The topic name kinda confuses me as I run two different programs for karaoke and DJ music.
For Karaoke I use RoxBox and winamp.  For DJ I run a third instance of winamp.  I do this because I like to be able to control all players from the same screen. While I can run filler music with RoxBox's second player, I have to change views to control it (make subtile changes to the song que so that the music mixes well.
It really doesn't matter what your control screen looks like as that is behind the scenes stuff.  What is important is what the audience sees on the tv screen and hears from your sound system.   I use every inch of my main monitor for controlling both programs.  www.kjamp.com is the website to get roxbox.

I use a second installed winamp for player 2 in roxbox. It is controlled by rox and uses the auto fades. On it is the crossfader for no gaps. (using the crossfader on player 1 you can eliminate the the long intros or outros like with SC) I have several playlists for it and can shift genres or decade or mood in seconds. for DJ or fill.

Ocassionally we use a 3rd winamp using the onboard sound and a separate stereo channel on the mixer for effects. One example is at outdoor gigs we do a 747 flyover..

I run MTU Hoster for karaoke.
OTS DJ for my dj.  Nice thing about this program is it does a once of on each song, scanning for the actual music beginning & ending & automatically sets the start & fade out times of each song literally making it sound like there is someone professionally mixing.

I use PCDJ RED VRM with the KJ plugin.
Like many programs the DJ program is simple to use and will mix back and forth automatically for you.  The KJ program is also easy to use and all three ( kj plus 2 dj players ) are all on the SAME screen.  Includes a rotation screen for keeping track of upcoming singers etc. - The software uses mp3, wav, mp3+g and also zipped files. - Its what I use - Not better than the other suggestions ....just different !

Download some trial versions and decide which one YOU prefer !!

I agree with Lonman.  I use MTU software for everything.  MTU has free demos for  products too.  Check them out and find out what works best for you.  All depends on the users comfort level.

Interesting point I found out a few minutes ago...MTU won't accept debit card's. I tried to order Hoster, and was told it didn't accept "that type" card. I could understand if it had tried to debit and the funds weren't available, but it never got that far. Never had a problem using my Mastercard debit card till now. :(

I cannot find a number or even a email address to contact MTU. Maybe I've overlooked it. It's almost as if they have purposely made it difficult to contact them directly. I'm having a difficult week in general...so it's probably just me!

Was gonna wait untill Hoster came out with their rotation management but have found a better solution in my mind that makes it so I don't even have to convert my files.  Tricerasoft has a new program out called JustKaraoke.  it allows you to enter as many songs for each singer and keeps a rotation for you. They are also the only other standalone software that does well with multiplex songs and has a feature I don't think Hoster will ever have, singer history.

actually, MTU recommends NOT to email them, but instead to go to their forum and talk to them there.

I've already been thru every door on the website, and couldn't find a tel number or any direct email address. I finally just posted a question on the MTU forum.

Well, 2 days an no response from MTU.com support ticket about the debit card question

EDITED: I did receive a response this evening on my support ticket on this issue. They suspect maybe a problem in the card processing portion of the website, and suggested I try again. I was told to reopen my ticket if it failed again.
