I have standardized to SM58's in all my systems. I have 3 PGX4 SM58 Wireless mics and 4 SM58 wired mics. The quality of the vocals is excellent and the cost is very reasonable. They are also very rugged units. I love the infrared sync for transmitter and receiver link up. It also makes running multiple wireless systems a snap.
My only complaint is the handheld battery clip on the wireless is really flimsy and needs to be handled carefully as it will break. It is very cumbersome trying to remove the AA batteries without breaking the clip. It does not facilitate quick change of batteries.
I'm sold on Shures quality vs money invested, it's hard t beat.

wish they were reasonably priced here, one cordless shure unit cost $799 or the beta is $1099

Martina performed across the lake from me at "Country Music Fest USA" in June. Absolutely fabulous. They had Little Texas, Blackhawk, Clint Black, Tracy Lawrence, and Travis Tritt. All people could talk about was how great Martina was.

Those who use wired SM58, do you prefer the one with the switch or the one without it?
I don't like switch on the mic. it confused a lot of singers.

prefer no switch...Neither of my sm58s have switches but when I bought the new evolution mic they had no non switch in stock and its a pia.

I simply don't see the point of switches for karaoke....they do nothing but cause restarts.

From what I've heard. (Don't know firsthand). You pay $100 more for a microphone that doesn't sound as good for most singers purposes. The sound coloration just isn't as favorable according to many pop singers compared with the SM-58 or 57

We use nothing but SM58s - we have 2 cordless and 8 corded. The switch issue is a pain - I ended up sending one of my cordless back to Shure because people couldn't leave the darn switch alone and the mic would just drop out now and then. Now I use corded Shures at those shows and save the cordless for the more "mature" venues (translation: Not drunks). I sent the mic back to Shure who repaired the switch for $75 - what they did was send what was essentially a new mic to me. Totally worth going with a company like Shure. For our live stuff, we have used AUDIX mics previously - they're about the same price and actually are a pretty decent mic, but I always go back to the 58. Nothing worse than going to a show where they use garbage $20 mics.

NO switches..they are a huge pia! The first two mics I had had switches.....people won't quit playing with them. It's bad enough when I get a tap/tap/tap.....when a new person comes in, that drives me apeshyt. I usually don't mute the mics, but I do pull the faders down, almost everytime. IMO Swithes=Bad....I hate them!!!

I find people do the tap thing with or without switches. I prefer no switch myself. People tend to hit it off while they are singing. I also had people get frustrated with not knowing to switch it on after the person before them turned it off which causes me to constantly have to go over and show them how to turn it on. :D

No switch. People tend to play with it & turn it off when they leave while the next singer forgets or doesn't know to turn it back on.
I think kj's use them to 'mute' the dead mic, but that can be done from the mixer either by the actual mute button or turning down that channel.
