Hey all.....just found this forum and glad I did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Bunch of info here for sure.

I have been putting together a karaoke system for home use and I need your expertise help on this sound stuff....   I am really lacking in that dept.

Here are the 3 players in my question:

PV 900 amp
Alesis MultiMix 8USB
Audiophile 192

What would be the proper path to set up the record. Should I start at the PV900 out to the 192 line in.   Or should I be coming out of the Multimix either thru Crtl Rm Out or the 2 trk out (these are rca) I have gotten it to work a couple of ways....but what is the proper path.

Thanks

Faith

Interesting combination. You have a USB capable mixer so technically you don't need the 192. You could USB directly into your computer if you wanted to. On the other hand the 192 is a nice card so you could use it. So here's what I see, Using the card, go from the two jacks marked "Main Mix Out" into the input of the 192 card. The PV900 would just be for monitoring purposes, so if you were going to use the amp that would be connected to the "CNTR Room Out" jacks on the Alesis. That would be totally optional as you could monitor via your computer if you chose to. You could even use the PV900 on the outputs of the 192 also and monitor there. Like I mentioned you may want to just try the USB capabilities and see how that sounds. You do have a few options, I suggest you try them and see what gives you the best sound quality. You didn't mention what software you were using so thats about the best I can do with the info given.

Well thank you very much London Live for your time and consideration  :dancin:

At this point in time I am using an older version of the DEP that has the record feature.  I tried the usb route. The mixer came with Cubase LE and it involved an ASIO (something like that) driver. I never could get it to sound/work properly. I was a little disappointed to find that the usb only had the left and right in so only 2 mono trks.    Hopefully in the not too distant future I can got for a firewire interface. I said all that to say this....I am not interested in the usb at this point.
I also don't have the 192 yet....it's suppose to arrive this evening  :dancin:    I have always used the soundblaster stuff....so I am anxious to see how much of a difference the pro card will make.

Since I am not too far into the recording part ....I am taking note of all the comments. I downloaded Audacity last night to check out.  Then I already have Cubase. So I just need to jump in somewhere.   My needs/wants are small. I only want to record vocal on one trk music on another...........and maybe a 3rd trk on a duet with harmony or something. Purely for self entertainment.

I use to run the karaoke off a laptop. But since Hp has such horrific tech support...I have since had to build a rackmount computer to use instead. So I have a lot of new "chit" goin on and it's gettin' overwhelming.......but certainly fun and for sure a new learning experience.

Thanks Again London Live

Faith

Faith even the pros in recording studios will tell you its not the stuff you are using or how much it cost. Its a matter of learning how to use what you have.

PS Im 82 years old and figured out the right path yet!!! LMAO

Yes ASIO is a driver that is supposed to be faster than WDM/KS. You need a fairly fast computer to make it work properly with audio. When you tried ASIO did it record but the sound was distorted and a bit choppy sounding?

The asio driver is used with a sound card like M-Audio and others.  Consult your manual for the sound card for the proper driver and update to the latest drivers. I sometimes use a usb interface which uses the delta 44 in the system and have no problems.

Hello,

Sorry to abandon ya but I have been wrestling with my rackmount system I just installed a Audiophile 192 and now DEP is not interacting with Winamp like it should. It works ok on its own.....but not thru DEP. Never have gotten it to work so I am waiting on word from Paul. Heck I thought I was gonna plug that baby in and stand in awe and how much better it sounded. I hopefully will be up and running soon.

London Live ....I really can't remember the issues I had with the USB and the ASIO driver. All I know is that the sound if I got any was not great...maybe like it was in a well....and I couldn't seem to separate the 2 tracks. At the time I was just glad to get to the down and dirty quick recording with DEP. Were you going to mention the latency thing?

Karyoker .....I think I love you!!!!!! How nice is it that you are still at it and having fun :worship:  :worship:   Thanks for the words of wisdom. I am really wanting to focus a little more and pick out a program to master.  I may be pullin' your ear in the future.

Thanks for the responses

Faith

Actually I was just curious if you had tried the WDM/KS or MME drivers to see if your audio improved. I recall having trouble with ASIO drivers in a configuration where I was using a lexicon Omega to interface into USB. I don't remember what it was I was doing but I do recall switching to the MME drivers and the audio cleared up nicely. As far as having trouble with your 192, did your computer come with a soundcard on the motherboard? You might have a conflict, check in Device Manager. I have Cubase, but I have far more experience using Sonar, so I can't be a lot of help there. I do use Audacity for small projects and find it easy to use with good sound quality.
