Suggestions please!!!!  The critter club i'm at, has four TV's. They have been working great, not a problem. I use my 17" flat screen for the singer, and my own 5" monitor at my station. The club just informed me, they have purchased 4 new HD wide screen sets for the club, to replace the older ones that are there now. They have also informed me, some idiot told them that karaoke signals will damage these new plasma sets. So i will be down to one older wide screen junk set for the whole club!!! What can i tell the club committee to convince them that karaoke signals won't ruin their new sets? I am on the verge of telling them to stick it.

I can't imagine that's true. The data that comes across is only a few colors (basically the old CGA type of graphics!)...

If your friend gives you verifiable information, then fine! But I think he's full of malarky!

Burn in is real, even though there are things you can do to help. A lot depends on the particular manufacturer, some actually incorporate safeguards. I've attached a link to help give you an idea what its all about.

Is the Karaoke signal adjustable to 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio ?  Problem is plasma is phospher and uneven use, brightness, and stationary images burn in fastest on these sets.  They also supposedly burn out quicker than any other set. I'd think margins from a standard 4:3 image on a 16:9 aspect ratio wide screen would be a great source of quick burn-in.  I'm researching a flat big screen that's super thin and preferably wall mountable but was advised against Plasma because it runs into prob. Depending on how you can adjust the Karaoke video box size standard 4:3 viewable screen projected onto plasma 16:9 wide format will shadow the screen. It can't be healthy for ANY wide aspect ratio set.  Plasma sets supposedly don't give spectacular images from standard signals, and don't last as long as other makes of televisions. I believe they are coming down in price too because they do yield little for the buck with the exception of being picture frame flat for wall mount, and very light, but that gas bubble technology plasma has isn't worth it IMHO.. those little pixels of gas burn out supposedly pretty quicky.  The sets are costly, and after a few months of heavy use are prone to display burnin and shadowing. Not my idea of a good investement personally.

The first 200 hours is the most susceptible time for burn in, and there are many things that can cause this, even the steady showing of a sports score, or the tv menu. They (PTs) haven't been around long enough for all the facts to be evident, but if burn in does occur, or anything goes wrong with the PTs.....the karaoke guy is going to get the blame......I'd leave it alone for now, until more information, rather than speculation is out there. DLP should be OK, but I don't think you'd want to leave yourself open for blame, if any little thing isn't quite right with the PTvs, even if karaoke isn't to blame. It's in the owner's head, that karaoke will cause this, so no matter what, you will be blamed......good luck

I'm glad i have you guys around to help me with all this new tech crap. I guess i better stick to what they give me to use. Thanks so so much for the heads up. I wouldn't want to hurt their new sets. I personally didn't see anything wrong with the old ones. Glad i asked.

burn in IS real, but that's a steady image, like the LOTTO and the like. The older tvs are susceptable to it. LCDs too... ANY video image CAN and WILL get burn in with a steady input.

An input that doesn't change!

That's just not the case with a karaoke screen of moving images, unless you have a logo that is on there all the time uninterrupted. I'll admit I've been to shows and mentioned that to them... that they don't want to be responsible for a potential burn in situation...

but a normal window with continuing moving graphics?? no way!

A kJ friend of mine had the same problem....He uses a couple of his own small flat screen PC monitors and places them stratigically near the mic on a pedistal....He says it's worked better for him than using the clubs screens.....

My system goes to "Blue" screen between singers, no logos, no steady feed. I'm getting confused here guys, and for me, i was born confused? I use a 17" LCD flat screen monitor on the singers stand..ok? it's mine..never..........had a burn in problem in the past 3 years with this little Sony tv...I have a little 5" LCD monitor i got from Markertek for my own use at the kj stand, had it for about 5 or 6 years. NO BURN IN PROBLEMS. Now comes along these "Plasmas'. I guess these things are different. I'm ready to tell them to stick there tv's. Just let me use the old one, they can listen to the gripes.  :need hug:
