To record for SS (or do any recordings at all) I'm still using multi track with a small mixer and CEP.
If I want to be able to record live while I'm singing on my karaoke (NOT the computer, but my actual setup)... what do I need?
I've been to a couple places where the KJ had something hooked up to her system, she could record every song I sang, then hand me a cd at the end of the night. What kind of "something" is that?
Cause I'd like to try recording live... I think (no... I know) that you lose a bit of the song appeal when you multi track, cause you generally sing it more than one time, and get nit picky, and in the process lose the original feel for the song. (in my opinion anyhow) I'd like to hear the difference it I just sing it, and be done, and not have the OPTION to play with FX and stuff.
So, what to buy? (and how to hook it up?) And I do NOT want to record "live" onto my PC, I want to record directly on to one of those doohickies that you can burn a cd right away.
Oh yeah... karaoke is an RSQ triple tray and mixer is a (holy hell, I think...) a Behringer Europower PMH2000. (i think that's what it's called)

I use a cd recording deck, or you could use a dvd recorder too. You could use a cassette tape deck. I don't even know how to record with my puter.....duuuh

What Goldie and Rich have is just a separate, stand alone CD recorder and they run and line out connection from their mixer to the CD recorder. You could also just run a line out from your Behringer powered mixer to your computer and record the karaoke track as it plays on your RSQ and your live vocal.

It's got to be a cd burner thingee majig. So, a "cd recording deck"? That gives me something to google. It's hard to look for something when you don't know WHAT you're looking for. :drunk: Quote: What Goldie and Rich have is just a separate, stand alone CD recorder and they run and line out connection from their mixer to the CD recorder. Well, whatever Goldie has, it doesn't burn directly to a cd. Cause the times I DID get a cd there, she'd ask me what songs I wanted on it. She'd let me hear a clip of each, then hand me a cd with only the songs I chose. So, something is holding the recordings without actually burning them onto a cd until she chooses to. What Rich had... I think may have been different. But it's been so long since he did that, I dunno... I never asked him. Odie..... I don't wanna record to my PC. That would be putting it into CEP... and give me opportunity to "play with it". I want it to record onto something so that it's burned on a cd, and never has to hit my hard drive at all. (unless... I choose to sub it or something)
And for crise sake, WHERE is my return email? Use my work one only, I'm not keeping the others open:)

If you get a CD recorder, make sure it records onto rewritable CD's, CD-RW's. You're liable to burn through a lot of blank CD's otherwise if you're not happy with the recording.

Ah, you know me too well Odie;)
Yes sir, I'll look for one that records to CDRW's... Don't need smashed, stomped cd's littering my music room. LOL

![lol lol](./images/smilies/emot-LOL.gif) @8 track...
You CAN use your computer to record... If you're using the usb sound device that I think you have for playing the files and outputting them to the mixer, you can also go preamp back to the rca connection... you can record just using microsoft's "sound recorder"... it'll record as a .wav file, and then you can convert it to .mp3.
BUT understand I've only done this once, and it was a pain in the buttsky.
I personally recommend a digital recorder rather than a cd recorder.
I'll see if I can find something I can recommend like that.

Well, it's a wee bit confusing, cause I have 2 recording setups. Both of them I use a mixer (small non powered Behringer) and the same mic and CEP... just different sound cards. My laptop has that external one I mentioned in that other thread. (that I'm too lazy to dig up) My desktop has the soundblaster live that came in the PC when I bought it.
I don't want to record to a computer though... I want to record it onto cds.... but be able to listen to them BEFORE I burn them.
(am I wanting the impossible? somehow, this is what the lady at karaoke did... and she had NO computer there, of this i'm positive... but she's quit at that place now, and so i can't ask her again what she used)
Oh wait, she is on my (other) MySpace page.... maybe I can still contact her that way:)
And Mattie, when you talk technical... it's SO over my head. You gotta break things down to baby talk for me.

the thing I like about going to a digital recorder is you can do it all digitally, and never burn a disc. Now granted, they're pretty cheap, but I'd rather delete the file than fill up my trash bin with all those silver thingies!
(that too techie for ya? heheheh)
I was on ebay, and saw some mp3 players... some fairly cheap that might be able to do the recording via a usb cable... still lookin' for ya hun!

(that too techie for ya? heheheh) No... that's perfect language for me. I totally understand what "thingies" are:) Quote: I was on ebay, and saw some mp3 players... some fairly cheap that might be able to do the recording via a usb cable... still lookin' for ya hun!
Thank you for taking the time to look Matt. Odie found something too... so next I guess will be the decision of what to get. (like I'm gonna know... it'll be a gamble for me one way or the other... long as it's not too 'spensive... it's all good)

Let me back track a bit here Charmin. Do you have to have your live karaoke recordings on CD? I mean are you planning on keeping and playing these CD's several times? Or are you just trying to figure out a way to store your recordings until you can sub them?

No backtracking allowed!! My mind changes too often;)
I don't freakin' know.... I just want to record live. And not have it be through a wimpy PC soundcard, that's all....

So you want to be able to play your recordings several times in the future through a good sound system and not just get them up onto SS and then forget about them.

Errr.... no. Actually, I would most likely still be "done" with them once they were subbed. Silly guy, YOU save my songs, I sure don't.... you know that.
I just want to record... live... as if recorded you know, "live".
No computers, no FX added after I sing, no changing volume levels and all that silly stuff....... just record myself as it comes out. (which, in reality, could be scary, Lol)
I guess I just want to compare. It would be SO much easier to just sing it and be DONE with it.... and like I told you via email... I wouldn't have to wait for "quiet time" at the house to record. Cause I can drown out background noise if need be;)
