More and more singers now are always looking for and trying new songs but there still are some with the same 3 or 4 night after night.

We need some ideas to encourage them to try new ones. Some things we do When a singer does a new song we let the audience know it is the first time and compliment then. If somebody requests a dj song we encourage them to ask a singer to sing it. havnt done kamikaze for years but it is another way.

A show years ago would have one rotation where each singer would sing a kamikaze and the audience would choose the winner for $50.

We have a very diverse group of singers from college kids to oldtimers which really helps and for some strange reason nobody is asking for for new stuff They are singing the oldies and the audience goes nuts. And we have some singers that change genre according to the age and preferences of the crowd.

Ideas?

A good trick that I've seen done is have a mystery song. Pick a song you like that people don't sing and offer $25 or more if someone finds it and sings it.

Don't make it too obscure or nobody will get it and people will just give up after a while.

I find no matter what you try some people just won't budge from there 3 standard songs, but I have tried a few things to get them to try something new.

One trick is to pick a song you know they could probably do well and that the crowd would like. Then invite them up to sing it with you or another regular who you know knows the song. Part of the problem is they are scared to deviate from their comfort zone, so if they don't have to sing it alone they will at least try it.

Another thing I've done is give them a recording of a song you'd like to hear them try. They will be flattered you thought of them. Then hopefully they'll go home and listen to it enough to feel comfortable trying it.

:D

We did that & the pot progressed $25 every week until it was won.  I think it finally hit $200 when it did go.  The last 5 weeks, we started giving some obscure but pertinent clues - 1 clue a week.
Suicide contests are always a way to get new songs done, some of our reg's have actually got new songs that they would do out of that.

I think you should have the barback tell these people that they suck and should leave and never come back.  That couldn't possibly go wrong!
