So, I decided a few months back to take some time off the computer.. Just long enough to get my sorry @$$ into what I thought would be a several hour project.. While I love hanging wall shelves, and have most of my studio gear on rails and arms attached to wall studs, this hanging mirror crap can really be a pain in the butt... So I hung about 7 mirrors at 3.5 inch intervals but that just started the problem.. Reason being, as soon as I saw the wall with mirror, I realized I had to relocate the babygrand piano to the otherside of the room since it's got to go with the friggin mirrors, which of course meant I had to move EVERYTHING in that friggin room, rewire the whole surround sound stereo system, speakers, PA... yadda yadda... So that was a couple months back.. Naturally I need to recooperate for a few decade, so I'll just yack in here..
Anyway, this is part of the studio (Keyboard and drum area) that I don't do squat in these days. Figured since I needed to take a photo of my helicopter for Ollie, I'd just take two photographs, and show the studio room as well.
See the baffle inside the Pearl Bass drum ? That's a vintage unwashed pillow ! Probably 40 years old and full of slobber and memories !!!!

I'm a painting fool this year. I've got the hallway, living room and foyer done. My next project is the down stairs. I'm trying something different. It is a large room. I originally painted it off white because it was that old dark brown paneling. That really brightened the room up. Now I'm going to fill all the paneling lines with compound and paint it a copper orange color. A bit ambitious I know, but I think it will look good.

I've got to be in a certain mindset to paint (which I seldom am in), because trim, cutting (not to mention those of us that have popcorn patch and similar textured ceilings) is a byotch, as is the moving and protecting of everything beneath and around (splatter).. Yet it's a necessary evil you don't hear many talk and brag about when the time comes (which is pretty often).. I've done alot with mirrors.. I'll post a few more shots (now that I have a halfway decent camera).. Those with a knack to do nice trimwork (not to mention patience) really have done gorgeous jobs of detailing with multiple color schemes (which I've always liked, yet don't have an eye for matching -regarding painting-)
Oh yeah, and in galley type kitchens with loads of cabinets you need to use masking tape on all the cabinet edges, etc.
It's no wonder painters get decent money, I'd go crazy painting day after day with my wondering mind that can find itself in nasty places.

Awesome looking room Steven... A person could feel nice n' comfie playing music there, it looks very homey. You can come redecorate my place too if you wanna:)
The plants and mirrors add a nice touch. Word of advice from a wise person with experience in this area tho.... don't overwater them plants. (the leaves tend to fall off) LOL

Quote: don't overwater them plants. (the leaves tend to fall off) Which I do ! Thing is, I have AC running constantly (along with dehumidifiers) but you are absolutely correct. The number 1 killer of houseplants IS over-watering. Being compulsive, I do get carried away... Seems as tho my idea of watering means only a small radius of carpeting around the drain-tray should be wet :( Were you able to rejeuvenate the bonsai Charmin ? Quote: Awesome looking room Steven... It's been described as a candy store for musicians The guitars are where I can fit them which is closets, under the bed, downstairs with tha Marshall and Ampeg and Altec stuff (and loads of other stuff) Horns and violins are on top of the clothing closet yadda yadda... If there's ever a fire here, I've lost about everything material I have etc..
This is the opposite wall but the couch of course isn't centered .. I think it was a time I decided to vacuum last month.. I momentous ocassion since I recall getting up out've this computer chair ! I think I combined that with a mail run !
Opposite wall from around where that swag lamp is to the left of the couch... Wall that I showed
and this is an older shot of how I had it prior
I liked it the earlier way in terms of proximity to the toys (which is why the track lighting was mounted that way) but when I put up the mirrors I realized that the mirrors had to be behind the piano.. The synths now sit under that corner wall shelf unit (and the Piano is in the diagonal corner). You realize just rolling that big thing about 18 feet requires a full tuning afterwards :(
Anyway.. Next the Hammond B-3 setup and the mirror I have above that
(It's in the dining area where the computer is)

Quote: The plants and mirrors add a nice touch. Word of advice from a wise person with experience in this area tho.... don't overwater them plants Most of the plants are water plants, or require very little light and maintainence too btw.. makes it easier...Except for the boston ferns, but my rubber plants do quite well with western an eastern exposure and loads of tree's shading it on the outside. Quote: One time I painted for eight hours straight, but when I looked at the clock.........just a few minutes shy of an hour had gone by.......
It's hard and long work, especially when using binz or kilz to block stains, and undercoat (dangerous fumes). Latex isn't as bad but some of the other paints are pretty noxious.. Problem I have Johnny is I get lazy and try to cut corners by taking risks and NOT covering everything.. While plain stupid on my part, I have grill cloth and tolex on a few of my Amps that is a slightly different design than Marshall and Fender originally intended :( It's not easy selling a Fender Chicken-Pox reverb on Ebay !
Btw, ever see a Marshall JCM-800 2205, Chex bottom, ( I don't recall if the 4x12 cab is Checkerboard, or Basketweave design.. forgot the dif) Trace small bass rig, American Strat, Tele, Jazz Bass, and LP Custom all become "Buddy Guy" poke-a-dot specials ? (no, but it COULD happen assuming I paint)

Hi Steven must be nice to have such a green thumb ! It looks beautiful in there. Great job !! Ive got two things going right now I have the bathroom remodeling which family ( only b/c they owe me $ & I know I'll never see it so I took them up on the "I'll work it off" plan ) is doing the work for me so ya know how THAT goes Taking FOREVER ! Have everything done but the tile so have plastic over the hardyboard for now, until (hopefully) this weekend. And the other brother is pressure washing our pool/patio area...5 days later we actually got into a fist fight today when my pool cleaner came to clean the pool & I asked him to please stop pressure washing while they did their job & then he could get back to it after they left, he got pi$$y with me & there ensued alot of trash talking until I was done talking & clocked him one & it took the pool cleaner ( which is a friend of mine) to get us apart, FAMILY SUX sometimes but when their begging for $ they can be sweet as pie. The Bank Of Kelley is closed permanatly from now on believe THAT !! UGH !
WOW i feel better ! Thanks for letting me vent !!

