Hi,

I am new here (first post) and I've enjoyed karaoke for years.  I have a lot of fun singing and am looking into starting my own business of hosting karaoke.  

I need a few suggestions for some upbeat songs that I can sing.  I have some slow ones that I sing well but I just don't have many upbeat ones, and I beleive that if I do decide to host I should have them down.  It seems like everytime I go to a karaoke show the host ALWAYS starts out with an upbeat popular song.

I am a 34 year old male (sounds like a dating site? haha) and I am a barritone.  Some of the slow ones I like to sing, are in my range, and am decent at are:

Don't Close Your Eyes - Keith Whitely
I Am... I Said... - Neil Diamond
All I Ask Of You - Phantom of the Opera
Somewhere Out There - Duet from An American Tale

These are the ones that are a little faster:

Live Like You Were Dying - Tim McGraw
Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond

Depends on what you are comfortable singing.  Also you want to kind of read your crowd & if possible see what they are putting up before your show starts, most nights i'll already have a few slips up on my table before we start so I can get an idea of what to start the show with.  You don't want to do an upbeat country if everyone is doing rock or vice versa.  If it's all hard rock you don't want to do a 50's tune (normally).  
I've done songs ranging from Stuck In THe Middle With You - Steelers Wheel
Twilight Zone - Golden Earring
Hemorage - Fuel
Bodies - Drowning Pool
Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Badfinger, Soul Asylum.  Completely depends on you, your capabilities on what you know & your crowd.

In our very country area, I have good luck with "Gone As A Girl Can Get", "Write This Down", and "Round About Way".

if its a country friendly enviornment I go with "save a horse" or "honky tonk badonkadonk"."six days on the road" by sawyer brown, is pretty good too. I can sometimes get away with "mony mony" if i do the tommy james version. I would have to figure out what to do with the key to do the idol version.  "I used to love her" by GNR is usually a good moderately upbeat tune, as is MR brownstone in a rock only venue."family tradition" usually goes over even with rockers, country bars will think your a god. lately I have been doing "futures so bright" by Timubk 3.  it has seemed to go over well in a variety of crowds. we are the same age so im guesing you remember it. the other great thing about it is NOBODY else puts it up so as a host I didnt just take one of my singers songs.

  The important thing is stick to something you know.

Though it's sort of an unusual niche that won't work with some crowds, some of those swing revival tunes are great for getting people up and dancing.  At least they have when I've done them, and most of the places don't even have dancing normally.  At least it seems to get everybody in a good mood.  Songs like "Jump, Jive and Wail," "Zoot Suit Riot," "You and Me and the Bottle Makes Three," and the rare but my personal favorite "Mr. Pinstripe Suit."

Baritone huh.  Wel, I'm on the opposite end of the scale so I sing mostly higher register stuff.  But here are a few suggestion....

Vehicle - Ides of March (I think you could sing this in a lower key/octive)
Can't Get Enough of Your Love - Barry White (I'm sure there are others by him).
Radar Love- Golden Earing

Some Billy Joel songs might work too.
- Piano Man.  Captain jack (although that's a bit risque/diry and dunno if its even on Karaoke).

I'm sure there are a few Motown songs that have lower parts too - Ain't to proud to beg,  Balll of Confusion.

Ok, how about Journey?  just kidding.

Thanks so much everyone!  I appreciate it!  There are a lot of great suggestions and with iTunes I can preview the ones I don't know to see if it might be a fit before spending a bunch of money on CDG's.

Kind of off subject, but don't buy discs for your personal taste, you may find you are going to be hosting shows that like genres other than what you may like.  Find out what your crowd/singers want then buy on their requests, it will save you from having a ton of coasters in the long run.
