I know this subject has been touched on before. (seems I recall Steven did a "what's in a name" thread... )
But, maybe I'm just over curious. When I see a new name pop up that I've never seen before, I click it to look at the profile and see the date they joined, and if they've posted. (if they have, I go read thier posts) If they have pics in the gallery, nothing in the world could stop me from looking at them.
I guess I judge a book by it's cover. I form an opinion as soon as I read the username... and then get curious to see if I'm right. I think I have an idea as to their personality, what type music they may sing, and what threads they'll hang out in. (usually... unless it's a NAME name... like Steven Kaplan, haha... sorry buddy, just using you as an example) But those kinds of names you can't judge.
What bugs me is when these people don't say anything in the threads- AT ALL- and don't sub songs. Then I have to go around wondering. I wish Phill would make it where you have to say something within... say, 24 hours of joining.... or you get deleted. Think he'd do that? Just to appease my curious nature?
Shame on me, but I'm gonna name drop. (spank me if I'm out of line, but I'm not saying anything BAD... )
Tinkermom- When I first saw the name, I thought, oh heck- she's gonna be a fun, spunky personality and will add some sparkle to the threads. (I was SO right)
Bigdog- I coulda told ya he'd have had the "do as I say cause I'm right"... attitude- it's all in the name. (and gosh, but I miss him sometimes)
Foxe- Well, I've known that gal a while, but reading the name implies a hot mamma... and.... have ya looked at her pic and heard her sing? Yowza;)
BlueStainedShoes- People would think either: A- I drink alot of fluids with heavy FD&C Blue #3 in them and have a bladder control issue or B- I would be the kind to run around babbling about guitars, banjos, mandolin's and fiddles and such. (and I am definately one of those choices...)
Odie: Most definately an animal person, or just REALLY liked the Garfield show.
Babs: Reading this name, you'd think... Oh no, a female version of Steven Kaplan. (hahaha... Babs...) But the name does imply someone who can babble, and well, she can... when the mood strikes her.
Knightshow: I instantly thought "here's a guy you'd see singing karaoke in a batsuit". Lmao.... just kidding.
Fiery: Even before she shortened it from Fierynette.. yep, I knew we were getting a hot lil' redhead and figured she'd be able to rock it out with finesse.
GiGi: I was way off base on this one. I figured it was a real life nicname and she adopted it for here too. ( I had NO idea, until quite a while later when she enlightened us in a thread... that it was referring to cup size)
hamsamich: This one threw me off too. But blame that partly on the silly avatar pic... his gallery pics paint QUITE a different fella than what I had him tabbed as. (which was a Kramer from Seinfeld type)
(now on to some of my curiosities...)
The Tick: Upon seeing that name, I immediately thought of the country song by Brad Paisley. And I'm thinking... here's a guy I'd either really like to meet... or would be scared of stalking me. (maybe both) But that person doesn't talk, so I can't tell if I'm right or not. But I figured it must surely be a guy, a bit redneckish, maybe a Keith sort of persona. Just as long as this person don't call me sweetcheeks... it's all good.
Sing A Song: Now, I've tagged this person a few times. I thought for sure he/she would be a regular subber in the showcase. But nope- & they don't talk either. And I'm getting-very-impatient with them!!
The lists could go on and on, but who has the time?
Am I the only one who wastes my time trying to dissect personalities on this website? (Do you think perhaps my stalking them has scared a few of them away?)
I guess I just can't help but wonder WHAT makes a person choose a certain username, then I have to set off on a grand (though silent... until now) mission to find out.
I'm just bored today. I have one of those lovely flu's and had to stay home so I didn't puke all over my boss:) And now I've slept too much and needed something to talk about.
If any of you are offended by something I wrote (bite me) Nah, just kidding, say so and I'll take your name out;) I'm just babbling....

I got hamsamich as a child would say Ham Sandwich. Could be a nick his mom gave him from when he was a kid trying to say ham sandwich or a kid of his own
maybe?

Hell, I STILL say "sammich", .
I really think it was the silly pic of the (i think) zoolander character he had for an avatar. It made me think of a goofy comedy type guy, kinda geeky, but still a bunch of fun. The kind who'd duet off key to "love shack" and "summer nights".
(defo wasn't thinking of the muscled up outdoorsy fella he turned out to be)
And I hope I don't embarass him, poor guy, I'm just being frank. His name & avatar had thrown me in a different direction.
But your theory could be right... perhaps he has a young child and it was an endearment for that, I dunno.

Yeah, I know it's goofy, but I was afraid if I used my actual name I'd get stalked
The thread I created Charmin is speaking of I believe was entitled "Who is this Poseur", and it's still around someplace... I looked up "Kappy" on the Internet, and it turned out I was a British Ambulance Co for Pets. Milo, was named after the Milo Foundation which is a Pet Shelter, Karyoker is Polish for old man with few rice left in the poo poo platter, etc.

Ah, you're right.. I do recall that thread & it's nature now.
I even googled my name because of it. (like I would be *surprised* at what I'd find, Lol)
Can you believe there is a toilet tissue product with MY name on it?
I did find out there is a pretty famous racehorse named Charmin too.

The more obscure SN's bring you directly to Karaoke Scene when entered into a search engine. Actually I believe entering Matt's Knightshow refers you to his Website. Depending on the Search Engine. KS is turned up for high visibility so quite a few nicks entered in search engines take you directly to posts often dated way back !

Actually, I am. For years my email addy and my nic was "BluSuedeShuz"..... then I found CyberGrass and a couple other bluegrass websites and thought of this name. It was spurred by my fondness for Elvis anyhow.... :D But since I don't go 'round singing Elvis songs (usually anyways) I figured this one fit me better
@ Jian. I saw a new one pop up here yesterday after I made this thread, and almost came in here and added it to the list..... something along the lines of what you have written;)

hey yall, just got done hiking the ADKs then doing the NYC thing, havent been on the compu for a while..... my nickname was given to me after I had been on my fast attack sub for a few months. during my qual phase I asked too many questions, so someone finally said "you'ld know that if it was up your (@$%!) eating a ham sandwich". It kept getting shorter and shorter until it became a nickname. As for zoolander, I just love silly crap like that!

Thanks for solving the mystery Jim.

Well, the Odie name all started back last year when Charmin and the other Canby people (I guess that's just me LOL ) had to change our names and go "undercover". Odie was my favorite cat that had been named by my stepkids a long time ago. So I picked Odie as a new username. I had just been using Don Weiss. Actually, I have never seen the Garfield comics or show and didn't even know that the popular cartoon Odie was really a dog. My ex recently told me that Odie the cat died last May at age 17 But he'll live on as an avatar on KS I guess.
