Lonny,

That system is cool. I hope you don't have to haul all that stuff every night tho. If I had one steady gig I could deal with it, but I been downsizing so my old body can take it...if you know what I mean. I'm sort of on this path to "essentials only", or how can I get the best sound out of the least amount of equipment.

No it's all stationary, but are in racks if ever need to be pulled out (God forbid   ).  I would never rack everything together, this is where I see people making their biggest mistake.  Amps in one rack (heavy enough with 4 amps, don't need anything else in it).  Effects in one rack, players in their own - although if I went mobile with it, I would probably try & make that rack smaller.  I would need to get a coffin for my discs - even though i'm computerized, they go to every show simply for proof & back up purposes.

When I had & used my mobile system, it actually had more stuff - ran bands with it too but made a damn fine karaoke system, but no place would pay because I didn't have a huge selection like my other system & I wouldn't copy discs or the computer for that system - even though we turned the till around from $100 per night to over $1000.  When they refused to pay me my full pay, I quit.  They got some half (@$%&#!) in there with a huge illegal library that WOULD do it for peanuts.  Unfortunately, I took all my crowd back to my main club.  Went in there a couple weeks later it was the kj, the bartender & 4 people sitting at the bar - me included.
BUT that's a completely nother rant.
I finally sold part of that system off to a band & the other part to a recording studio.

Yeah that is one of my wishes that I could change.  When I got my system it was in two rack  a 10space for the amp and a 20 space for the effects and player.  The 20 space was on wheels and logging the amp one around was a nightmare.  What I really didn't like about it was the fact that the players were too close to the ground and couldn't get the up far enough to make them usuable.  I've since switched up and have the players in the small rack and the amps/effects in the other.  What is need is to be able to split them up.  Maybe in the future.  I would like to add another amp and use my monitors.  Right now they're unused.......constantly looking for a better options.  It's not where I want it to be yet!

Oh, and on the topic of thread.  I use a alesis miniverb 4 on the vocals...

I like what Lonman has done there.  I see many of the same idea in my set up.  I'm pry a step down from what he has going on.  I don't use monitors yet.  I'll have to get a pic up here to show....

Lonman, I'm curious why you use the 482 Sonic Maximizer instead of the 882. Can you run a balanced signal through the 482?

Because that's what I had, it was actually used for my guitar processor before it went into this rack.  It's connected through the main inserts on the mixer (not inline with the amp) & is less than a 3 foot run so it really doesn't need to be balanced.  Typically you really need to go balanced is if you have alot of excess noise/hum and/or if you are using long cable runs - I would use a balanced cable with anything over a 6 foot run.

Well explained on the balanced vs non balanced on the 482 Lonman. For FX the EMX 5000 board I use has two Yamaha SPX 90's built into it, the FX are very good but somewhat limited. Would a person need more than that in the average show? I have a Lexicon MPX1 and a Roland SDE 1000 available also if needed. I like everyone else here is trying to make my system as portable as possible as my back is apparently many years older than the rest of my body.
