I am looking for some type of rotation mgr for winamp. I went to their site and did a search for rotation. All I found was the autokdj that we have been using at the house. Is there something else out there that does not require the singers to use a terminal, as we are not at that point yet.

And I am getting confused as to what song belongs to what person, even though I put them in in order. I am constantly looking back at the slips to find out who is up next and I want to be able to see that Johnny is singing "The Streak" next so I can make sure I don't screw up.

Thanks,

Sharon

Isis I would really recommend something like Roxbox. We have slips with 4 more songs on the back but a single slip once it is entered goes into the discard pile. We prefer multiple songs on the slips and our singers are preferring it that way too. If I could convince Frank to include multiple entries for each singer I would be happy.

It took some getting used to and concentration but now I rely on the computer for rotation and not the slips in order on the table. It is archaic and we even take verbal requests with no problem. All we need is the name of the song and can have it playing in a few seconds. Our format would be hard to do with Winamp although there are plugins to fade from one player to the other (2 Winamps )..

I manually create my singer's screens... I have three bitmaps on my desktop and use one of them per singer. In fact, some of my regulars got a bit miffed that THEY wanted stars on their names (one of the Fonts I use does that for the "i"s and inside the Capital letters that are open, like D, R, etc...)...

I manually save the file again.
then import it into karaoke builder, create the screen. Save it as a .bin file, and use mp3toolz to convert it to mp3+g, naming it the singer's name...

Image

I then save these files in a folder on my desktop called "singers".

Then I can right click on and enqueue it into my winamp... Bingo, instant rotation management!

Granted, it's a bit of work... initially. THEN it's great customer service for the next round and the next night, having the file already made... As they take up little to no space, I have NO problems taking up a bit of C drive space doing this.

I should have probably mentioned that the computer is running with Vista.. Arrg!!!  So we are kinda limited as to what programs are compatible.

What you need is AutOKJ. It is not just a plugin but a hosting program that use Winamp as the player. Gotto their site and download it:

http://www.autokdj.com/.

I have tried it at home and its easy to use. And its free.

Thanks!!!  I chatted with Meep70 and he is going to come over and help me install autokdj and show me how to run it..

You guys are so very awesome!!!  I know just enough about this to be dangerous and little enough to still have a bunch of questions.....

I guess I was under the impression AutoKDJ wouldn't work with Vista, but I had that conversation a long time before we started running the show. I really like the AutoKDJ, and when we go to the kiosk for song lookup, I want to try to connect a scanner and assigning a barcode to each singer so they don't have to type in anything. Gotta play with it at home like Sharon says--and Meep70 is our guy for that!!!

vista has a lot of problems with OLDER software.

I wouldn't dream of using a vista machine in a show. I'd personally buy one that had XP on it...

You guys should be able to set up a dual boot/partition system at the very least!

HELP!!!  HELP!!!  We installed the autokdj plug in and I was using it during the show tonight when all of a sudden the box where you put in the new singers name and the box to choose an existing singer both grayed out and it would not let me do anything with those areas..   It kinda messed me up for a few minutes.. Thank goodness I had the rotation in already.. I don't think I hit any weird combination of keys or anything.. But who knows??

Can someone tell me what to do if this happens again?? Or is this perhaps a bug that I need to report...

I would suggest that you get a computer with XP or even '98 to do you shows until the Vista development folk get their heads out of their collective donkey.

Larger programming companies might be able to afford to keep up with Microflacid but I'm about mad enough to port to Linux.   I get about 20 e-mails a week saying that one of my applications won't run on Vista.  What can I do but write back and say, "you're right, it won't."

I don't think winamp IS completely compatible with vista...

I tend to agree... get win98 or win2000pro, and run it on that machine!

You DON'T need a lot of bells and whistles to do karaoke on a computer.

CHUCK... Help 'em out, bro!!!

Matt, I sure wish I could be of help in this. I'll have to hand this one over to Meep70. He has years of experience with this sort of thing, even though Vista is new.

When the owner bought the computer he was not given the option of an older OS, Vista was forced on him.

I like exweedfarmer's idea of using Linux but I could not advize on a change like that. Linux is over my head.

Here's the deal, guys--it ain't our computer. It belongs to the venue. And we are making some SWEEPING changes already--if we can avoid telling the owner that the PC is inadequate, we are going to. Once we figured out how to get it to boot up in less than 15 minutes (it takes less than two minutes, now) it hasn't been too bad.

I am surfing the Autokdj site right now for information. Meep70 mentioned something about having to reboot, so I was afraid something might hang. I was just hoping it might happen on a night when Isis and I were both there. Adversity is much easier to deal with when you have the numbers behind you.

VIsta was FORCED on them? musta been some Walmart package deal.

God above us!! The sheer times I have to deal with "well, THEY bought this and said to make it work!"

PUH-LEASE!!!!!

well, I'm scouring the winamp site, but I gotta tell you, maybe you'd be better off uninstalling the winamp on it, and reinstalling an OLDER version... maybe that will work!

I have the download if you need it.

They had a Vista flurry on the rox forum for awhile and I think some did have to go back to older winamps but as far as I know Frank has all the Vista problems solved for Roxbox

That sounds like you had the close option set. AutoKDJ has set up to close down song input if it has reached the threshhold set before the show starts.  If you don't want it to work that way go into the config buttons underneath the media library area where you select the songs and then click the section for karaoke.  At the top there should be a box that says never close and click this on. close out the setup screen and you shouldn't have that issue again.

Thank you DannyG!!! That is exactly was I needed. I am sure that was the issue.  I will be adjusting that.
