Hi!.  I'm new to Karaoke.  I've purchased a few Karaoke CD's.  Most contain songs recorded by who knows who and are sometimes hard to follow because they don't sound like the original recordings.  One CD I have contains the original artists' recordings and is much easier to follow because that's the way I learned the songs.  I'm having trouble finding CD's that contain the original artists' recordings.  Are there certain companies that sell these?  If not, which brand CD's sound most like the orginals?

Very few original artist recordings exist, the majority of karaoke music recorded is basically covers - sometimes very close to the original.
What discs (manufacturer & numbers) do you have now that you feel are good & which ones do you have that you are having problems with?

I have the Party Tyme "Country Classics 2", which is most difficult to follow.  The easiest to follow is from The Singing Machine.  I don't recall the CD title.  It is Love Ballads or something.  It has eight original recordings with lyrics and the same eight recording without lyrics.

Are there particular brands of Karaoke CD's that are closer to the originals than others?

Sound Choice is probably the best for the majority of genres.
Zoom karaoke is really good for most genres.
Chartbuster is great for country.
Pop Hits Monthly are decent.
Top Hit Monthly are decent.

The Party Tyme & Singing Machine "Motown" (since this is the only original line) that can be got at WalMart/Target/Kmart etc. are not always the greatest.  Check the side bar under advertisers & you can get most of the above named quality karaoke.

karaoke by it's very nature in the mass produced market is not the original recordings... although many speculate that should be the future of it. I mean, it makes sense... the original masters would be the easiest and best way to do them!

There was a product from overseas that was called "Original" released on VCD originally, and then remastered on DVDs... they only put out a few...

Check kjpro.com for their listings.

Other than that, the best bet is what Lonnie stated. Sometimes there's something that slips through the processes and is sold in K-mart or walmart... usually these are from overseas as well.

Jian mentions that in the East it's the standard to have karaoke done to the original music, but I couldn't give you any info on that!

There are some Artists/Bands that release their song ONLY in karaoke multiplex format; the vocal track is that of the Artist. There are some who released the album with only 5 or 6 songs and the rest of the space in the CD is for karaoke tracks of those songs.
