Man I couldn't hit any of the high notes in my voice lesson today.  Some of them weren't even high.  The voice teacher asked me what was wrong and I was like I don't know.  Anybody had a similiar experience to me?  I can't think of any reason other than maybe I was a little tense.  This isn't the first time it has happened. Any tips?

I'm a guy BTW

I would think a vocal instructor based upon watching you would have these answers. Maybe not.  The instructor I'd think would be able to tell if there's tension, or lack of energy, if the problem was posture related, but I don't know.. If your instructor doesn't know who knows...  Perhaps we all have off days ???  Dunno

We definitely all have our off days.  If it was during a lesson, your teacher should have some idea as to the cause. Difficulty with high notes is usually a mental block or a tension thing.  Or maybe you ar coming down with a cold?

Well, that explains it.

KIDDING.. LOL

I used to go to a great vocal teacher. During the 30 minute drive to her home I would pop in a cassette tape that she recorded for me using scales on the piano. I would warm up all the way to her house. By the time I got there I was ready. Sometimes nerves or stress can cause us to clam up. When I’m nervous or stressed my voice is the first thing to go.

What OperaKitty said makes great sense. Could very likely be a mental block.

Agree~ Your vocal teacher should be able to figure it all out for you.

Ok, you got me curious now. When you say you couldn't hit any of the high notes just how high is high? Are these notes you would normally hit in what I call a "straight" voice or are these notes you use a falsetto to achieve?
