dinner is done....say 5:30 to 6pm it's usually movies etc.  I've got a few days off and I'm itching to do something to keep me from falling into a turkey coma. Karaoke is the perfect solution....and if I have too much to drink....well I'm off for the next few days and have plenty of time to recover.

Wish your show was close! I'd be one of the first ones through the door.

I don't know anyplace here in my area open....hmmm.....Hey Swingcat! Got any ideas?

well, all in all it wasn't bad.  had a few regular singers and a few new ones.  the new ones liked the smaller rotation and the energy of the show even though we weren't packed.  the regulars just liked having someplace to go, i guess.  i DID tell the manager i wouldn't run another turkey day show, though.  i missed out on too much football!

Had one of our busiest nights, 32 singer rotation & surprisingly, no complaints & everyone stayed!

I am not sure you can call 32 singers a "rotation". It is more like an over-and-back. 8-)

32 singer rotation?!  geeze!  if i had a 32 person rotation, it would mean EVERYONE in the place was singing!    LMAO
seriously, that is quite a feat having that many singers and no complainers!  Kudos, man.  I have GOT to come to your show someday!
