XX As a kid one of my jobs was go out and kill a chicken for Sun dinner. I have butchered all kinds including moose. I know what it is to live in a house trailer with cockroaches that want to carry your stove off..
But certain insects and spiders I have a natural bond with and they know it. I can go into the woods and they talk to me.. And protect me. People now are so far away from their natural beginning it frightens me There is a bear problem now with bears coming into town here in co. We never used to have that problem because big brother has everybody convinced that they are responsible for your protection.. You cant even light a fire cracker!!!
And you wonder why I hate liberals? After they moved here and passed all their laws because they were anti hunters and gun control nuts we have problems Oh but they have the solution now $1000 fine for not having your trash can under lock and key.. Ya know these generations now that their entire philosophy is based upon tv cartoons and not from parents and grand parents absollutely scare them hell out of me...

I have nightmares at least 3X a week about snakes. I won't take many paths around here because I'm terrified I'll see one. Last thing I'd ever do however is to kill one unless it bit me..
WHY, should something die because of my "phobia" ? Not the snakes fault. Yeah, I know I'm not perfect, I eat foods I shouldn't eat given my beliefs, If I don't NEED to eat something that requires an animal being killed, I don;t believe I should.. So while I don't preach and condemn those that kill (given my own hypocracy eating foods I shouldn't eat according to my beliefs), I try to not kill because of my own "fear" especially. Believe me, I've tried desensitization to get over my fear of snakes, have even worked with them but I can't get over my fear.. I can hold one... Put that same snake on the ground. and when it slithers around I freak.. I can't figure it out. Point being..What gives me the right to take a life that hasn't wronged me ?
JMO...
Yeah those camel spiders are big...but still, because they are ugly they should die ?
I guess I try hard to remind myself this stuff by yacking about it.. If an animal is a danger to me, and I can't avoid it.. that's one thing. I guess whatever created living stuff decided that a gnat has a life cycle too.. Not sure I should view the life of a critter I can identify with more easily as having more "right" to stay alive based on my own level of attachment or similary detachment

I here ya - It is funny how people will freak out over a rat, but have no problem with squirrels. Squirrels are just rats with cute tails if you think about it. No reason to kill something because it's ugly.

That is why i say (jokingly) i'm a contract killer. as far as i'm concered, animals just do what they do. they don't give a rat's a$s about us or what we do until we infringe on their environment. i have no problem coexisting with anything, invertabrate, vertabrate, venemous or harmless. The fact that i make my living by killing other creatures doesn't mean i do not care about the environment and the creatures that inhabit our world. in fact, more often than not my company practices what is known as IPM-Intergrated Pest Management. Basically IPM means changing the environment around your home and taking away the habitat the little buggers live in. Less chemical does not equal less effective!

very touchy subject. co-existence with a predatory animal is not an option, obviously, but as populations grow something has to give. i kind of have mixed feelings about it. i feel "survival of the fittest" is usually a good rule. whoever can dominate the other, be it man versus man or species versus species, should win out. that being said, i think killing an animal for doing what nature has taught it to do isn't neccisarily a good thing either. (one caveat-i HATE coyotes because i have lost too many good dogs to them. the only purpose they serve is keeping the rabbit population under control. i will hunt them and kill them just for the hell of it.) back to the topic at hand--
while it's not nearly the same situation since no one is in danger, there is an overpopulation of dear in urban communities here. authorities have begun trapping and "relocating" a few of them because they cannot survive on the sustanence that the land (and homeowners who keep replaniting gardens) provide. relocating is in quotes because i know a few of the folks who are a part of this program and have been told that the deer go to ranches to be raised for food for the needy. back to the bears -- you can't "relocate" them since as far as i konw not too many folks eat bear. zoos generally won't take a bear from the wild unless it is an abandoned cub. what's left? probably hunting.
the answer to your question - i think it is already being done. if not it was talked about letting hunters buy lottery tickets for special hunts. the parks would be closed to the public for a period of time in which the hunters who had their tickets drawn pay a large fee to hunt one bear. (there a more stipulations, but i really don't feel like getting into that now) the money raised is used to improve the parks, to educate the public and increase forrestry service staff.

Here’s something I came upon last month. It’s a picture of the largest spider web ever witnessed.
It’s in Lake Tawakoni State Park, Texas. Entomologists say that the spider population was extra bountiful due to heavy rainfall and they (the spiders) displayed a behavior never seen before, cooperation. Normally, spiders are competitive enemies, choosing to work individually on their own webs. The web took over a month to build. It’s been blown down several times and re-spun each time.
Amazing.
