I was wondering if anyone knows of what CD/DVD burners work on CD+g's. I have two Plextor's that work fine, but the new Plextor's don't advertice that they can do CDG's. What other manufactor's out there support this format? I've gone to the different web sites for the software producers, MTU, Karaokeware, and Tricersoft, but they only show old models.

Thanks

goldenhawk dot com

Also, try powerkaraoke dot com ... they advertize that they can use most ANY burner on a desktop, and about half of the ones in laptops.

I know most plextor's work. The Lite-on ones as well...

Not all Plextors work - especially the newer models.  I have a LiteOn in my show computer that I got from WalMart that works perfect.

It depends alot on the program as well.  I have a hp dvd writer that is not regognized by anything BUT MTU Microstudio to be able to read/write cdg.  It works great with that program only (for cdg).

Lonny,

The Plextor 800A that I listed above is on the GoldenHawk list.

That was more directed at the 'Stick with Plextor' comment, not all of them nowdays work with cdgs, I forget where I read it but they were discontinuing cdg support on most of their newer models.
LiteOn burners was actually made from ex Plextor execs/creators that moved on over to there or so rumor has stated.

I've never made a bad disk on a plextor...my LiteOn makes coasters all the time. :D

I like to stick with the stuff i've had success with. Plextors are bullet proof as far as I'm concerned.

Just a preference. There are a lot of the new Plextors that still do CD+G. They just don't advertise it. There are a few that don't work. If you look at the compatability list, you can find the ones that do.

Plextors are a mixed bag. Some of the new one will do CD+G and some won't. I go to my local Fry's Electronics and look at the box before I buy to make sure the CD+Gs are supported.

I have 3 of them currently that works for me, one is Plextor, one is an older Yamaha and one is newest LG. The Yamaha and LG are both external USB units. All of them work flawlessly. I lost only like 2 discs during about 400 plus discs I have burned on them combined.

I agree - I have 2 different Plextors. One is literally a piece of junk and the other is wonderful. I'd have to look at the model numbers to tell you which is which. It was confusing when I bought my first one that is why I ended up with 2.

As Knightshow said earlier, it is very easy to find out which Plextors do CD+G.

Go to goldenhawk dot com and look at compatability.

The Plextor 800A that I listed earlier will do it all and is shown on the CD+G compatability list.

Same with the newer version of MTU Microstudio.

First of all, all the DVD burner will burn CDs. Now days, it's easier to find DVD burners than just a pure CD burners so you may want to look for it.

You use CD-R discs to burn the CD+G discs. The unit you have listed above does not have CD+G as native format it supports. However, some software may support this drive. Just check the list others have suggested and see if it's on the list.

Eben I have looked at all of the CD/DVD burners on tiger direct and newegg and have found none that list CD+G as a supported format.  And Goldenhawk dot com only listed a few drives as capable.  I am considering the prokaraoke software that matt listed and it claims it works with most CD/DVD burners.  Does anyone have expierence with this program.  Does it do what it claims.

punchy, you should be fine with any modern DVD burner, providing you have software that will burn CD+Gs. We recommend Plextors, Pioneers, or LiteOns. I would rather keep away from HPs and Sonys, as from time to time when we get error reports from users, those are most common problem makers.

CD+G support is a hardware-level CD+G encoding and decoding. You do not need it if you use dedicated CD+G burning software (like our Power CD+G Burner). Recently only Plextor supported CD+G, but they were on the way to drop the support.

I wrote to Plextor, Samsung, Liteon and Pioneer. So far liteon wrote back and they said that all their burners will play CD+G's, but will not record them. I do have a lite-on on one of my computers and I use MTU's program and it records CDG's with no problems, it also records to the computer with my other program from Karaokeware.  I guess it's a matter of luck cause I just finished installing a KJ program on my friends computer and it would not play CDG's. Her computer is a new Acer Desk top from Best Buys with Windows Vista and it has a Hitachi/Samsung burner/player. I took my liteon and put it in hers and it worked fine with karaokeware's Compuhost.
