They have been giving away free food on Sundays at the bar. It is usually Chili, hotdogs etc... I think that is great, but when I come to work on Wednesday night there is dried food all over the space I use on the stage. By Wednesday the Chili spills are like cement to get off. I mentioned it to the manager and she said she'd say something to the person who is supposed tp clean up. Then it was even worse the next Wednesday. Now I'm fuming!

Should I just keep cleaning up the mess when I come in or make an issue of it?

This is such a touchy thing...I mean, it isn't your job to be cleaning that up, and it should not be unreasonable to expect that when you come in to do your job, your workspace is in the same condition it was when you left.  However, if it is WORSE when you come in after the manager says she'll talk to whoever is supposed to be cleaning it, that would make me feel like that person is now retaliating because you "told" on them.

See how it looks next time you go in.  If it's no better, maybe start taking pictures to document it...give it a couple weeks, and go to the manager with the pictures.

You're definitely not bein unreasonable.

You're not being unreasonable at all! The manager needs to be informed that conditions are worse. He/she may be under the assumption that the clean-up was taken care of.  Address the issue once more in a respectable manner. In fact, show the manager how unprofessional the stage area looks. Hopefully, this time the problem will be solved. Remember, persistence pays off!   :oh yeah:   :)

Babs years ago when bars had hard wood floors they would put baskets of peanuts out to munch on It was a tradition sometimes during the night there was a big peanut fight with everybody throwing peanuts. Everybody would tromp them across the floor Dance floor included and was the best polish job ever It shined and preserved many old floors..

Our bar has started putting out peanuts still in the hull in huge baskets and a small bucket on each table to put the hulls in. Last night I was singing and Dave was sitting about 20 feet away with his new girl friend. During the instrumental they werent paying any attention so I threw a peanut at Dave. His girl friend had a low cut blouse!! Yea it did!!!She jumped got a wierd expression Dave got a wierd expression and here was a peanut in her bra. They looked up at me I was laughing so hard I was crying. So they started throwing a few peanuts at me. At the end there was a few mashed peanuts on the floor which the sweeper had to clean up. When I go in sat I will find out who it was and give her a $5 tip. If it really gets carried away she will make a fortune.

I normally dont do small bars but in this one I talk to the owner and mngr and we plan success The problem of this thread would be solved in 2 minutes. No ifs ands or buts about it.

Thanks guys - I'm so glad I asked for your advice.

Next time I'm going to take pictures with my cell phone - easy enough. Then I'll show the manager what I've been dealing with.

I have a good repore with the manager. Once she sees it I think she'll understand my disgust.

CLEANING BILL $50  LMAO

Babs I do not know what state you work in You are defininitley not in Colorado. I have read about your problems in that little dive for 2 or 3 years and dealing with the drunks  We dont have any drunks anymore. I would not work in your bar period... Surely you must be exaterating all these problems I feel like coming to your town and knockin the the SH** out of your bosses. You need to come out to Greeley Lass..

make an annonymous call to the health dept and get them to do a spot check then you may find the cleaners do their job or get replaced

Karyoker - it isn't all that bad.  LMAO The owner remodeled the entire place inside and out. He's sunk an enormous amount into the place. As for fights, I seldom see them any more and when it appears one is starting it is stopped pretty quickly. I have an entirely different crowd now. I haven't needed a bouncer for over a year. I'm so glad those days are over. As for drunks - I'll always have a few of those. Regulars know I won't let them sing if they've had to much, so that has cut down quite a bit too. It's a bar people get drunk. That doesn't mean you have to be a jerk. As long as it is harmless fun I don't care how much someone drinks.

A huge part of it I think is setting a standard. People should respect their KJ and the crowd, if they don't there gone. Sometimes a newbie needs to be trained. Especially the young ones. I have had 20 somethings come in thinking they could swear, scream and be disrespectful on the mic. Then turn into rspectful adults because I won't allow it. I have a couple regulars that come to mind. One of them even refers to me as Ma'am now.  LMAO

dried food on the floor for 3 days ?   You mentioned to the manager and its worse??

Make a call to your local Health department - any place that serves food MUST keep it clean !!!!  Have them drop in and check out the place -- I;m sure the cleaning crew would be fired

No you are not being unreasonable. I agree with most here as it is a bar that serves food and it is their responsibility to clean up the mess following the "free food" night.
