Lexicon MPX200 Multi FX

I went to another new show tonight that could have used that unit. They had lousy sound -- too-high mic level combined with terrible effects (or really lack thereof).

I guess I am spoiled -- my own system's sound is so good that most hosts sound seems poor in comparison. I have the Lexicon MPX200, and it blows away the effects I see at most shows.

I must confess, I have an MPX200 but I really didn't spend enough time with it to find its full potential. I have this real bad habit of picking up gear for a specific purpose and for what ever reason it doesn't work out for what I got it for it goes into my "I need to get back to this item someday" section. It seems someday never gets here for me. I do remember it had some nice verbs and a few other qualities, but it seems it was a little on the noisier side, which I have since learned that it needs to have space above and below it in the rack to help with this problem. I didn't have the extra spaces in my rack at the time. I do use another Lexicon though in my regular rack. I have the Lexicon MPX1 which I really like and an old Roland SDE1000 which in my opinion is one of the best delays ever made. What does your whole rig consist of? You know this site really could use a "Buy Sell & Swap" section so perhaps some of us pack rats could rotate our stock and maybe trade gear we don't use for gear we might.

Nothing real special, since I am an amateur:

  -- Behringer PMH3000 powered mixer
-- Behringer B212A mains with Peavey PR15 sub
  -- Behringer CX3400 crossover
  -- Behringer MDX1600 compressor
  -- Lexicon MPX200
-- Behringer Ultragraph dual 15-band EQ for monitor and mains
-- Samson Servo 120 power amp
  -- Kustom KPC10m floor monitor
  -- Shure SM58, Audix OM2, Senn. 945 wired mics
-- Senn. Freeport and AKG WMS40 wireless mics

Still, that modest setup, set properly, sounds great in comparison to most rigs I have seen. The Lexicon effects are just superior. People who have been to my parties and amateur shows tell me that my sound is excellent.

There is one -- we all it Ebay and Craigslist. 8-)

As long as it does what you need it to do thats all that matters.  How do you like those Behringer B212A's you have. I was thinking about getting one of those to use as a keyboard monitor for the stage. Is it holding up alright, enough power? The price is nice but I am concerned if it could hold up under some of the low frequencies I can generate out of an analog synth. I see you have the CX3400 crossover, is that a relatively new addition?

Work fine for me, with lots of power for my purposes, but they don't get daily use. Can't speak to the low frequencies.

I did meet a KJ out in the Poconos who had them in daily use as the mains at a couple of permanent shows. They are cheap enough that he just installs a pair when he gets the gig and leaves them there; it allows him to have no speaker loadout. He has no complaints.

Yes, I haven't used it much, but it provides the crossover for my new sub. It seems to do everything I need, though I am considering purchasing the BBE combined sonic maximizer / crossover.

It's tempting, something like that would be ideal for what I need to do, I see even the 215A is only 17 inches wide, that would be nice. I need to see if I can find out the spec on the dampening factor on the amp in that cabinet. If the speaker doesn't hold up I could just replace it with one of the  JBL or Black Widows that I already have.

I've used the BBE X3 crossover, They are built nice, and perform very well. I would highly recommend one for anybody needing a crossover. The only reason I quit using mine is that for configuration variations I go through for different applications I moved up to the DBX Driverack. If the Sonic Maximizer feature in the BBE X3 is used properly it can do amazing things for the clarity of your rig and enhancing the low end.
