Hi guys!

I am new to this forum and new to karaoke.  We purchased a SCDG player and are impatiently awaiting it's arrival.  I was wondering if anyone could tell me which brands of music are good?  I am eyeing this set of SCDG's from Nutech, but I heard that some brands aren't as good as others.  NE1 have any advise?

Thanks!

Well since the scdg isn't the standard nor do I ever really see it becoming the standard, NuTech (one of the worst quality manus but do have a handful of 'diamond in the rough' versions) is one of your only brands that make scdg.  I believe Chartbuster also makes them which they do AWESOME country, but their pop/rock is a little lacking.  There may be a couple others out there, I don't know.  You have to be more careful in handling these discs as well as they contain hundreds to thousands of songs so if you damage or scratch a disc, you could easily wipe out a large portion of your library.  CDG's are pretty much the standard, they contain anywhere from 5-15 songs, so if a disc gets ruined, you are only out a few songs.
Some of the best/most consistant companies
Sound Choice
Chartbuster - for country
Pop Hits Monthly
Top Hits Monthly
Zoom Entertainment - lots of UK titles available

Thanks, Lonman!  I appreciate the help.  Yeah, I was a little worried about the possibility of damaging the disc with such a large group of songs, too.  But, we purchased the USB player, so we can hook up an external drive...we just load them to the hard drive the first time and put the discs away.  if anything ever happens to the hard drive, we still have the discs for backup.  I think it will work ok, especially since it will just be at our house...we are not doing gigs, or anything.

So, it sounds like you wouldn't recommend the Nutech stuff?  I was tempted because it is 3 volumes for $199, so about 3600 songs for a great price (and a lot of the songs that I want, too).  I would be pretty much set for a while (until I started getting the bug for some more recent stuff!), but if it is not very good quality, I would be very disappointed.  I'll probably try something different.  Thanks again for the help!!

Personally no I would not recommend NuTech, however, as I said they do have a few 'diamond in the rough' versions that are as good or better than some of the quality companies.  For home use only, you may want to take the chance to get your new hobby started.  You will be able to select other versions & replace as you go along if you feel they aren't very good, but if you are used to versions you've sang in clubs, then chances are yes, you'd be very disappointed.  Right now I can't even find any company selling NuTech that have audio samples you could preview so you may have to make the determination yourself.  I run in clubs & what not & majority of the singers that have used NuTech songs have complained at some point that I had to replace versions if available.
