They are of the same Order; Rodentia. Squirrels belong to the Family Sciuridae and the rats and mice, Muridae.
Most squirrels are beautiful to look at, but rats are just pest. The giant squirrels are huge and 5ft long from head to tail tip. I have seen the giant spotted flying squrrel did a leap of more than 70 yds.

Nah, Rats are cool. They are smart animals and like to ring bells and play in mazes:LOL: (smart in terms of Rodentia which aren't known to be among one of the more intelligent class, yet some of the Carnivore class such as racoon and bear although crafty, IMHO aren't brilliant either) .. Just because people find them ugly, isn't their fault. I don't classify animals as less desirable based upon what I deem as "cute" or not. Some I just instead stay FAR away from realizing I'm not overly compatible with the species
OK, Time to get my sorry Gastropod head back to bed

squirrels, cut into serving pieces, amount depends upon how many you can eat
~ olive oil
~ 1 large onion
~ 1 large green bell pepper
~ 2 cloves garlic
~ Cajun spice (Tony Chachere's recommended)
~ 2 tbsp Tabasco sauce
~ 4 tbsp ketchup
~ 1 tbsp Gumbo File seasoning
~ cooked rice
In a deep pot or dutch oven, heat some olive oil.
Season the squirrel on all sides with the Cajun seasoning. Add to the hot oil and turn to brown on all sides. Continue to cook until done.
Place the onion, bell pepper and garlic in a blender. Cover with water and chop. Add to the pot when squirrel is done.
Sprinkle the added vegetables with Cajun seasoning.
Add the Tabasco sauce, ketchup and the Gumbo File. Stir to mix well.
Serve over the cooked rice.

Vickie that pic is cool. I know squirrels are known to carry rabies though. I would be a little leary to feed one. Your a brave soul.

Wow, I did not know that. Our critters over here like skunks, raccoons, squirrels etc.. all are suspect. If you get bit they run you to the hospital for a tetanus shot. No fun for sure.
