my setup is far too heavy each speaker is over 71lb according to my conversion chart (32.6kg) its hard enough for me to lift and carry into a gig without having to try and lift above my head onto stands. Today I purchased some ultimate telelock speaker stands so I am hoping that will help me when I am on my own
I love my powered speakers but I didnt consider the weight thing when I bought them
I will next time I upgrade

That was a big consideration for me when I upgraded over the winter. I wanted to get things down to the lightest weight and still maintain sound quality. Check out the EV speakers when your ready to upgrade. They also have a smaller 12" main set that are only about 30lbs. They sound fabulous.
I compared them to the Mackie SRM450's and JBL Eon's, and frankly there is no comparision. The EV SXa250's that I bought are a little heavier (45lbs), but I liked the punch on bass that the 15" main give.
This was a purchase that I have been totally happy with. That doesn't happen very often.

we opened at christmas time at a dine and dance gig in the afternoon both me and the other act were sound checking...they had EVs. They listened to me and made the comment that even tho I wasnt running the speakers overly loud the sound carried right to the very back of the venue with no appreciable drop off. The same could not be said of theirs...they knew it and they were worried cos they were the main act so to speak. It was in my best interest to see the night suceed cos I market the hotel we were playing in, so I let them plug into mine.
I actually didnt like the sound when I first got these speakers but we keep getting gigs from gigs and have never been busier than since we upgraded...so for now I will put up with the weight till there is no longer any book value and its time to upgrade again. Still have my original pa system...always thought I could use it for hiring out...but I am so anal about anyone touching my stuff I never got round to it...so I keep it for barn dances and the like where dust is an issue. They are passive speakers and I dont have a prob undoing the front and vacuuming them out

Yea Dennis and Morgan I dont know if you saw the photo in my first outdoor gig of the year post but Ive lightened my load over the years all flat screens. I haul the snake and cables and things in a suit case with rollers the books in 2 suit cases with rollers same with the lights.
I can stick everything in a little van and with the price of gas it pays to lighten up too..

Hmmm....Electro Voice's claim to fame is clarity and projection...I would have to say that either the rest of the system wasn't set up correctly or they didn't have very good mikes...EV is probably the most widely known, high quality, professional equipment on the market. Not only for PA sound, but the best guitar amp speakers in the world. Most professional concert systems are EV.
The reason I bought mine, is that they project. I have no trouble getting quality sound to the back of the room.

ONE,
From what I've read and seen the BOSE system is a great fit for your needs.
There was a memebr on here not too long ago that did a show by himself.
"Mr.October." and from what I remember he loved his new Bose system for all the reasons you have stated. Easy Setup - Lite Weight - Great Sound all Around the room. It is pricey like all BOSE products but worth it for THOSE applications.
And yes the BASS module is needed 1 if not 2.
Regarding format shifiting -- If you think back format shifting has been ongoing for years and will continue to get better and smaller ($$) as time goes on. It won't be long before the new digital jukeboxes you see in bars and clubs are replaced with the Latest versions of the Karaoke Station - NO KJ :( will be needed - You just put your $1 in the machine - select the song you want to sing and download it - pick up the Mic - Graphics will be shown on the monitor and TV thru out the place and you sing your song - The sound will be great spread out the venue on multiple speakers.

The karaoke pay per play has been around for a few years. However I seriously doubt that is would ever take over a kj. Who's going to mix, eq, change effects? Who's going to hype up the crowd for applause? Who's going to really WANT to sing in a bar that karaoke is NOT going on? Scenerio: bar has a karaoke jukebox no other entertainment other than the tv, maybe some darts or pool, bunch of regulars that just want to sit & drink & watch that tv or play the games, now you (no not YOU) & your girl come in, she sees the jukebox & thinks way cool puts a $5 in gets 4 songs? Thinking she's the best singer sings her a$$ off, not knowing she isn't the best, sings very off key, loud & timing off. Regulars start looking at her as if she's an idiot & what the hell is she thinking. They ask to turn the tv up because they can't hear the game they've been watching all night.
I think you can see where i'm going. Probably a little extreme, but always possible!

Lonny,
I was in Hawaii a number of years ago for the Pro Bowl (1998). In the corner of the hotel was a small bar that was probably 40 feet long by 20 feet wide. It had access from the hotel and the street. the bar and stools took up most of the space. They had "Pay For Karaoke", for a buck the bartender would cue a song from behind the bar and hand you a wireless mic. The words came up on the two TV's at either end of the bar. A bunch of people I had met while at the Pro Bowl Flea market and I and my wife sat there for 4 hours, paying $1 a song and passing the mike around.
I guess, the "right" situation it could work. This little bar didn't have enough room for a stage, or even a small KJ set-up. This little pre-computer set-up worked pretty slick, and we had a lot of fun. People started coming in off the street to hear us.

I am sure the jukebox idea doesn't work -- except in the way they do it in Asia, the karaoke box.

Yeah but Hawaii you have to pay to sing at the majority of places (not even a jukebox) pay $1 per song - these are at hosted shows btw.
Ok I can see it MAYBE working in a small bar that couldn't handle a real karaoke show, but again, if a bar is THAT small, I don't know - it wouldn't appeal to me, if I just wanted a small group, I would get my friends in my living room for what is more than likely to be a better selection and I KNOW a better sound - plus don't have to worry about driving while drinking.

Lonny,
I guess I was just trying to say that certain places it might work.
I think most people who want to sing are looking for more than that.
I have been all over Hawaii, and that was the only time I saw the pay per song thing. I have sung karaoke many places in Hawaii at conventional shows...never had to pay. Not to say that it's not there, but I haven't seen it. I don't spend much time on Oahou (SP) though.

Lionel,
I'm not real familiar with this particular unit.
How do you intend to use it/hook it up? Is this for home use?

Hi Dennis, Thanks for yor prompt response. Although this is for home use and will be connected to my Home Theatre, ocassionally I may take it to some functions and play some Karaoke. The reason why I am keen on this player is the ability to immediately direct access a track by skipping Menu's, chapters etc. This feature cuts out long periods of silence which I the case with my CAVS 203G presently. Thanks.

Others on here will disagree, but I have had good luck with VocoPro products. As a player, this looks fine. I would caution you that you would want to run your vocals through something other than your home theater system tho. The speakers in home systems are not designed for vocals, and you could damage them. There are many discussions on this on the site.
Also, running mics directly through the player usually is not the best choice. The mixers and pre-amps on the players in most cases are sub-par. Typically it would be best to run through a mixer to an amp or into a combo mixer/amp to get the best results.
