I think it was terrible what they did to the old guy. Kinda reminds me of when I went into this place that caters to the mostly country music types, but I won't tell that story again.

This also reminds me of the time when I worked on a shipping dock loading trucks every night and another worker came to me asking me to comment to another about his personal hygiene.
This dude came to me and said.......Man, something needs to be said to so & so....I can't work around him.....he STINKS!!
And the reason I'm asking you to say something to him is because I think you are more friendly to him than the rest of us. You guys have worked here longer than most of us. I think he would understand better hearing it from you.
We were forced to work as teams during the night whether it was one of your buddies or not.

Myself, I knew where this complainer guy was coming from, but I never dreamed of telling the other worker he stunk. LOL
We weren't buddies really, just work associates, so this was an awkward request to an awkward situation, but I agreed to do it nonetheless.
I approached the situation as discreetly as possible, but that didn't matter, the stinky dude was still offended by my inquiry into whether or not he used deodorant or anti-perspirant daily.
I tried to explain as best as possible, and that others were going to go to management about it, so I was trying to same him some embarrassment, but, I ended up being the bad guy still.

Chances are, the kj in this situation ends up being the bad guy also, so trying to find the old man to explain your position is just to satisfy your own conscience really. I'd just let it go from here and chalk it up as......this is the type of venue that you are dealing with. When they finally get tired of you too, you'll just move on to another venue. But this kinda gives you some kind of advance warning as to how they treat their paying customers or employees, so it shouldn't be a surprise to you when the day comes.

Yes they can.  However depending on who this older man has on his side (in terms of witnesses), depending on his tenacity, willingness to spend money on a Civil Rights case (of Principle),  this is clearly a human rights violation, or (again assuming the patron has people to go to bat for him as witnesses) illegal age descrimination, since a person can be refused service for any reason EXCEPT for reasons that fall into human rights violations, and can show evidence of illegal discrimination.
Steve, to be refused service and asked to leave the premises of a paying place isn't a civil rights violation... they didn't LIKE him. It's a bar that frequents the twenty something range, and he didn't jive with them. Period. Again, I don't LIKE the choice made, but they have every legal right to do so.

This is what's wrong with too easy litigation.

Gee whiz, you hurt my little feelers, and now I'm gonna go SUE!

Give me a break. If I were THAT man, I'd find a bar that I'd feel comfortable in, and slam the HE!! outta them, the karaoke company that went along with it... give bad press to the situation to anybody that would listen to me. "Hey, avoid going into THAT bar... they are picky about who goes in there, who they serve, who sings there... if you're not one of the pretty people, you won't fit in with them!"

DOUBLE Sheesh!

I think there's something to be said for karma, isn't there.  All's well that ends well in this case. What a great resolution.  Glad you don't have egg on YOUR face.  :oh yeah:

That is great to hear!  This is a perfect example of why I try soooo hard not to 'burn bridges', you never know who someone is or who someone knows.  It can really come back to bite you, if you are not careful.  My 2nd Halloween party was this was last weekend, I find out at the end of the night, my 1st time there, the owner of the bar is the brother of a guy I did a festival back in July for.  I had several problems from this gentlemans wife, most notably...the check bounced, I had to really jump thru hoops to finally get the money after two weeks.  The thing is, I kept my professionalism and didn't let my emotions jump in and real start a fight.  Later on down the road.......it always comes back.  Everyone was happy, everyone wins!

Glad it turned out.  Glad the a-hole that 86'd him is fired as well, terrible people skills.
Like I said before, we are hired to allow people to sing - good or bad - it's karaoke, everyone gets treated the same!

betcha you are glad that you did not act on the request of the bar help for you to tell the guy he could not sing anymore.  LOL

I'm glad it turned out the way it did and that you shared the info with us.

I'm a very compassionate soul.  I don't let people make public fun of any of my old, ugly or challenged singers.  They have every right to be on my equipment as anyone else.  I open up my show to all (who respect it).   The ones I have a problem with are the disrespectful and rude.

I'm also a realist ... sex sells.  What would you rather watch?  Desperate Housewives or Golden Girls?  Who would you rather watch sing?  Sexy Blonde or Old Fart?

I feel for this guy and I'd welcome him to my show with open arms (figuratively).  I think whoever told him to take a hike needs sensitivity training.

I'd still take the sexy girl over the old guy anytime, though!!??

But you better hurry up and delete this thread, because you don't know if he's watching you here!! LMAO  LMAO

Seriously though....what a strange turn of events! LOL

I think it was cool too!

Maybe all people in the service industry will learn someday. :biggrinthumb:

fanTAStic news!! And I hate to say it, but karma IS a biyatch and it bit the rude bartender in the buttsky!

I DO agree with PC... aren't you glad you weren't the one to say something. To me, it's all about what FEELS right. That's how I ran the business  when I was in it. If it doesn't FEEL right, then it's WRONG! LOL! I hate to be so weird about it, but truly, that's how I did it. And to ttell some harmless old guy that he sucks and can't sing just smacks of WRONGness. Too funny that he was connected to the bar. I'm certain when the story was told it was "what the f***" response from the owners!

This is a lonely old guy.  Worse, it's a lonely old guy who doesn't drink and can't sing.  Tell him there is a problem and you just can't let him sing those songs anymore.  Then he can get a new act or get a new bar.  This will make him a lonelier old guy but that is not your problem.

Sorry Weed, gotta disagree on two points.    1)  As a human being, it is my problem, both in hurting the gentleman's feelings and doing the bar's dirty work.

                                                                    2)  As stated by another, the BAR has a problem with the guy, not the host. Therefore it is up to THEM to straighten it out.
