hehe you think you got it bad with the kj singing 2 in a row, try 5 or 6 even after they have a crowd get there, peeps are starting to not come because of it, now they want me to train on the equipment so that if the kj can't be there, i can do it lmao. at least i'll know to not do that when there are singers out there wanting to sing.

Bottom line...all shows/all venues are different.  YOU as a KJ/DJ/Host need to do whatever it takes to make the venue profitable and entertained.  You need to play to the crowd.  If it's a private show..that's different, you then need to do what the organizer has paid you to do.  Trust me word gets around if you do your job or you don't.  There are some nights I sing 4 or 5 times..there are some I don't sing once.  It all depends, seriously...not on my mood, but on the mood of the crowd and what is needed at the time.  This site is great to read all of this stuff about different gigs at different places.  You can really learn a lot....MrD

As a singer, I really don't mind if the KJ sings one song at the start of each rotation.  After all, go to karaoke not only to sing, but to hear others sing (ok, not the really bad ones, lol).  In most cases I find that the KJ will drop out of the rotation when it gets busy.

There was one place I went to that had the KJ equipment on a mezzanine above the bar with a guy running that and the KJ/host was on the floor level to take slips and announce singers.  Most of the time, they would also have a third person there for some reason (maybe just to operate the equipment while the other guy had his turn to sing).  So that meant that each rotation would start with the three of them each singing a song... that was a bit irksome!
