Hello,
I want to know which is a good set of speakers for karaoke system to start out with. I have about 200-300 dollars limit. I want those big tower speakers. Not toooo big. I heard that using home theatre speakers is not recommended, is that right? Also if u could link me to the set that u would recommend i would be very appreciate it. Thank you.

What is your amp power rating like? The speaker you buy need to match the power rating of your amp; unless you are thinking of an active speakers.

'Big tower speakers'?  Lots to consider, your power amp & the rating of the speakers in question.  You want ther amps power rating to match the speakers 'program' rating.

Oh i have an Onkyo AV receiver, i think it does 100W, 5 channels.

I would recommend not using your home stereo, not designed for live vocals.

I don't think you will find anything in a tower.

If you insist on using your receiver -- as I did for a year -- you can try the MTX TP112. They have binding posts as well as 1/4" jacks, and mate well to a 120w/channel receiver. They fit your budget -- you can get them as low as $99 apiece. The MTX speakers make reasonable small-gig vocal speakers after you are done with them, and I still use them for smaller rooms.

If your amp isn't at least 100w RMS *per channel* into 8 ohms, don't do it. Even then, don't push them by turning it up too loud.

But if you are serious about karaoke, just buy a powered mixer and some PA speakers, or some powered speakers. It will be the best move in the long run.

It's true what the others have said, you need speakers that will handle the wattage. I use Gemini's with a 15 woofer that handle 350 watts and I have them hooked up to a Fender Amp/mixer of 250 watts. Everyone that hears my system claims it sounds real good. My buddy uses power JBL's, they're much heavier than my Gemini.

I use Gemini 12's myself, I love them. I have 3 sets, the oldest being my very first set I ever had, 9 years old now. I like them so much I bought 2 more sets over the years, people tell me constantly how much better my system sounds than others. I only use a Audio 2000 karaoke amp too!!! Here are the specks, I really dont think you can beat them for the money. Oh yeah, stay with 3 way speakers, most PA speakers are 2 way, spend just a little more and get the 3 ways, you get a lot more sound and they last a lot longer!!!

Sorry, but it's cart before the horse question, and it diserves the correct answer.

#1 RULE......speakers first, amps next.

First determine which PRO LEVEL speakers will serve to fill your intended venue
with quality sound, then feed them properly with required amps...The amps then need a pro level audio source like that of any pro level mixer.

No short cuts allowed.

No home stereo stuff allowed.

It's already bad nuff that us karaoke guys have to adapt live pro level stage gear, but it's a deep step backwards to attempt to use home audio in it's place.
