You already have ALL you need for live recording. What you need to do is rewire the set up.
This is how I will do it:

Player: (input of music) to stereo channel of your mixer.
Mic: into one of the mono channel.
Mix to taste; eq both music and vox, set music level right, set mic level right, add effect.

Output from the mixer (record out. tape out or line out) into line in (soundcard input)of your computer.

Record with CEP. Just make sure you select line in as recording input in your recording program.

Hope that help.

The last time I checked, cd and dvd recorders were digital recording devices.... LOL .....they can record from a digital or an analog source. They can use a write only or a re-writable cd, but you might have to use a music digital cd rather than a data cd. They are a little more expensive. A sony double deck cd recorder can be had for 230 to 300 bucks.....don't know if there are any single decks, and what other brands may be available....you got lots of time if your on here.....google off that little a$$ of yours, you laz.....just kidding.....  :worship:

Haha, actually, you got that about right;)

Hiya Jian... thank you for the info my friend. I'm gonna see what I can do, maybe mess with what I have a bit this weekend.

Yep, listen to Jian

Even if he steals my Oregon Gal, he is correct.

Charmin, why do you ignore how you look and worry instead about how you sound?

Is it because I already told you that you were beautiful?

Well, isn't that a comment meant to just confuse the hell out of someone. Forget it, I'm not taking the bait Mister Stewart;) You're trying to get me riled....   .... Besides, I think my current avatar is pretty daym hot.

And Jian gave a good description... of recording myself live- to a pc:

Quote:

I want to be able to record without my pc having anything to do with it. Not just subs for here, I mean.. I probably would sub something from live recording once in a while, but truthfully I rarely ever sub in SS anymore.. but there's other times I'd like to get stuff recorded while using my mixer. So- I need to purchase something to do it with.

But, I have been planning to try something like Jian mentioned as well... just to see what I think.

Sounds like a CD recorder or Minidisc deck is the way to go if you really don't want to use your computer except to upload a file to SS.  Too bad I just sold my Minidisc deck.  LOL  I still have the portable one, but a deck would have been easier to work with.

Try it out first before you go out and spend some money on some digital recorder.
The good thing about using the pc for recording (be it live or not) is that you already have all you need. and even when you have to record to some thing non PC the tracks will end up being loaded in to the PC HD.

Hi Keith.......  :handshake:

I know what you mean Jian... I DO have everything I need to record live to my PC, I've thought often of trying it. But, for other reasons besides "recording songs for SS", I'd like to be able to record stuff live.

Just a thought I got stuck in my head... and I'm pretty stubborn... when I want something, I go get it, or die trying;)

And besides, it wont break the bank for me to get one, from what I've seen I can get one fairly reasonable. And really, it's something that wouldn't sit idle much at my house. I'd use it quite a bit, as most likely would my kids and other family members who come over to play music and sing.

That doesn't mean I'm not grateful for your advice... that's not what I meant at all... I just meant, I've got to get something to record without relying on my computer and CEP.

Have a look at this 2-track recorder:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=702520

If you can afford it that is the one I will go for.

And here is a page that may help you decide

Just hook your mixer RCA LINE out jacks into the puters LINE-IN jacks or if your using a karaoke machine just hook it up to the line-in jacks and your ready to go.  Thats what I did with the band when we were making a test recording at my house. They brought a small peavey mixer and mic'd up the bass and harmonica and me singing and then adjusted the levels on the board and then we simply recorded it to the puter. We first played each instrument thru the puter to find its best sound and recorded them indivuulaly then did them all together. I still have the recording. Its only about 1/2 of a complete song but it was a live band recording--my first! On the putr I used AUDACITY for the software which has all kinds of features and its a free DL to get it. Then just saved it as a WMA to the puters HD and then could load it back up and manipulate it or add aditional instruments playing to it and resave it---then make a burn of the finished preoduct. Thats how I make all my karaoke recordings for SS and of my originals for demo discs.

Real simple......EVEN A CHARM' COULD FIGURE IT OUT!!!

:D