Wow. I never got into that level of sibling rivalry with my sister. My parents would've broke both my arms assuming I even tried LMAO
My WHOLE bathroom needs to be done actually, but for some reason I'm not overly zealous to have it done. That will be a project that excedes my ability. My folks even said as a 50th birthday gift they'd pay to have my whole bathroom redone (I'm almost 52 and picked up the Kohler catalog to look at styles for the first time about 2 months ago... haven't even thought about it, so you can see it's not a big priority for me) .. Which is foolish I suppose, but for some reason the thought of having workers in here tearing out the bathtub, toilet, sink, tiles.. Just doesn't excite me... especially considering it's a small bathroom.. Having a jacuzzi put in will be nice, but for some reason I just can't get excited about new kitchens and bathrooms... Maybe guys aren't into those rooms as much, not sure (will I mean we spend time in them) but...dunno
I've done smaller plumbing jobs such as replacing the toilet flapper-tank bowl setup, replacing stems in the sinks, removing tiles around the top of the bathtub level where the wall adjoins the tub, cut out rotted sheetrock, reseated tiles, did the grout, caulk, shower doors, that type stuff but when it comes to larger plumbing and electrical jobs, I've learned to NOT attempt them... Yeah, I have the bernzo-matic torches, saws, and equipment but Garbage disposals, water heaters that need replacing... Those can be nasty jobs for the lay person... I've done room refinishing, and additions but NEVER will I attempt another electrical job again.. I've had close calls.. Some jobs just aren't forgiving.. and if the #(@$ hits the fan, you can find yourself up the creek without a paddle.. I suppose for certain stuff, it's wiser to pay and have it done by those with skill in certain areas

Not to sound like an insurance fuddy duddy, but I sure hope you have those properly endorsed onto a homeowners or renters policy. Here in Oregon, there's really no limit on musical instrument coverage under a basic policy, and I don't know the laws there, BUT, atleast put all your instrument pics and copies of receipts in a folder, and take it down and INSIST your agent keep it in your customer file. Then, if you do have a big loss, you don't have to argue it out saying "Yes, I DID own all those instruments". I've seen too many claims go wrong, cause ownership of stuff couldn't be proven after all was lost.

Quote: Silly men, and they think I over water? Yeah, but at least you can tell the difference between a living plant and an artificial plant. A neighbor of mine destroyed a computer monitor underneath a hanging artificial plant.. HAHA Quote: Not to sound like an insurance fuddy duddy, but I sure hope you have those properly endorsed onto a homeowners or renters policy. I *WISH* I could get my stuff insured under a "basic" homeowner policy.. That can't happen.. This is a HUGE sum and I'm pushed into commercial bracket (like a music store) given the dollar value. I have photo's of EVERYTHING and receipts in fire-safe boxes. Also value but still...
Last I checked, I couldn't find even an affordably practical inland marine floater policy.. Try insuring over a mil worth of items in a Condo that's value is appraised at around 100K. Insurance companies smell something funny, and try to dump you into commercial policies.. This is the problem I've found.. Most of my stuff isn't in those photos (Loads of guitars and amps, violins, horns, etc).. See, when I was young, I'd be walking around minding my own business, and musical stuff would just follow me home I have security systems, and motion detectors but still, insurance companies smell a rat... Somebody who is a professional user, and likely to take stuff out to bars on occassion, and they are correct. I do play professionally (according to THEIR definition although on VERY rare occassion)..
Something interesting about these policies too Charmin.. Guitarists have been dropped from home owners policies (around here) (on floaters for guitars) only JUST for getting caught sitting in playing keyboards someplace, finicky companies.. I have NO idea why, and how this works, but Insurance companies are in business to make money by those that never file claims, and my inventory throws up a red flag.
This is what scares the xit out've me... 10 years ago a new neighbor upstairs like an idiot started the fireplace without opening the flu... Fire dept came and I had to run out... If you need to go in and extinguish anything please don't use water, but instead dry chemical if you can... ANyway, turned out to be just smoke

Have you taken the tree to a nursery ? You MUST do that !!! If a pet is sick it needs a vet, if a person is sick they need to stay far away from docs, and if a plant is sick it needs a nursery ! Good rules of thumb

I need to look into insurance policies today once again, there must be something out there... I can't continue taking such chances.. Either that or pick up a policy comparable to what I had prior to 4 years back... take out limited floaters just to have some degree of coverage over and above basic homeowners for fire damage etc

Well, I wouldn't wish to compete with G. Gruhn.
Before my times up I really want to visit Nashville ! Never been there, and without ever having been to Nashville, Chicago, or so many other places I'm ashamed to consider myself a blues genre guitarist. I've read quite a few of Gruhns articles, and he has my respect. He's done in his life what I could only dream of doing.
