I have been using Esnips for storing/sharing song and photo files.  I recently uploaded some new songs I had recorded into a private folder and sent an email invitation to a friend to listen/download.  Friend reported that no sound could be heard when trying to play the files, and when trying to download the files, it was ttaking forever.    I decided to check it out yesterday and logged into my Esnips account.

When I tried to listen to one of the songs, it started to play and then immediately crashed out with a virus alert indicating spyware and a trojan!

I am using a library computer and did not get to see the result of trying to get rid of the indicated nasties, but I will be deleting my Esnips account and not going back there!  I have never had a problem like this while using the library computers before.

Just thought i'd give you all a bit o' warning about that site!

That's good info Murrlyn..... thanks for sharing. I know TONS of people here use Esnips to store their songs.

Yikes- is no site safe any more?

Murrlyn, the same thing happened to me the other day...I went to listen to a friends song, it started to play, then stopped and all kinds of crap started popping up on my screen...I saw the word spyware and just hit the reset on my PC, After restarted it, I did all kinds of scans but didn't pick up anything serious. I don't think I'll be going back there any time soon either. I have an account but never loaded anything into it so no big loss if I delete it LOL.

I sent a message to the tech support at Esnips regarding this and have not received anything back.  Gotta love their customer service....  I asked for their feedback on my incident and so far have not recieved anything back.  Guess they just don't care, especially as I also stated that I would be terminating my account and notifying everyone that I knew had an account there to do the same!

There is a big discussion going on about this problem in the forum over there. The Community Manager has finally made a reply in there. Just thought I would mention it in case anyone is interested. ~Lena

You make a good point JD, but it seems I'm not the only one to have experienced this, reading the other posts above.  As I said, esnips is the only site that has given a problem while I've been using the library PCs... woudn't you think if it was the library PC causing the problem that there'd be a lot more sites affected, icluding this one?   I have to say that the library server has got pretty good virus protection and is probably just as safe as (if not safer to use than) many home pcs.
