So we have a covered (screened in) pool area, which has an awning over a bit of it too & are looking into getting an outdoor system Ive looked around a little & have found great outdoor speakers but not a receiver like am/fm cd except for the kind you would use if you had a boat to mount it in. My question is couldnt I just mount it ( the one that goes in a boat)  in a cabinet  or something ? I have no clue. Its just another " hair brained, honey do" idea of mine right now LOL !  Anyone here have an outdoor (weatherproof) system ?

Get a good larger boombox (portable) type system that is designed for such a purpose.  Often with detachable speakers !  They are fairly costly, but some of the better companies make excellent systems that are contained in a sturdy housing.

Something along these lines.  Many companies make larger decent systems.

You might even take a look at the newer design Sony, and Bose "Wave" type systems on the market !   Great bass response !

I seriously doubt that you will find a system with many contained components that is actually completely "weatherproof".  My guess would be that given the features of a full-fledged versatile stereo system with decent tuner, bass ported, CD format, and many inputs for other attachable features "quite weatherproof" just is not practical or affordable for a system that offers you versatility, power etc.

Get a larger portable system !    Don't leave it "outdoors".  There's no need today to leave a system outdoors with nicer smaller portable systems self-contained systems that allow for additional speakers, detachable speakers, etc !

Other options of course are outdoor speakers, wireless speakers (which I've never been overly fond of)

Hey Steven, Wasnt ignoring your reply about the system but had to put THAT "luxury" on hold my shower tiles decided they wanted to fall off & one by one they did. Sooo gotta pay for tile work & decided to get a new bathtub while we had the tile down & soo weve been engulfed in that project so much that we dont have the time or $ to do anything else...BUT... Im thinking about just buying a boat am/fm cd with the casing to put it in and running the waterproof speakers around the pool. Dont know how that will pan out but gotta wait till we can really sit down & think about it. OR get that XM stuff ( dont know alot about that either) The actual reciever will be under the awning so not too much weather can get into it as long as I have a covering or casing. In the meantime we're using a boombox. I just would like something a bit more appealing for entertaining. Thanks for your reply :)

I've had the same probs,  and given the crappy construction behind the tiles when this happens around the tub, it's a major sheetrocking type renovation.  Stuff guts out.
