Hi,
I just bought some clearance sets of songs and downloaded songlists for the sets. Some of the disks had a different style label and these did not have the artist printed on the disk with the songs. When I began to get the songlist numbered for my system I discovered that five Garth Brooks songs in the dowloaded list had been replaced on the CDGs by songs of other artists. These were also the disks that did not show the artist name on the disk. I read the thread a while back about Garth not wanting karaoke versions out. These sets were quite a bargin and the sonlist on the box is correct so I really can't complain but I found this to be a bit disturbing. The salesperson told me when I bought them that the manufactuer was closing them out because they had lost the rights to some of the songs. I asked if that meant that the sets would not be available anymore. The salesman said they would be offered again but some songs would be different. Two weeks later I was back in this same store and most of these sets were gone, real bargins go fast.

Garth has a new song out on the newest country releases on Star and PMH - "More than a Memory." Surprise surprise. I thought he was perma-ticked at karaoke too. Wonder what changed his mind.

Well he may not have, seems Star & the monthlies put out songs (although not so much PHM, THM is pretty famous for it) that aren't karaoke licensable.

Karen ,
I had heard that too. Anyway I got too many great new songs to worry about Garth. I am still working on updating my song list. I do the list in Quattro Pro but I was able to copy paste the list from all but one off a web site so I don't have to type in every song I just have to number them and change the names to last name first to match the rest of my list.

I havnt bought any Dixiie chicks forever they are not popular around here after their crap. I havnt had any requests for any of their stuff either If they are not singing their songs then they are not buying their cd's or wasting time downloading. In fact some here called local radio stations and complained if they were playing them. Somebody still kills Earl on a regular basis
It is the same with Garth He aint liked around here either. We are getting a young crowd and they are not singing this new crap They are singing the old classics whether it is country pop or whatever. People are tired of the crap and harrassment.

Dixie Chicks, they are still just as popular here, if not more so 'Not Ready To Make Nice' is done fairly regularly along with Earl & many others. Garth not so much anymore since he demands that his stuff only be sold at WalMart.

They may be hanging their hats on the court decision that said that sync rights aren't needed.....in which case they just have to pay their 30 cents a song per copy and away they go.

If the disks were made in England it may be legal for them to make the disks there
without approval if they do not use the artist's name in the advertising only the name of the song, similar in the way that any band can make a cover song of any other band (so long as they pay the standard royalty rate).
Like much in Kraoke there is a lot of "grey" when it comes to what is legal even a company making the disks legally in the UK may decide it is not worth the worries if a threatening letter is sent to them by the artist (Garth Brooks) in this case. Many karaoke comanies are small and the threat of legal action scares them even if they most likely will win the case.
As for changes in the song listing on disks, it is a common problem. SC does it a lot and there are many versions of some of their cds with different listings.
It is a major pain to verify all of the tracks on the CD are the same as what was advertised or in the CD database.

Another thing to consider is that is Garth the song writer? Remember, the copyright goes with the song writer, not the performer. I looked around and couldn't find the copyright for that song but if the song writer released the right to the song to karaoke, nothing Garth can do about it.

garth probably made the same type of decision about karaoke as he made about retirement.....again and again, and again, and.......
as for dixie chicks, even down here in Texas they still get lots of love in the karaoke world. i got asked last night if i had anything off of their new album. sadly i do not, yet.
