Always pays to bring your own pen when going shopping, rather than using a store pen. Viruses can easily survive hours on the end of a pen, and are also transmitted that way. Next trip to a pharmacy or signing at a cash register, BYOP !
{Heard it on the John Tesh show just now}

Isn't it the reason why people wash their hands and use spoon to eat? LMAO

Quote: Isn't it the reason why people wash their hands
People in retail, that work cash registers shouldn't be serving foods without washing their hands after handling money, and exchanging many other type items back and forth, yet very few adhere to health laws. In fact I know of no place around me where I've seen people wash their hands after handling money before they serve food to a customer. By law they SHOULD, true, but few follow these laws. even though there are barrier laws. Most in food retail also work when they are ill.
It's the customer that needs to be aware of what is, and try to stay healthy accordingly. Look at bar environments for instance. I'm surprised those that go to bars regularly stay as healthy as they do !

If a pen is a 'good' source of bacteria and virus then think!...... those coins and dollar bills are even bigger culprit. How many hands handle those bills? That is the reason the Surgeon General encourage people to use credit cards and want to completly eliment the greenback.

You are absolutely correct Jian. Money is known to be a culprit. Likely the worst.

Has it been proven how long a virus can stay alive on any given surface? I've always wondered this.

Yes, But viruses mutate (or change) too. Often becoming even tougher little buggers. Problem is they can be VERY adaptable

Those can be potentially deadly carriers. If you suspect one's in your mailbox DO NOT open the mailbox. Stay a reasonable distance, and call the police !
But it's true, those of course carry all sorts of nasty little critters too ! Always wear a mask, and use a sterilized pair of gloves when touching incoming mail !

Absolutely right, mail also is very dangerous, I used to treat all my mail with fire to sterilize it......ran into a couple of problems though....hmmm

Good points. Another reason I use Lysol spray on the mics each night. AND why if and when I sing, I have my own. I still use songs slips and have to remind myself about that possibility also.

I live in San Francisco and have to cross toll bridges any time I go across the golden gate or the bay bridge. I never thought about how NASTY money really is- until then. The workers on the tolls wear white surgical gloves to collect money and Oh MY GOD!!! Their gloves are just GROSS! I asked one of them how often they changed gloves and she said "every shift" Those gloves looked like they had been working on their car engine and all from paper money..YUCK.
And regarding the lysol spray at shows- When I used to run shows I was sick all the time until I made my boss get me a mic to use for my own personal one. I never let anyone at a show use it and the unexplained illnesses went away. I take those little travel size disinfectant sprays with me when I go karaoking now. Some people get offended when I grab the mic and spray it. One even said "What do you think we have cooties or something?" I said "Yes...cooties, strep throat, bronchitis, the flu and any number of other airborne evils that can knock me out of work for a few weeks." People don't think about it but for most people - once you get past the stage where you're running a fever and feel like you're dying- you can go back to work. For a singer...you have to wait until you get past all the phlem and stuffiness too. Even then your don't have your normal range and control. The last time I got sick it knocked me out of work for 6 weeks! Good thing my husband has a day job!

Yep, If I were a professional singer I'd cetainly not feel comfortable sharing a microphone in a KJ type setting. Upper respiratory always is affected, and that lingers.
Regarding cootie shots. They do work but take about 45 years. I got mine 45 years ago in Kindergarten and finally girls don't bother with me !

You can cut the head off a Rattler BUT...
Beheaded Snake Sends Man to Hospital
AP

PROSSER, Wash. (Aug. 9) -- Turns out, even beheaded rattlesnakes can be dangerous. That's what 53-year-old Danny Anderson learned as he was feeding his horses Monday night, when a 5-foot rattler slithered onto his central Washington property, about 50 miles southeast of Yakima.
Anderson and his 27-year-old son, Benjamin, pinned the snake with an irrigation pipe and cut off its head with a shovel. A few more strikes to the head left it sitting under a pickup truck.
"When I reached down to pick up the head, it raised around and did a backflip almost, and bit my finger," Anderson said. "I had to shake my hand real hard to get it to let loose."
His wife insisted they go to the hospital, and by the time they arrived at Prosser Memorial Hospital 10 minutes later, Anderson's tongue was swollen and the venom was spreading. He then was taken by ambulance 30 miles to a Richland hospital to get the full series of six shots he needed.
The snake head ended up in the bed of his pickup, and Anderson landed in the hospital until Wednesday afternoon.
Mike Livingston, a Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife biologist, said the area where the Anderson's live is near prime snake habitat. But he said he had never heard of anyone being bit by a decapitated snake before.
"That's really surprising but that's an important thing to tell people," he said. "It may have been just a reflex on the part of the snake."
If another rattlesnake comes along, Anderson said he'll likely try to kill it again, but said he'll grab a shovel and bury it right there.
"It still gives me the creeps to think that son-of-a-gun could do that," he said.
