ok, KJs (and singers) here's your chance to come clean about something you do at your show that, you're not proud of, but you're not going to quit doing it either!
Here's mine-------
When I get new discs in, I purposely wait a week before I put them in the book if there's a song I want to sing.
I know it's horrible, but dang it! there's a couple of guys that always sing whatever I sing! I can't sing old red, the ride, easy come, easy go, and a whole list of others anywmore because i have regulars who like to sing them now that they've heard me sing them. ( i might add that i don't go out anywhere to karaoke because i kj friday and saturdays and i have a "during the week job" as week so the only time i sing is at my own show.)

[strike]I used to get kicked out've class for picking my nose and eating it. Glad I'm not in school anymore. Those damned teachers couldn't cop a "Live and Let Live" attitude. Now at least I'm left alone.[/strike]

Sorry Steve. I didn't know this was one of those "elitist" threads :( Just when I really had something to offer too !
ADDED IN:
Actually I do have something to offer after-all regarding my singing. I have really bad breath ! ![hug ](./images/smilies/emot-hug.gif)

I purposely will leave the new discs out of the books for about a week maybe two, but allow certain regulars that requested the music to have the chance to sing the songs first! The will get first hand chance to sing any new music.

see, I LOVE it when people see my new discs by going through my new pages. Back when I hosted, I'd reprint that new section as SOON as I got the discs...
I have over 16,000 songs... yes, I like to sing new stuff too... but to me, what makes a venue successful is the customers that want to sing... they pay for it with their expensive drinks, food purchases, etc...
I can find SOMETHING to sing! ![LOL LOL](./images/smilies/emot-LOL.gif)

I'm a big karaoke baby- most of you would probably hate me at your shows.
I'm constantly changing my song order and stuff like that. Cause my mood changes, or the crowd changes, or cause it's extra smoky and I want to sing the harder songs before my voice gets affected by it. (or sometimes, cause I get a bit tipsy and think I can sing A-N-Y-thing, Lol) Luckily, my KJ's let me get away with it, they're really cool people- and I don't wait until the song is started ... I tell them before my turn. (usually anyhow)
I have, on occasion, when I see a certain person in the bar whom I KNOW likes to sing a few of the songs I do... I'll rearrange my list so that I have them up first in rotation. Shame on me... But, they are there every night singing the same songs, and I'm there rarely and usually don't even put those songs up- cause I know someone else there has it on their roster. So.. if I cheat to steel the song away once in a while, I don't think it's gonna get me arrested.
(but why DO my local KJ's put up with me?) LMAO
Steve, were you wanting just the confessions related to "singing"? Or, did you want us to post the "other kind" of bar confessions here too?

This is regular customer service, My regs will turn in 6 songs and other than chitchat maybe dont talk to one another for the night. I do get annoyed at people who want turn in a slip every rotation, as far as changing the order no problem,,, Hey can I do *** next? Click Click. This can be on the way up by the time they pick up the mic its started. Even for one not on their list...This is SOP....
In between songs they can glance at the big screen and see what song they have next or how many are ahead of them. Also on the bottom it shows who is next.
Some only put in a couple of songs and dont care if they sing every rotation Others Ill go into singer history and choose one for them. As a singer for years My KJ's have put in a new song that Id never done before and surprise me. Maybe Id clobber it maybe sing it a few weeks.
We have sang together for 10-15 years.. Some of the old rules are still strictly adhered to such as fair rotation and not abusing the mics etc. And the usual crowd etiquite. If its somebobys birthday whether singer or customer they get preferential treatment (2 fers etc)
Out of towners come in and after hearing the system are anxious to sing. They come up " There aint no number in the books!!" Whats ur name? What song u want? Ok ur in Go ahead and fill out a slip. of a slip. We like all at once there is room on the back for more. My name is Ollie How ya doin? Welcome!!!
Now the rotation and slips except for newbies are taken care of for the night and we can concentrate on sound and running a show. If we are in a casual slow pace people come up and visit. If we are in a high energy fast pace they know not to bother us. We ignore them any way. LMAO
Now this is at the bar at my regular gig I cant even have one beer ![Sad :(](./images/smilies/icon_sad.gif) At an all nighter we take turns at the console and see who can stay up the longest.

I usually update my books every 2-3 months. New disks will be on the computer list, and I let people know I have them. Sometimes I have a print out. I just hate updating the books.

The only thing I can think of that I'm not proud of doing is losing my temper and saying something I wouldn't normally to a patron. I have yelled "Shut Up " at egoman in the crowd now 3 times. I think it is out of my character even to tell someone to shut up, so it bothers me. :D

Pre-arrange it with all your customers, then when he needs it give the cue on the mic & let them yell it out as a group :dancin:
Willing to bet egoman's ego will deflate a bit when 50-100 people around him are yelling shut up!

Babs LON has HIT on a GREAT idea! Ego man will avoid any situation where his "ego" gets kicked in the pants. Getting the crowd who he is trying to curry favor with to "side" with you in telling him "shut up" will send a LOUD message that he won't want repeated. If he starts to feel "unpopular" he may even go inflict himself on someone else's show. Can you say AMEN!!!! ![High 5 :hi5:](./images/smilies/emot-highfive.gif)

You seriously are annoyed by this? It's hard enough for me to decide on one song at a time, let alone think of 5 or 6 songs that I want to sing at the beginning of the night.
I guess if I did the same old songs over and over and over again it would be no big deal, but there are some of us out there who like to try different stuff, sometimes get inspired by songs other people sing, sing whatever we're in the mood for at a given moment, sing something that works well with what everyone else is singing that night or sing something to break up the monotony of what everyone is singing that night, etc.
I can see a KJ getting annoyed by a lot of different things, but somebody turning in one slip per rotation sure shouldn't be one of them!

Re Invention,
I was confused by this too. I want only one slip at a time.
It's much easier if they hand me a slip when they come up to sing.

Reread my post You come in as a stranger I have you in rotation before you even turn in a slip. I encourage you to turn in 3 0r 4 songs. You have almost a whole rotation to do this... at any time you can turn in a new song or on the way to the stage change the song or even request a new one.
Im just the opposite I wont go to a show where I have to worry about turning in slips all night. Esp 1 every song. Im in there to socialize and party not worry about whether or not I got a slip in or what Im singing next. Id rather you just put me up something Ill sing it... ![LMAO LMAO](./images/smilies/emot-LMAO.gif)

Just the opposite for me, it's sing one & bring one.
I get pissed if people put up multiple slips because then THEY get pissed when someone else puts up a song they had in their stack - well just becuase you had it in your stack doesn't mean it was reserved for you - if it isn't on top in the current round & someone else gets it in before you, you are SOL!

Darn it, who put the report post button right next to the quote button???
So I'm still not getting it. Why is it annoying to bring you a slip with a song on it, but it's not annoying to turn in a replacement song? Or not annoying to change the song that's already in? Doesn't it all amount to the same thing, which is which song you're going to be singing next in the rotation?
Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but that seems beyond silly. Just because you like to turn in all your songs at the beginning of the night doesn't mean we all like to do that.

Thats another reason I like multiple slips I can resolve these situations and have 2 or 3 rotations to work with. Most singers I know I havnt had an objection yet is have one sing it in the next rotation or second rotation. Also I can co-ordinate duets and other things. It so much easier on me and the singers and smooths out the night.
I didnt say you cant turn in every rotation but once strangers get used to my system they dont want to just the same as me or my regs..
