Just curious because I've never heard this discussed -

KJs - do you announce anything referring to tipping the bartenders?

I don't ask for tips for myself or the bartenders. I feel that if people are going to tip they will and no amount of asking will change that. For me it is nice if it happens, but I don't feel the need to beg. As for the bartenders getting tipped I'd hope that would be obvious.

I have heard KJs who will maybe mention the barstaff in their banter and say something about making sure to "take care" of them.  I don't think I've ever really heard them say "Be sure to tip your bartender/waiter/whatever" though.

Depends on thee bartender Some do some dont. The bartender and KJ should be a team each knowing whats going on The bartender can warn you if the sound is too loud They are dealing with the public more and can signal the KJ if its working or not. They are usually the one that gets the complaint or comment about the show. A smile or frown after a time can mean everything. Same goes with the manager.

Anybody who works in a bar or even those there not drinking should be aware of whats going on. The staff and with my bar experience  Im concentrating on the show but always looking to spot trouble before it starts.

Fights
Possible drug dealings
over-intoxication and or lude behavior

I usually remind the crowd to "take care" of your bartender and servers and let them know you "appreciate" them.  I personally tip our bartender at the end of each night.  Mine and my wife's drinks are free.  I might have only three drinks over a period of 6  1/2 hours.  I get there about 7:30 and set up, start at 8:30 and may not quit till 2.  I get paid to stay til one.  If we do go to two then I get an extra $50.  The owner let's the bartender and I make the decision to go that extra hour or not.  Usually based on how the "till" is ringing.

I don't ask for tips for myself nor do I put out a tip jar.  I do have a regular who tips me a ten every night when he leaves.  And once in a while I get a few tips from "people passing through."

I use the 'take care of' line instead of tip your servers - will call them out by name about every half hour or so.  May throw in a little blurb 'leave a little something on the table besides your mess'.

Of my two regular hangouts.... One place, she reminds people every night to "tip the bartenders", the other place, I can't recall if I've EVER heard them say anything of the sort.

I sure would, if I were the KJ.

And what's the difference between the two? By saying "Take Care of your Bartender..." you ARE syaing "Make sure you TIP them."

As for me, I always make a periodic announcement (usually about 2 hours into my show), saying "Make sure you take care of your Bartender" (or I say the Bartender's name), "They've been working real hard for you."

As long as you don't tip the bartenders and waitresses too far they are usually pretty happy.. I have seen when they were tipped too far and they got pretty mad about falling down!!!  LOL

Yeah, I always say "take care of your bartender". As was earlier mentioned, it does work as a partnership with you looking out for each other. And it does help when you & your crowd want to hang out longer..LOL But I was amazed to find out that the bartenders make more in tips on Karaoke night than on Band nights....At least at the bar where I worked.. But I have heard the same at other bars...

Exactly.  Maybe it's just semantics, but there is a difference in how it comes across.

Entertainers always stated (it's practically ritual, or at least was)

Thank You,  Drive safely,  If you are feeling tipsy don't drive, instead call a cab or ask a friend for a ride, thank you for coming by, and don't forget to take care of the waitressess and bartenders,  they took care of you.  Good night

Saying that wasn't even a question, it just was something we ALWAYS did at least at the end of a night.  Assuming during break, or break song we could sneak in "AND please don't forget to tip the waitresses and bartender", we would but it shouldn't IMHO become over-kill or stated every 1/2 hour because that appears greedy, and makes people feel uncomfortable. It often subtly adds inuendo that you too might want a tip, which in my case I did.
