I'm not allowed to post in singers showcase forum. I tried my hand at a first recording with a program called Audacity. This is NOT easy!! Anyway, to the point...I cannot get the song small enough to post in showcase. 3mb limit, and song is 3.19mb...lol.

What am I missing here. Can someone see if they can make the file smaller and tell me how to do it? I posted it on my webspace here:

http://www.nehp.net/~jimw/songs/one%20m ... 20%233.mp3

Thanks.

not the wrong forum...

you can save the file at a different kbps rate... or try saving it as "mono". Both will shrink the size of the file. When you do this, resave the file so you don't overwrite your original song.

you cut off the intro and fade in and cut off the outro and fade out. That will remove about .19mb from the file.

Yeah, I usually do what Jian said, if it's just a bit that needs trimmed. Make sure the silences at the beginning- and especially at the end- are clipped off. Sometimes, if there's a long musical outro, I'll trim off a bit, and fade out the end so it has a clean ending. This usually works just fine.

I went and listened to it. You have about 6 seconds of silence at the beginning and a LOT of silence at the end. Trim that off and it should be less than 3 MB.

(by the way, great song choice... and you have a terrific voice)

And yes, learning to record in a program like Audacity... takes.... PATIENCE.  LOL

I use Cool Edit Pro, have for a coupla years, and I still curse at it now and again:)

Probably the wrong forum but.....  IS there a "FOR DUMMIES" sheet on how to record a song and post it to the singers showcase ?   I have all my mp3+g's on the PC which also has a prod audio sound card with inputs etc.

Which software is the SIMPLEST to use to record a GOOD recording ?

Matt: I think you sent me something once but I'll be damned if I can find it  :(  :(

Audacity is about the simplest to use. It has a very good tutotial/help.

For the download

I did a search and couldn't find it. I think it finally got archived. It used to be a stickied thread because so many people initially needed it... as did I! LOL!

I did the search too and can't get much; that's why I post those links.
