Ok, Jams question about New Years Eve got me thinking. How long do you play that night?? I usually get done around 4 am.....

Just curious to see if you all work your normal hours, or do they keep you there all night?

I'll run from 9 ish to around 3am ???

It will all depend on what th crowd is like after 2am - regular closing and if the COPS make them shut down at 2

when the bar closes normally. This year it will be about 1:30 as I'm doing a yacht club and they generally don't party much past 1am.

I usually go by weekend hours. I'll start at 9pm and go until 2am. If the crowd is still there I'll go until bar cloase 3am. Of course getting paid for the extra hour.  :D

Work my normal hours 9-1.  Will probably go to 1:30 since it will be busier than normal.  WA state laws state bars have to be closed at 2, so our bar has me shut down at 1:30 sharp - no later.  They want to make sure everyone is out.

That seems to be the norm in WI, the "state of intoxication"  but this trend does give bars a reason to go with KJ / DJ over a band on NYE..at ANY show I figure im getting paid to set up and rent out my gear..how long the show goes doesnt matter cuz I can usually quit before it stops being fun. if there are lots of drunk people having fun I will play all night.

The American Legion Club where I play on friday night, is going with a live band from Nashville, tenn. Bands have never made a profit for the club. Karaoke with people participation is where its at. I guess they can waste their money however they want. It is costing the legion 4 times the money they would have to pay for karaoke for 4 hrs. OH well, I guess they have to please the non singer too!!

I generally play by these 'rules' as well...the real work is already done, I'm playing till the end.  (Although I don't have to deal with any rent)  You have to be careful though, people/places start expecting something for nothing......very fast.  MrD
