Was this piano thing electric with an AC cord or batteries?

I think it's the one I just linked... the one Steven said. Atleast, it was VERY close to it. And it was electric, best I recall. Criminy, don't ask for details... I was pretty young when we had that thing. I do recall being told to "turn it off" when it was bedtime, Lol, I played around on it a lot. I betcha I could still plunk out Little Willie, .

I remember singing Billy Boy as a kid too.  Don't know the Willie song though.

You know the vintage going rate on that piano now Charmin ?   It's very desireable.  That is the Wurly EP-200 and was used alot by groups such as supertramp.  The EP-200 and the Fender Rhodes were the Electric Piano sound of the 70's.

I dunno... it seems like that piano, but it almost seems like the one we had was thinner. It was just dark brown wood, I don't recall any extra knobs on it, the stand was just a simple stand on 4 legs with a sheet music holder and a little open drawer in front for putting papers in, and the name was square in the middle on front (right above the keys, not on top) and written in gold colored lettering..... but the exact name, I can't recall.

And, I'm sure it was a cheapy thing- knowing my dad, he got it at an auction or other type sale. I don't know WHY he brought it home, actually, neither of them ever played the piano whatsoever. He wouldn't have invested much $$ into something like a piano, especially since none of us played (or aspired to play) one. So it must have just been something he found somewhere at a sale. (kinda like the Organ I have in my music room NOW, he found it at an Estate sale last summer and insisted I needed it to add to my music room)  LOL And I still can't play one...

Haha, Billy Boy is an oldie for sure. Mom says it was one of my grandma & grandpa's favorite songs, and that's why they taught it to us... to sing for them. A big show was always put on when the grandparents came out to visit yanno:) Helped put stars in my eyes tho, hahaha.

We had a few pedal cars when our first son was pretty small, ones we had picked up here and there. (not new... old ones) When I see those things for sale now, it makes me cringe to think what his may have been worth. When we moved from California to Oregon, we got rid of so much stuff that wasn't meaningful enough to haul. (and... outdoor baby toys are always easy to re-buy) Wish I still had them, I'd have passed them on to Tucker, they'd be of a lot more value now I imagine. (and I probably sold them for a couple bucks at a garage sale) Lol

Steven, I think you're looking too large here. I'm sure mine was a child's instrument only- though I know it wasn't a "toy"- I was made to take good care of it. It fully played, it wasn't one of those buy it, stick batteries in, and perhaps one or two keys will twang in tune. But I could CARRY it myself... I often took it upstairs/downstairs. But it was wooden, that I know cause I etched something in back of it with my pocketknife. (claiming it, I guess)  LOL I do remember that. But I think it must have been smaller scale than the links you've given.

And again, it would not have been anything pricey at the time. Not unless dad ran across a really rare steal... not being a fiddle, acoustic guitar, banjo, mandolin, or something we'd get actual use out of, he would not have spent the money. (seriously)

Ah, but dang it all, curiosity wont let me quit!!

Still googling around. This one, though I'm sure it's not the brand, LOOKS like the one we had. About the same size, and the same exact coloring. I made a mistake earlier though in saying it didn't have the knobs and such... thinking back more closely, yes it did. Seems I played with a rythm behind my piano playing. (ha.. playing is much too strong a word, but ya know what I mean) This one looks a lot like it. I just clicked on about every pic that even resembled it, and this is a pretty close match. (though I think this may be a newer model, it may give you some idea as to the looks of it) It very well could be the first one you linked. Gosh, now I'm gonna go digging through mom's old photos- I'm sure somewhere in there we've got a photo or two of it being played. Bit it looked quite a lot like this, and sat on a flat top table thingee that had 4 straight legs with gold trim around the bottom of them. (the dumb stuff you remember, haha, but I recall stubbing my toes on one- and then when it broke)

Nope, nope..... I'm going back to my original thought. It was NOT that kind. I'm recalling a small upright keyboard/organ type thing we had (mom still has it) that had the drum rhythms and the bass pedals. This one..... must have been something akin to that yellow one I linked above.  

Or... maybe, perhaps.... I'm so freakin' tired I dreamed it all, and never had one, and don't even know those songs?

The difference is "Context" regarding the application of the term "pro" as you stated.   If pro is short for "Profession" in such a context money is usually implied.  Yet I view pro as a synonymn for "skill" within ones craft..  Professionals can exist in bands, and in Karaoke assuming they are professional singers...  That was my point

The [highlight=crimson]perceived[/highlight] difference between pro and amateur is often one of context. There are a number of karaoke singers that were they to appear with a band would have people raving. (Not that I am one of them.) There are some band singers who have people rave about their talent who wouldn't excite more than just the passing interest in a karaoke context.

And it is the more so the shorter the exposure. Recently an experiment was done, where Joshua Bell, one of the world's great violinists, was placed outside a Washington D.C. metro station. He played there for rush-hour crowds, just as many a busker has been known to do. An article was written about the results:

The results were interesting to say the least

Perceived context, "time and a place for everything", "subjective aesthetic preferences as they relate to mood",  it's really all the same thing.  No matter how much I like Pizza when I'm hungry, if I'm upset, nauseated with a high fever and bloated, the thought of pizza will make me feel sicker.  Not all environments are conducive for us participating in what we might otherwise participate in. Friday afternoon if people are aggitated with other things on their mind, and stuck and angry in rush hour traffic, they aren't going to be as receptive to events that they will deliberately be going to view in 4 hours when their mind is less stormy..

In this sense, and as a musician, a good singer to me,  is a good singer PERIOD !  Whether I am bitchy, or in the mood for listening to a good musician, it doesn't matter,  I can spot a skilled artist despite mood assuming the skill is in an area I can understand and appreciate..  Assuming I like a style, I'll just be ticked off that the person is singing Boston songs in the middle of a graveyard while I'm already 10 minutes late for a meeting and can't stay and listen..
